Centre Clears Major Road Projects In Nashik Ahead Of Simhastha Kumbh Mela

A meeting was held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Nagpur's Hyderabad House. The 2027 Sinhastha Kumbha Mela in Nashik was the top agenda. The meeting focused on improving the road infrastructure to handle the surge in pilgrims in the city.
The meeting was attended by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan. Also present were Minister of State Shivendra Raje Bhosale, other public representatives, and senior government officials.
Highway Approvals And Centre's Support
"We had requested the central government - I had personally requested the Prime Minister - that the road network required for the Kumbh should be taken up by the Centre. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held a meeting on that issue," Mr Fadnavis said.
He added eight major roads, including those from Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, Gujarat, Mumbai, Dhule, and Palghar, which will be used heavily during the Kumbh, have been approved.
"Some internal roads that fall under the Centre's purview were also discussed. Nitin Gadkari has approved almost all of these roads. The detailed project reports (DPRs) will be prepared soon, and the required funds will be allocated," the chief minister said.

Major Road Projects in the Pipeline
Highlighting the urgency of road upgrades, Mr Mahajan said, "This year, we are expecting a record crowd for the Kumbh. That's why road works on national highways are essential."
Among the key projects discussed is the construction of a four-lane highway connecting Ghoti to Trimbakeshwar via Jawhar, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,700 crore. Additionally, there are plans to expand the Nashik-Sinnar stretch and upgrade national highways linking Nashik to other major cities, aiming to improve regional connectivity ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela.
Dwarka Junction To Be Built In Two Phases
"We are executing the project in two phases. The first will be completed before the Kumbh, and the second will begin afterward. This is to ensure no work remains unfinished during the event," Mr Fadnavis said, referring to the major bottleneck in Nashik.
Mr Mahajan said the underpass at Dwarka is not being utilised efficiently. "We've directed MSRDC to come up with a new design. Work is expected to begin in the next three months," he added.
Nashik Ring Road Update
The Nashik Ring Road project, pending for years, has finally been cleared. "Instructions have been given to complete the project within 18 to 24 months," Mr Mahajan said.
He said a new connection between Jalgaon and Sambhaji Nagar is under consideration, which will improve access to Mumbai. In addition, roads leading to pilgrimage hotspots like Shirdi and Shani Shingnapur will be upgraded to accommodate increased traffic.

He also praised the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Deputy CM Vijay Sharma for their efforts in taking the anti-Naxalite campaign to a decisive phase. Shah appealed to Naxalites to surrender and join the development journey of Chhattisgarh. He assured that graduating from NFSU under the Modi government will guarantee employment. The NFSU's permanent campus is expected to be fully developed within three years, opening up vast career opportunities for Chhattisgarh's youth in forensic science. Bengaluru Metro's loss is BMTC' gain on NICE Road
Bengaluru: With the long-delayed Yellow Line of Namma Metro to Electronics City still not open to public, thousands of commuters are turning to BMTC's NICE Road express bus services, which have seen a sharp rise in ridership and earnings in recent months. Launched in Dec 2023, BMTC services along NICE Road corridor began with 62,000 passengers. Today, they attract more than 4 lakh commuters each month. The corporation is now operating 53 buses across 17 routes on NICE Road, with daily ridership exceeding 13,000 passengers. Revenue has also seen a notable jump, with earnings per kilometre doubling in just over a year to Rs 58.8 from Rs 26.1. Among the services gaining traction is the recently introduced non-stop express route covering 48km between Madavara and Electronics City. BMTC chief traffic manager (operations) GT Prabhakar Reddy said the services have outpaced other major corridors within city limits in terms of popularity. "...Responding to this demand, we've added more routes and buses. We've also introduced a direct link from Tavarekere to Electronics City and are planning to roll out 10 AC buses on this route," he said. NICE Road buses now connect key IT hubs via routes originating in Madavara, Vijayanagar TTMC, Bidadi, Kengeri, Banashankari, Basaveshwara Nagar, and other residential areas. Commuters cite reduced travel time and avoidance of city-centre congestion as key reasons for choosing NICE corridor. A one-way ticket from Madavara to Electronics City costs Rs 76, including a Rs 30 toll charge levied by NICE. Although BMTC had earlier requested the toll be reduced or waived for public transport buses, the proposal did not receive any favourable response from NICE authorities. Several passengers also use Metro to reach Madavara before switching to buses to complete their journey to Electronics City. This seamless multimodal shift has become increasingly necessary, as BMRCL continues to miss deadlines for the Yellow Line, connecting RV Road and Bommasandra. Despite spending nearly Rs 7,000 crore on the 19-km elevated stretch, the Metro line — initially expected to launch in June with three trains — is yet to receive third-party safety clearance for its signalling system. With no official launch date in sight and repeated delays, public confidence in BMRCL's timeline continues to erode. Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurates Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Trust office in Yamunanagar
Chandigarh: Union housing, urban affairs and power minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Sunday inaugurated the office of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust built at PWD Rest House Vyaspur in Yamunanagar. During a meeting chaired by the Union power minister with the members of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Lohgarh Foundation Trust, detailed discussion was held on initiating the construction of the Lohgarh Memorial. A monitoring committee and expert committee will monitor the construction process of the memorial, and the issue of organisation of cultural programmes related to Sikh heritage was also discussed. Former cabinet minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar was nominated as the chairman of the monitoring committee. The expert committee will be responsible for identifying key historical facts and significant events related to the monument, as well as contributing to its preservation and enhancement through in-depth research. During the meeting, Rakesh Beniwal, founder of Kisan Yuva Club, and his colleague Aman Virk handed over a cheque of Rs 11 lakh to Khattar as a donation in the name of the trust. Earlier, chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Zora Singh, donated Rs 11 lakh to the trust.
