Alejandro Garnacho leaves Man Utd fans fuming with Marcus Rashford gesture
Alejandro Garnacho is one of a number of Mancheser United stars up for sale this summer after being told to find a new club by Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim earlier this year Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has prompted the ire of the club's supporters by wearing another Premier League side's shirt. The winger posted a picture of himself wearing an Aston Villa top with 'Rashford' on the back. Both Garnacho and Marcus Rashford are expected to leave Manchester this summer, and neither is part of Ruben Amorim's plans at Old Trafford. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park after being left out of numerous United squads. And Argentina international Garnacho was told to find a new club at the end of the season after venting his frustration at not starting in the Europa League final. The 20-year-old was left out of United's final Premier League matchday squad. The young star was the subject of interest in January as Napoli had a bid in the region of £40million turned down. An asking price of £70m was initially touted for Garnacho but it has since been suggested that figure could be slashed to facilitate a move. And Garnacho's social media activity appears to have signalled some camaraderie with Rashford, to the dismay of some United fans. Sharing photographs from his holiday to Ibiza, one included a picture of him wearing Marcus Rashford's Aston Villa shirt. Rashford responded to the post with the words 'My brother' and a heart emoji. Others of a United persuasion were less kind, however. "To wear another Premier club's top is madness and proves you clearly are not mentally ready for the next level," wrote one fan. "You've lost the respect of majority of United fans especially those that have backed you," added another. "Garnacho just keeps proving why he must leave," remarked a supporter. "His ego is ridiculous for somebody with his ability." "There's a line and you just crossed it," said another. "See ya later Garnacho, clear off and find yourself another club," said a further fan. An additional supporter suggested the image was an intentional move. "Garnacho knows exactly what he's doing wearing that jersey.. weirdo," they said. Both players could soon find themselves returning to United however. Rashford is said to be ready to return for pre-season training if a transfer away does not materialise. Nobody is currently in serious talks to sign the 27-year-old and Rashford is 'preparing' for such an eventuality with United's stars due back for tests and training next month. Despite interest from a host of Europe's elite, such as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Juventus, United are believed to have not received any formal offers for the forward.

Monday's briefing: Man City progress as Real win marred by racism allegation
Real Madrid got their first victory in the United States after recovering from an early red card to beat Mexican side Pachuca 3-1 in Charlotte despite missing Kylian Mbappe, while Juventus again impressed. Sensational six to secure their place in the next round. 🥶#FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) June 23, 2025 Ilkay Gundogan scored twice as Manchester City thrashed Al Ain 6-0 to secure their place in the last 16. The Premier League side were far too strong for their Abu Dhabi-based opponents under a closed roof at Atlanta's spectacular Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The result seemed certain from the moment Gundogan, who has been linked with a move to Galatasaray, opened the scoring – perhaps fortuitously – by lobbing the keeper after eight minutes. Teenager Claudio Echeverri marked his first City start by adding the second from a free-kick and Erling Haaland made it 3-0 from the penalty spot. Gundogan finished off a neat move after 73 minutes before substitutes Oscar Bobb and Rayan Cherki struck late on to ensure City and Juventus will progress from Group G. Juventus had earlier beaten Wydad Casablanca 4-1 in Philadelphia to also book their place in the knockout stage. 🫲 Boom 🫱 — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) June 22, 2025 Real Madrid overcame an early red card for defender Raul Asencio to beat Mexican side Pachuca 3-1 in Charlotte and close in on the last 16 of the Club World Cup. Xabi Alonso's side had been held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal in their opening Group H game and were without Mbappe, who is recovering after being discharged from hospital following acute gastroenteritis. Real Madrid saw defender Asencio sent off after just seven minutes for hauling down Salomon Rondon. The LaLiga giants, though, held out against a spell of pressure from the Mexicans to break the deadlock through Jude Bellingham in the 35th minute before Arda Guler doubled the lead ahead of half-time. Federico Valverde volleyed in a third with 20 minutes left, before the Mexicans grabbed a late consolation through Elias Montiel's deflected effort. However, Alonso confirmed in his post-match press duties that Antonio Rudiger had been on the end of alleged racist abuse. 'That's what Rudiger said, and we believe him,' Alonso said. 'It is important to have zero tolerance in these kinds of situations. FIFA now is investigating. That's all I can say.' Marcus Rashford has revealed he would like to play alongside teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal at Barcelona. Rashford signed a five-year contract with Manchester United in 2023, but spent the second half of the Premier League campaign on loan at Aston Villa. The future of the 27-year-old under Ruben Amorim – who had left him out of several squads – remains uncertain, with Barcelona sporting director Deco last month saying the club 'like' Rashford. England forward Rashford opened up about his ambitions in an interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz, which was shared by BBC Sport. Asked if he would like to be team-mates with Barca's 17-year-old scoring sensation Yamal, Rashford said: 'Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we'll see.' 'It's difficult to put into words what (Yamal) is doing because he's not supposed to be doing that at 16 or 17. I don't think we've seen that before.' One last work session in California before heading to Seattle!#FIFACWC — Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_English) June 22, 2025 After a shock defeat to Brazilian side Botafogo, European champions Paris St Germain will look to get their Club World Cup campaign back on track against Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field. Copa Libertadores holders Botafogo head to the Pasadena Rose Bowl to take on Atletico Madrid in their final Group B match.

