Bojan Miovski transfer rules put Celtic on notice as Maeda doubles down and £9m defender timeline set

Daily Record3 hours ago

Business is kicking off at Celtic Park with Brendan Rodgers not stopping with the imminent arrival of Benjamin Nygren
Celtic have been told exactly how much they will need to pay to snap up Bojan Miovski this summer.
The former Aberdeen striker has endured a disappointing spell with Girona - netting just two goals for the La Liga outfit following his £6.8million exit from Pittodrie.

His disappointing form has lead to reports in Spain suggesting he is a contender to be sold by the club as they look to balance the books in line with La Liga's strict financial rules.

AS name-checked Celtic as an interested party in the North Macedonia striker this summer with a fee in the region of £5million floated.
Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel admits the club would like to recoup what they paid for any outgoing stars - but conceded they must be "realistic" over deals for their fringe men.
He told Ara:"We have people under contract. Football isn't that easy when it comes to changes, making a player leave or another arrive.
"That's why there's a salary cap. We don't want to sell at a loss, and what we want is to sign cheaply, like the rest of the clubs.
"We've planned an idea of what we'd like to execute, but what we must be realistic and work with common sense."
That could leave suitors like Celtic to match the £6.8million forked out to their Scottish Premiership rivals last summer.

The striker has vented his frustration over his season in Spain - with Girona tumbling from surprise title contenders to relegation scrappers in the space of 12 months.
In an interview in his homeland he said: 'As a footballer, I always pick my clubs based on my style of play, and Girona was the best option for me.
"It is important to note, it was not the best financial offer I got. But, as a player, my priority is to develop my game and be at a club where I will play regularly.

'Girona played attacking football. As a striker, I thought that I should join a team that created at least six or seven clear chances for the striker to score.
"But unfortunately, that was not the case this season and it was the complete opposite compared to last.'

A defender also appears to be on the Celtic shopping list with Hayato Inamura linked with a switch - with a bid for Red Star Belgrade defender Veljko Milosavljevic rejected.
While the Serbian side are reportedly holding out for a £9million fee with PSG and Everton said to be chasing a deal, Meridian Sport claim that the club are unwilling to sell this summer and will push a deal for the 17-year-old wonderkid until the winter window.
In terms of outgoings, Daizen Maeda may be gathering interest this summer but he has already hinted he is keen to stay at Celtic Park.
And the 27-year-old has doubled down as he talked up his life in Glasgow, telling Sportiva:"I've been here for three and a half years now. I know the people around me, so I think it's a very comfortable place to live.
"I don't speak English but I feel like if I were to have everyday conversations and things like that, I'd still be okay. It's really just about communication. I'm doing my best."

Nicolas Kuhn edging closer to completing his Celtic exit as ‘Hoops in advanced transfer talks with club'

NICOLAS KUHN is reportedly edging closer to completing his Celtic exit this summer. The German winger, 25, has been attracting interest following his standout campaign both in Scotland and in the Champions League last season. 2 Nicolas Kuhn could be on his way out of Parkhead Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 He's not short of transfer options Credit: Kenny Ramsay SunSport were first to reveal Kuhn had emerged as a £15million target for RB Leipzig after he scored twice against his old club in November. He spent three years there as a youngster and could be on his way back to Germany in a big-money move. Reports out of Germany suggest talks between Celtic and RB Leipzig have been progressing over the last few days and it's the Bundesliga club who are leading the race. According to Kicker, via Bullinews, discussions between both clubs are now at an "advanced stage". Celtic paid around £3m to sign the wide-man from Rapid Vienna in January 2024 and are now in line to make a healthy profit on the 25-year-old. He still has four years left on his current deal so the Scottish champions are in no rush to sell. SunSport understands, however, that Kuhn would be interested in making a stunning return back to Leipzig. It would certainly boost his chances of earning his first senior call up for Germany after Julian Nagelsmann revealed last year that he was already on his radar. A number of other Bundesliga clubs are also monitoring the player. Kuhn also has interest down south as well as Newcastle United scouted him several times last season. Nicolas Kuhn talks to media for first time since signing for Celtic before posing for pictures with Hoops scarf They had talent spotters in the Celtic Park stands when he scored his brace against RB Leipzig a few months ago. It's believed the Premier League club are still tracking him and are weighing up a potential swoop. But they will need to act fast if they want to land him as Leipzig are wasting no time in their pursuit for the pacy wide-man. Lisbon Lion John Clark dies aged 84

