The man was in a Nissan Sentra a little before 6 a.m., heading southbound on Hollymount Road north of John J. Williams Highway (Route 24), investigators said. At the same time, two commercial flatbed trailers were parked in the northbound section of the highway lanes: partially in the northbound shoulder and partially in the grass.
There were orange reflective traffic cones positioned alongside the trailers.
For reasons under investigation, police said the Sentra left Hollymount Road's south lane and entered the north shoulder, where it hit one of the trailers.
The impact pushed the first trailer into the second trailer.
Hollymount Road was closed for more than three hours while police investigated and then cleared the scene.

Police searching for driver who hit woman, left her to die near Bethel
Editor's note: This story has been updated to include the victim's name and the style of car that investigators believe might have been used in the hit-and-run incident. Delaware State Police are searching for a driver who hit a 78-year-old Seaford woman and drove off, leaving the woman to die on the side of the road. Police have also released an image of a vehicle style they believe might have been involved in the incident: an unknown color 2010-2013 Buick Lacrosse with damage to the passenger's side front and windshield. The crash happened a little before 9 p.m. on June 15 in the 8000 block of Bethel Rd. near Bethel. The woman, Cheryl Hiett of Seaford, wasn't found for almost 12 hours, state police said. Troopers were called to the road about 6:15 a.m. on June 16. There, they found Hiett dead. Detectives learned that the night before, an "unknown vehicle" was driving east on Bethel Road, west of Oneals Road. READ: Hundreds gather to remember 3-year-old girl who police say was fatally beaten by mother That's when Hiett walked into the east lane and "into the vehicle's path of travel," police said. The car hit her, then fled, police said. State police ask anyone with information to call (302) 703-3266 or contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) 847-3333. Got a tip?
