High school renames field after former Husker and current Super Bowl Champion Cam Jurgens

A former Nebraska offensive lineman was honored by his high school late last week. Beatrice High School, in Beatrice, Nebraska, named its football field Cam Jurgens Field after the former Cornhusker and current Philadelphia Eagles center on Friday evening.
Jurgens was a three-sport star at Beatrice High and was the top in-state prospect in the 2018 recruiting class. He would sign with the Cornhuskers and play for Nebraska from 2018 to 21.
The former Husker started his career as a tight end before making the switch to center. Jurgens thanked everyone who came out to support him and his family on this special night, as reported by 1011 Now.
"Thank you, everybody, for coming out. This is such a special night... this is pretty wild, and it's going to be pretty cool with the football team out here standing next to my name."
The Philadelphia Eagles selected the center in the second round with the 51st pick overall in the 2022 NFL draft. He recently signed a four-year $68 million extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. This includes a $39.4 million guaranteed contract and keeps him with the organization through the 2029 season.

Oregon football offers brother of 5-star OT Immanuel Iheanacho

The Oregon Ducks are hosting 5-star offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho on an essential official visit this weekend, hoping to get him on board and in the 2026 recruiting class before he leaves town at the end of the weekend. It appears that they are going the extra mile to do so, as well. On Sunday morning, it came out that the Ducks extended an offer to Michael Iheanacho, the younger brother of Immanuel. Michael is a member of the 2028 class, a 6-foot-2, 240-pound offensive tackle who is currently unrated by 247Sports. Meanwhile, Immanuel stands as one of the most significant players on Oregon's recruiting board in the 2026 class, rated as the No. 8 overall player in the class while standing at 6-foot-6, 345 pounds. He is considering Oregon alongside the Penn State Nittany Lions, LSU Tigers, and Auburn Tigers. Iheanacho has set a commitment date for August 5, but there is some speculation that he could end up announcing his commitment as soon as Sunday before his visit is over. If offering his younger brother — someone who could ultimately be a highly-touted recruit in the 2028 class — is something that will help push that decision along, then the Ducks made the right call in doing so. Florida football lands first 2027 commitment from blue-chip athlete Tramond Collins

Florida football landed its first commitment from the 2027 recruiting class this weekend from four-star athlete Tramond Collins following his appearance at the program's annual Grille in the Ville event. The 6-foot-2-inch, 183-pound prospect out of Cottondale (Florida) who is also listed at wide receiver by 247Sports chose the Gators over seven total offers, which also include the Florida State Seminoles, Kentucky Wildcats and Tennessee Volunteers. Billy Napier and Co. put on a show for the young recruit on Saturday, which was clearly enough to earn the verbal pledge. Collins amassed 661 yards on 31 carries and nine rushing touchdowns while catching 13 passes for 402 passing yards and six touchdowns during his high school sophomore campaign. On defense, he recorded 33 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. The Sunshine State product is also a standout on the track and the basketball court. Collins earned the regional title in the 200-meter dash last season, running times of 10.89 in the 100-meter dash and 21.89 in the 200-meter dash; he averaged 13.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game on the parquet. Tramond Collins' Recruiting Summary Collins is ranked No. 179 overall and No. 8 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 272 and 10, respectively. "Three-phase impact player as a sophomore at Cottondale, which went 9-1 in Florida's rural classification," 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins begins. "Got snaps at WR, QB, DB and LB while also serving as a return man. Carried the ball 31 times for 661 yards (21.3 YPC) and 9 TD while also catching 13 passes for 402 yards (30.9 YPC) and 6 TD on offense while totaling 33 tackles, 2 FR and 1 INT on defense. Added a KORTD." Follow us @GatorsWire on X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Bluesky, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida Gators news, notes and opinions.

Golden State coach unearths blueprint for slowing Caitlin Clark

After holding Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark to 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting from the field and 0-of-7 from 3-point territory. In front of a raucous Chase Center crowd, Golden State gave Clark fits on Thursday night. Valkyries head coach Natalie Nakase was asked to share the secret for her team's defensive successes against Clark. "I mean, you guys saw what we're doing. We were being disruptive. We know she doesn't like physicality," Nakase said. "We know she wants to get to that left stepback. I watched her at Iowa. She loves that left stepback, it's almost like a layup for her. So we were just making sure she wasn't getting into rhythm and then that she was seeing multiple bodies." While it's no secret that teams across the league have been trying to apply physical pressure on Clark since she arrived in the league, the challenge of executing such tactics for a full game has rarely been achieved. Golden State's defensive approach will continue to be commonplace against Clark and occasionally could create some of the hostility that erupted during Indiana's June 14 win against the Connecticut Sun. The Fever and Valkyries will meet again on July 9 from Indianapolis where Clark will undoubtedly have plenty of motivation to make amends and to let Golden State witness her scoring abilities in front of a crazed Fever faithful.
