NAREDCO Telangana backs government's Bhu Bharati and BuildNow initiatives

The Hindu23-04-2025

The National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Telangana has extended its support to the Telangana government's recently launched Bhu Bharati portal and the BuildNow application, hailing them as transformative steps towards strengthening land governance and accelerating real estate growth, especially in rural and semi-urban parts of the State.
Expressing appreciation for the government's proactive approach during a press conference held in Hyderabad on Wednesday, NAREDCO Telangana said the Bhu Bharati portal aims at addressing long-standing land-related challenges in Telangana. 'The Bhu Bharati initiative marks a significant stride toward a transparent and efficient land administration system in Telangana. It will reduce legal uncertainty, simplify property transactions and open up new development zones, particularly in semi-urban and rural areas,' said Vijaya Sai Meka, president of NAREDCO Telangana.
In addition, NAREDCO Telangana lauded the government's efforts to simplify the building approval process through the BuildNow application, which replaces the existing TG-BPASS system. 'The BuildNow application is a milestone that will further ease project execution and enhance the ease of doing business in Telangana. By involving industry stakeholders during development, the government has shown commendable foresight,' he said.

TG to counter Banakacharla with Tummidhetti project

Hyderabad: Amid the fresh row over the Banakacharla project between AP and Telangana; the Telangana government is bracing to expedite the construction of the much-delayed Tummidihetti project to counter the Andhra Pradesh government's preemptive move to develop the controversial multi-crore Godavari-Banakacharla project. A delegation led by TG Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has already informed Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil about the government's decision to take up the Tummidihetti during the meeting held in New Delhi on Thursday. As a report of the Central Water Commission (CWC) already established the availability of adequate water for a project at Tummidihetti on Godavari, the State Irrigation wing came up with a proposal to utilize 180 TMC of water by constructing the Tummidihetti project. High-ranking official sources said that the irrigation officials were already engrossed in the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) afresh for the project for submission to the Centre soon. It may be mentioned here that the previous government had submitted a DPR to the CWS in May 2023 (before the Assembly elections in Telangana). Under the project, the then government proposed to establish a barrage across Pranahita river, a tributary of Godavari, at Tummidihetti village in Koutala mandal of Adilabad district. The main objective of the project is to provide irrigation facilities for an ayacut of 2 lakh acres in the erstwhile Adilabad district. Following regime change, the Congress government announced the revival of the Pranahita–Chevella project by constructing a barrage at Tummidihetti. 'State government decided to prepare a new DPR to utilize more than 180 TMC of water through the Tummidihetti project. The project will help Telangana utilize Godavari water. With the AP government hastening the approval process for Banakacharla and in view of the Centre's full support to the project, the Telangana government decided to mount pressure on the Centre for approval to the Tummidihetti also,' officials said, adding that Telangana had adopted a strategy to seek justice from the Centre by approving Tummihetti just as the Banakacharla project received all support. Should the Centre fail to clear the Tummidihetti project, the Telangana government would expose the double standard adopted by the Union government in approving Telangana projects on Godavari. The Chief Minister is keen to make Tummidhetti a big issue and seek central assistance for the project. Once the Tummidihetti project is approved, the abandoned Pranahita-Chevella project will come alive. Officials said that the relevant DPR would be prepared afresh and submitted to the Centre in two or three months.

Only 12% Women In Real Estate, National Council Aims To Bridge Gap

India's growing real estate sector, which is reportedly projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, is seeing gradual growth in the participation of women. However, they currently only comprise 11-12% of the workforce, according to reports. The women's wing of the National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO), known as NAREDCO Mahi, is working to change that. NAREDCO, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, is focused on the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Through NAREDCO Mahi, women are being empowered to take on key roles across the real estate value chain. The roles include design, planning, site supervision, and finance. "We are actively engaging with stakeholders to create inclusive pathways for women through our upskilling and outreach programmes," said Ms Smita Patil, President of NAREDCO Mahi. "In Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, women are now visible in legal, marketing, and client-facing roles that were once uncharted," she added. According to NAREDCO's data, 1 in 5 architects in India is a woman. Similarly, in Tier 1 cities, more women are leading real estate advisory firms than ever before. With the help of their formal training plans, digital certification programmes and labour training drills, the NAREDCO Mahi aims to provide upskilling opportunities to unskilled women labourers as well as promote their participation in skilled jobs like site engineering and construction planning.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation formulates SOP for illegal constructions

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has formulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for sealing unauthorised constructions and structures deviating from sanctioned plans, in line with the GHMC Act, 1955, and TG-bPASS Act, 2020. The SOP aims to ensure uniform action across all GHMC circles. Strict adherence has been mandated, and any lapses or negligence by officials may attract disciplinary action. Inspecting officers will be required to gather comprehensive details such as the stage of construction, nature of the work, specific deviations or violations, usage and information regarding the owner or occupier. A show cause notice must be issued to the owner or occupier, detailing the violations, grounds for demolition and instructing the immediate cessation of construction. Owners will be given 15 days to justify why the unauthorised or deviated construction should not be demolished, either in writing or by appearing in person with supporting documents. If construction continues despite the notice, the premises will be sealed. Occupied buildings must be vacated within three days to facilitate sealing. The site will be sealed with a red ribbon and official paper tag. Utility services will be disconnected, and police and sub-registrar offices informed. Only the designated GHMC authority may remove the seal.