EFL Championship: How long since Wrexham played these clubs?
Phil Parkinson's men finished runners-up in League One last term to secure an historic third successive promotion. Back in the second tier for the first time in 43 years, Wrexham will come up against some familiar faces but there are also new opponents for Reds fans to look forward to facing. There are three teams - Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and West Brom - that the north Wales club, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have never faced in a league encounter. However, Wrexham secured a 2-1 victory over Ipswich, then a Premier League outfit, in an FA Cup third round tie at The Racecourse in 1995 with Keiron Durkan and Gary Bennett getting the goals to set up a trip to Manchester United. And four years later at the same stage of the competition, Brian Flynn's Reds caused another upset by beating Middlesbrough - another top-flight side - by the same score at the iconic north Wales stadium with Robin Gibson and Darren Ferguson finding the net against big-spending Boro. Cup surprises were the norm for Wrexham, led by Karl Connolly and co, in the 1990s under Flynn. Watching on from the Kop, I always felt that the Reds would come out on top when they faced higher division opponents. Although they faced some tough times following relegation from the EFL, Wrexham have climbed the football pyramid at a rapid rate since the high profile takeover of the club and now they will be facing the likes of Ipswich and Boro on a weekly basis next season. You have to go even further back to when Wrexham played West Brom in a regional league competition which does not count in official records. The 1941-42 campaign was a special wartime season in England and Wrexham lost 6-4 at the Baggies before drawing 5-5 at home in another high-scoring clash. It is 65 years since the last time Wrexham faced Southampton in a league game. The Reds beat the Saints 2-1 at The Racecourse in the 1959-60 season after losing 3-0 at The Dell in the old Division Three, although the teams met in a two-legged League Cup tie back in 1979 with Southampton winning 8-0 on aggregate. I was just a young boy then but I fondly remember the last time Wrexham played Coventry City! Parkinson's men - then in the National League - caused yet another FA Cup shock when they won 4-3 at Coventry in the third round of the FA Cup in January 2023. The promotion push was the priority but the Reds produced a brilliant performance to win against the second tier Sky Blues with Sam Dalby, Elliot Lee, Tom O'Connor and Paul Mullin getting the goals. The teams last met in the league in 1963-64, but the other teams in the Championship have faced Wrexham more recently. Blackburn Rovers, Derby County, Leicester City and Norwich City were opponents in 1981-82 - the Reds' last campaign in the old second division. But there has been an FA Cup encounter with Blackburn as recently as 2024 when Andy Cannon put Wrexham ahead in front of 7,000 travelling supporters at Ewood Park before Rovers turned things around to triumph 4-1 while Derby beat the Reds 3-1 in the competition back in 2007 - Denis Smith's last game as manager. Portsmouth and Sheffield United were Division Three opponents in 1982-83, although the Reds have enjoyed some pulsating cup ties against the Blades during the Reynolds/McElhenney regime. Fresh after knocking out Coventry, the Reds were heading for the FA Cup fifth round in 2023 but United scored a last gasp equaliser to draw 3-3 at The Racecourse before winning the replay 3-1 after bagging two late goals in Yorkshire. The last time Watford and Preston North End were league opponents was during the 1997-98 and 1999-2000 campaigns respectively, with David Moyes in charge at Deepdale where the Reds played out a goal-less draw. Wrexham haven't faced Millwall since 2000-01 when Craig Faulconbridge scored in a 1-1 draw at The Racecourse. The Reds last went head-to-head with Stoke City in 2001-02 but met in an FA Cup tie in 2015 when Mark Carrington put Kevin Wilkin's side ahead but the then Premier League side - managed by Wales and Wrexham-born legend Mark Hughes - hit back to win 3-1. There will be a Welsh derby with Swansea City to look forward to next season. The last meeting was in 2002-03 when the Reds won promotion from Division Three. Wrexham and Queens Park Rangers haven't met since 2003-04, the season before Hull City, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday were opponents when the Reds went into administration and suffered relegation from League One, but they did have EFL Trophy success to celebrate that campaign with a win over Southend United in the final at The Millennium Stadium. MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS However, Smith guided his Reds side to a League Cup win against the Owls in August 2006 at Hillsborough - the biggest stadium Wrexham will visit next season. There is one club - Oxford United - who Wrexham actually faced during the 15-year non-league nightmare. The sides met during the 2009-10 campaign when Oxford won both games 1-0 on route to clinching promotion, and they also triumphed 2-1 in an FA Cup match in 2013. Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic were both opponents last season when Wrexham sealed promotion from League One. The 3-0 win against Charlton in April at The Racecourse proved to be a memorable occasion as goals from Sam Smith (2) and Ollie Rathbone ensured Wrexham went straight up for a third year in a row behind big-spending champions Birmingham, with the Addicks joining the duo after winning the play-off final.
