PM Modi inaugurates Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala

Kochi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala on Friday with the aim to boost India's maritime trade.
'Until now, 75% of the country's transshipment needs were routed through other ports in the world. India was suffering losses in revenue through it. This situation will change now. The country's money will be useful for it. The money that used to flow outside will now bring new economic opportunities for the people of Vizhinjam and Kerala,' Modi said addressing the event. He dedicated the facility, built on a public private partnership (PPP) model, to the nation.
Modi started the visit with reviewing the operations, specially the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) mother ship docked at the port, India's first dedicated transshipment port and also the first semi-automated port, located 20 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram.
Situated around 10 nautical miles from the international shipping route, Vizhinjam Port has the capacity to handle large cargo vessels and, at full capacity, will be able to manage over 5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
Modi was accompanied by Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, union ports and shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal, governor Rajendra Arlekar, union MoS for Fisheries George Kurian, Union MoS Tourism Suresh Gopi, Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, state ports minister VN Vasavan and other top central and state officials.

'This was a long dream of Kerala. That dream has been fulfilled today. Vizhinjam will become one of India's most important ports and attract global attention,' CM Vijayan said at the commissioning ceremony.
Developed by the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) in conjunction with the Kerala government and the Union government, the first phase of the project was completed at a cost of ₹8867 crore. Two-thirds of the project's cost has been borne by the Kerala government — the highest such investment by a state in a port in the country -- including for building the breakwaters, a critical part of the infrastructure that will ensure the ports operates smoothly in all kinds of weather.
Trial operations at the port began in July last year and commercial operations in December with the first mothership being invited. During the three-month trial phase, over 272 large vessels docked at the port and more than 5,50,000 containers were handled.
The Vizhinjam port is equipped with fully automated yard cranes and remotely operated ship to shore cranes for faster and safer operations. A Vessel Traffic Management System, an AI powered and home-built system which is a first in India, has also been set up at the port.

Amit Shah warns Naxals of monsoon operation, rules out talks or truce

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said Naxalites won't get rest during monsoon as operations against them will continue during rains, even as he ruled out talks and appealed to the ultras to lay down arms and join the journey of development. Since January last year, more than 400 Maoist ultras have been gunned down by security forces in separate encounters in the state, the most notable being the killing of Nambala Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju (70), the general secretary and top most operative of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in Bastar on May 21. "Every time during monsoon, Naxalites used to get rest (as swollen rivers hamper anti-Naxal operations inside dense forest). But this time, we will not let them sleep during monsoon and we will move further to achieve the target of 31/3 (2026 to eliminate Naxalism)", Shah said. He appealed to Naxals to surrender, join the journey of development and avail of the benefits of a "lucrative" surrender policy. "No need for talks. Just give up armed struggle and join the mainstream. I wholeheartedly welcome all those who have laid down arms and joined the mainstream and assure them whatever promises the Chhattisgarh government and the Centre have made to them will be fulfilled. We will try to help you even more," he added. Speaking after laying the foundation stones for the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) campus and a Central Forensic Science Lab in Chhattisgarh's Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, he said the complete implementation of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will make India's criminal justice system the most modern, speedy and scientific justice system in the world. "The country will enter into an era of more evidence-based criminal justice. After complete implementation of three criminal laws, any FIR registered in any corner of our country will ensure justice to the complainant and the victim up to the Supreme Court within 3 years. There will be no delay in justice for more than three years," he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making India a developed nation by 2047 not only focuses on innovation, infrastructure, industrial and economic progress but also ensuring timely justice and the three new laws will help in this regard, he said. "There was a time when arguments for justice were based on feelings or imagination and evidence, but I believe that where there is proof, scientific evidence, only then the accurate result comes. With the help of FSL (forensic science lab), India will be among the countries with the highest conviction rate in the world in a few years," he said. The new laws make it mandatory for the forensic science team to visit the scene of any crime in which the punishment is more than seven years, Shah said. Shah said the NFSU campus in Nava Raipur will cost Rs 145 crore and CFSL Rs 123 crore, adding these will come up in three years. Graduation from NFSU means a job guarantee and youth of Chhattisgarh must grab this great opportunity, he added. "In the coming years, 32000 forensic experts will emerge every year and our requirement is not more than 30000 every year. We will become self-reliant in the field of forensic science. Yesterday, someone sent me a survey which claims the global forensic technology market is worth USD 20 billion and will be worth 55 billion US dollars by 2036 with a 13 per cent compound annual growth rate," he said. The survey estimates India's share in it to be 9 per cent, which means there is huge potential for the youth to explore, he added. "Chhattisgarh has four regional State Forensic Science Laboratories in Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg and Jagdalpur. Now CFSL will also be set up which will give huge strength to our criminal justice system. Now no one will have to go to any other state and there will be no need to send forensic samples to Delhi for investigation. The entire investigation will be done in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar itself," he added. Within a short time, the NFSU has 16 campuses, seven of which have been established and nine have been approved. Ten additional campuses are proposed, which will see NFSU expand its operations to 26 major locations nationwide, Shah said. During the function, Shah also virtually inaugurated the NFSU transit campus in Sejbahar here and i-Hub Chhattisgarh. After the Sai government took over, MoUs worth Rs 5 lakh crore have been signed in recent investment summits, Shah said, but added that the state's industrial revolution cannot happen till its youth become entrepreneurs themselves. "If someone from outside sets up an industry, employment, revenue and possibilities will increase. But when the youth of Chhattisgarh become MSME industrialists, create their own startups, they will create a culture of industrial adventurism. Chhattisgarh will not be able to develop until then," he said. The i-Hub High Hope initiative launched during the day will not only help youth create startups but will also give them technological support and check the practicality of their ventures, Shah said. A similar centre has been set up in Gujarat and it is doing very good work, Shah said. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CMs Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain were present on the occasion.

