What Conor Coady really thinks about Rangers transfer as target ready to show Brendan Rodgers what he passed on
Coady is a target for Rangers and has previous with Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers ahead of a reunion in Glasgow Conor Coady admitted Brendan Rodgers pushing him out on loan was a turning point in his early career – as he gears up to show his former boss the player he's turned into. The defender is a target for new Rangers boss Russell Martin who is desperately in need of defensive reinforcements before their first Champions League qualifier with Panathinaikos, which is coming up fast. News of John Souttar's surgery might have catapulted Coady to top priority status with Robin Propper, Clinton Nsiala, Ben Davies and Leon King the only central defensive options if Souttar is unavailable. If the 32-year-old does decide on a move to Ibrox then it will mean crossing paths with Celtic boss Rodgers – who coached him during his formative days at Liverpool and sent him out to gain first-team experience at Sheffield United in 2013. And speaking in 2020, the defender credited the Irishman for pushing him to leave his comfort zone. He said: "Brendan Rodgers was good to me when I was young. I had a season training with the first team at Melwood, learning off them. That was big for me, but I always knew it was tough. "I knew at some point I'd have to come away from Liverpool to really experience being a first-team player. It was the best decision I ever made, and Brendan was great for that; he pushed that to send me on loan and try to improve my game. "Liverpool were always getting better, they were always improving, and the players in my position were ridiculous. But I just wanted to play football. I knew where I was at, the type of level I was at, but I just wanted to be part of a first team, playing in games which meant something, playing against men." He ultimately never made the grade under Rodgers at Anfield, making just two appearances, and now he may be gearing up to show his former boss the player he passed on by taking the fight to him in Glasgow. Pundit Lee Hendrie meanwhile has offered an insight into where Coady's head is on the deal. He told FootballLeagueWorld: "I could see him at Ibrox, for sure. I think that he could certainly step in and do a job at Rangers. There's no doubt about that. He still offers a lot in the line of experience. "He has been limited on game time, but I think, particularly with Leicester being in the Championship, he'd be one you look at and think that he's got a bit more mileage in him to go on and kick on in the Championship. "If you're linked with Rangers, I'm sure that would certainly give him something to think about. I'd be looking at it from a Leicester point of view, thinking that he'd be one that I want to keep hold of, given some of the players that they have at the club." Who is Celtic target Nygren?
In the last week Celtic have been heavily linked with Nordsjaelland forward Benjamin Nygren, and reports this morning suggest the deal is all but Swede would be Brendan Rodgers' second signing this summer after Kieran Tierney returned to the know what they're getting with the Scotland international, but Nygren is a little more who is Nygren, and what are Celtic - potentially - getting?Primarily a right winger, 23-year-old Nygren is a versatile forward who has 35 goals in 106 appearances for the Danish Superliga career kicked off in his homeland with IFK Goteborg where he made his debut as a fresh-faced 16-year-old, and after impressing, earned a big-money move to Belgian side Genk at struggled for game time, though, and spent two seasons on loan with Dutch outfit Heerenveen before rejuvenating his career with netted six goals in his first full league campaign - where Nordsjaelland finished second behind Copenhagen - 12 in his second and 16 in his third. Not bad numbers for a wide good form earned him a first international call-up, after appearing for Sweden's youth teams, and he scored his first goal for his country in a friendly against Northern Ireland in March and his second earlier this month against his tag as a winger, he exhibited great striker's instinct for his maiden Sweden goal - a tap-in within the six-yard box - before bending in a beauty against the can sometimes be a little misleading, but a look at Nygren's ought to have Celtic fans excited.

Celtic transfer intel swarms the Hotline as Dermot Desmond deploys £50m response to Rangers takeover
The takeover, the new manager and transfer murmurs skyrocketing - but Rangers don't have Celtic worried just yet. The champions are making moves behind the scenes - and Dermot Desmond is set to give Brendan Rodgers the keys to the Parkhead coffers this summer. That is according to Martin 'Butch' Cassidy, Hamilton - who claims to be the man with the intel is leaking out of Celtic Park. He said: "I have worked in a world where wee whispers about Celtic land on my door and have then come to pass. I knew Brendan Rodgers would be the boss before it was announced two times over. "And now my source is telling me Dermot Desmond is eyeing a marquee summer. This Rangers takeover will have nothing on us and my inside man reckons we'll spend in excess of £50million. Over to you, Rangers." Transfer season is well underway - and Cyriel Dessers looks to be inching closer to the Ibrox exit door. But with AEK looking to snap up the striker for a lowball offer the door remains closed for the Nigeria international. Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton emailed: "Much has been made of the fact that Dessers finished up Scotland's top goalscorer - so for Rangers reportedly holding out for a paltry £5million is beggars belief. "It's another example of Rangers desperate for finance and they will regret not having Rangers diehard Lawrence Shankland in place for the start of the season." Nicolas Kuhn is another who could be on the move - with the Celtic winger attracting interest from RB Leipzig. Alan Flett senses a shift in Glasgow amid wheeling and dealing at Parkhead: "RB Leipzig must be desperate if they're willing to pay £15m for Kuhn. He's been playing in Scotland for 18 months and has been largely anonymous for the majority of that period. "Despite their apparent wealth, the biscuit tin mentality is alive and well at Celtic Park. It's only a matter of time before Rangers are back on top of the Scottish game." Russell Martin knows who he will face in his first competitive match as Rangers boss - with the crucial Champions League qualifiers kicking off against Panathanaikos. But some have already written off their chances of joining Europe's elite next season - with Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh commenting: "Surely Champions League is beyond Rangers this season? "They're nowhere near enough ready , and I suggest Europa League far more realistic. Defeat by Panathanaikos would see Gers given a 5 million Euro softener" And the draw sparked some Hotline sparring between regulars - with Scott Gowers clamped over a potential UEFA conspiracy. John Scott said: "Scott Gowers thinks Ranger's are mysteriously getting tough draws in Euro qualification for the Champions League. Can we smell the pungent aroma of yet another conspiracy. Not more big male coo's and dungheaps surely?" John Souttar looks set to miss the clash with the Greeks after delaying surgery to turn out for Scotland at the end of the campaign. Baffled Dr Robert S Pender said: "Did nobody tell the Rangers player who pays his wages? To delay the surgery in order to turn out for Scotland friendlies was totally unexplainable. Now the player will miss important qualifying games. I think he will eventually will move on." Hibs have drawn FC Midtjylland in their Europa League qualifiers - and the Danes have been quick to play down the threat of the Premiership side with boss Thomas Thomasberg declaring his side would reach the next round. Neil Renton, Leith said: "Midtjylland boss Thomas Thomasberg might be super confident his side will beat Hibs in the Europa League but he can't write off the Easter Road side too quickly. Fingers crossed that his comments come back to haunt him and he's humbled by the Hibees."

CELTIC CONFIDENTIAL: Why Parkhead bosses should take the money for Kuhn and run... and why Swedish replacement Nygren could be an absolute steal
If RB Leipzig start waving a £15million cheque for Nicolas Kuhn under Celtic 's noses, the champions should take it without hesitation. Good luck to the Bundesliga club if they are willing to pay that money for a winger who was once on their books and think they can coax more consistency out of him than Brendan Rodgers did.