Clark, who made over 300 appearances for Celtic following his debut in 1959, spent over 40 years at the Glasgow club as player, coach, assistant manager and kit man. His finest hour was in Lisbon when the Hoops became the first British club to lift the European Cup following their victory over Inter Milan. Everyone at #CelticFC is deeply saddened at the news that legendary Lisbon Lion, John Clark has passed away at the age of 84. The whole Celtic family will mourn John's loss together, supporters and colleagues alike. Rest in Peace John, You'll Never Walk Alone 🦁 — Celtic Football Club (@CelticFC) June 23, 2025 A Celtic statement read: 'Everyone at Celtic Football Club is deeply saddened at the news that legendary Lisbon Lion, John Clark has passed away at the age of 84.' The club added: 'His love for the club was a constant throughout his life and, after leaving his role with the first team, he was able to enjoy matches from the stands at Celtic Park. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the club.' Clark won four Scottish league titles, four League Cups, three Scottish Cups and one European Cup during a 13-year playing career with the Hoops before moving on to Morton in 1971. He returned to Celtic Park as coach of the reserve and youth sides before becoming former manager – and fellow Lisbon Lion – Billy McNeill's assistant, first at Aberdeen and then, in 1978, at Celtic. Clark went on to take charge of Cowdenbeath, Stranraer and Clyde before returning to Celtic Park as kit man, a role he held for nearly 20 years. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said: 'Greatness is a word people throw around, but for John Clark, it is a very fitting tribute. 'John was instrumental in delivering our greatest day ever and his achievement is forever etched in Celtic's proud history.' 'That famous day in Lisbon, which John was such an integral part of, changed our club forever. Ever since, each player who has passed through our club has stood on the shoulders of giants and John was certainly one of those giants. 'John gave his life to Celtic both as a player and on our staff in a variety of his roles and his contribution to our great club over so many decades is immeasurable.'

A likely starter when the national team begin their 2026 qualifying campaign away to Denmark in September, Doak is now back training and due to report for pre-season next month. He has not played since January due to a hamstring problem which eventually required surgery and prevented him helping Middlesbrough's promotion push whilst on loan in the English Championship. The 19-year-old is now in Portugal and posted social media footage of himself undergoing a rigorous training course with Empire Performance Elite. The routine showed him engaged in sharp movement exercises, including short sprints and shooting drills. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Doak emerged as a key player for Scotland during last year's Nations League campaign. He featured as a substitute in the first two games against Poland and Portugal but cemented a starting slot for the remaining four. He would have been involved in March's Nations League play-off against Greece had injury not struck. The former Celtic player is now preparing to report to Liverpool's Kirkby training base on Monday, 7 July, for the first day of pre-season training. Where he will be playing come the start of Scotland's World Cup qualifying ties is unclear. A number of English Premier League sides monitored him on loan at Middlesbrough and were impressed as he scored three goals and claimed seven assists in 24 appearances. The Everton manager David Moyes is one of Doak's admirers and is keen on a deal to sign him from rivals Liverpool this summer. Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest. Liverpool, Everton and the £30m transfer tag for ex-Celtic man Mo Salah's decision to extend his Liverpool contract renders the young Scotsman's chances of securing regular action in his favoured right-wing position extremely difficult this coming season. New £29.5m signing Jeremie Frimpong can also play in that role, so Doak's opportunities are likely to be limited under head coach Arne Slot. That could help Everton's chances of luring him across the city. A move for the teenager is likely in the coming weeks, even if it is another loan deal of some sort. Liverpool paid Celtic just £600,000 in training compensation when they signed Doak as a 16-year-old in 2022. Celtic are understood to have a sell-on clause in the deal, which could earn them a tidy return with Anfield officials reportedly valuing the Scot around the £30m mark. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Having recuperated under the supervision of medical staff at Kirkby in recent months, Doak is now eager to resume competitive action and be ready for next season. He needs regular games at a good level to regain his Scotland place and will be eager to help his country reach next summer's World Cup finals in USA, Canada and Mexico. He has made 10 first-team for Liverpool since arriving three years ago, most of those in cup competitions and European ties.