Centre Clears Major Road Projects In Nashik Ahead Of Simhastha Kumbh Mela

Mumbai: A meeting was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Nagpur's Hyderabad House. The 2027 Sinhastha Kumbha Mela in Nashik was the top agenda. The meeting focused on improving the road infrastructure to handle the surge in pilgrims in the city. The meeting was attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan. Also present were Minister of State Shivendra Raje Bhosale, other public representatives, and senior government officials. Highway Approvals And Centre's Support "We had requested the central government - I had personally requested the Prime Minister - that the road network required for the Kumbh should be taken up by the Centre. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held a meeting on that issue," Mr Fadnavis said. He added eight major roads, including those from Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Gujarat, Mumbai, Dhule, and Palghar, which will be used heavily during the Kumbh, have been approved. "Some internal roads that fall under the Centre's purview were also discussed. Nitin Gadkari has approved almost all of these roads. That's why road works on national highways are essential." Among the key projects discussed is the construction of a four-lane highway connecting Ghoti to Trimbakeshwar via Jawhar, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,700 crore. Additionally, there are plans to expand the Nashik-Sinnar stretch and upgrade national highways linking Nashik to other major cities, aiming to improve regional connectivity ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela. Dwarka Junction To Be Built In Two Phases "We are executing the project in two phases. The first will be completed before the Kumbh, and the second will begin afterward. This is to ensure no work remains unfinished during the event," Mr Fadnavis said, referring to the major bottleneck in Nashik. Mr Mahajan said the underpass at Dwarka is not being utilised efficiently. "We've directed MSRDC to come up with a new design. Work is expected to begin in the next three months," he added. Nashik Ring Road Update The Nashik Ring Road project, pending for years, has finally been cleared. "Instructions have been given to complete the project within 18 to 24 months," Mr Mahajan said. He said a new connection between Jalgaon and Sambhaji Nagar is under consideration, which will improve access to Mumbai. In addition, roads leading to pilgrimage hotspots like Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur will be upgraded to accommodate increased traffic.

'Will Not Let Maoists Sleep Even During Monsoon': Amit Shah

Raipur: Delivering a firm message in Nava Raipur of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reaffirmed the Centre's commitment to ending Maoism in India by March 31, 2026. "This time," he declared, "we will not let them sleep through the monsoon-there will be no further dialogue." In his address, HM Shah once again appealed to Maoist cadres to surrender and return to the mainstream, assuring them that the government would uphold all commitments under the state's surrender policy. "Many have already chosen peace," he said. "We will extend more than what was promised-but only if violence is forsaken and you join in shaping a new Chhattisgarh." He also urged the youth of Chhattisgarh to embrace the growing opportunities in forensic science, describing it as a 'sunrise industry' with immense potential for purposeful careers. His remarks came during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) campus and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Naya Raipur. The Rs 268 crore initiative-Rs 145 crore for NFSU and Rs 123 crore for CFSL-is part of a national strategy to modernise the criminal justice system through evidence-based policing and forensic-led investigations. Calling it a landmark day for Chhattisgarh's justice infrastructure, the Home Minister said the new institutions would serve not only the state but all of central India. The NFSU transit campus will offer graduate and postgraduate courses from 2025-26 in various forensic disciplines, with HM Shah asserting that "an NFSU degree means a guaranteed job." The Centre aims to produce 32,000 forensic professionals annually through 26 campuses nationwide; seven have already been established, 10 are proposed, and nine are sanctioned. He highlighted the economic promise of the forensic sector, noting that the global forensic technology market-currently valued at $20 billion-is growing at a compound annual growth rate of 13 per cent and is projected to reach $55 billion by 2036, with India contributing 9 per cent to that growth. HM Shah further emphasised the importance of youth-led entrepreneurship in Chhattisgarh's development. Following the inauguration of the state's Innovation Hub (i-Hub), he pointed to the signing of a Rs 5,000 crore Memorandum of Understanding at an investment summit hosted by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. While welcoming industrial interest, the Home Minister stressed that true transformation would come only when young people become entrepreneurs and foster an industrial mindset. He described the i-Hub as a launchpad for innovation, offering technical and financial support to aspiring entrepreneurs, particularly in the MSME sector. "Industries are arriving, but Chhattisgarh will only witness real development when its youth lead the way," he said. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of Chhattisgarh's formation, which the state is observing as Atal Nirman Varsh. "Atal ji created Chhattisgarh, and under Narendra Modi ji, we will take it to new heights," HM Shah declared. He also praised the state government for its swift implementation of the newly enacted criminal laws-Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)-noting that these reforms aim to ensure justice is delivered within three years of filing an FIR.
