A year ago, I was higher on the Bengals than I am right now because I don't know that they've done, like bringing in a new defensive coordinators a step, but I still think that fixing the defense is a multi-year project, and I, I just, I feel like they won 9 games last year.

I thought they were going to be an 11 win team last year.
I think they're sort of, you know, I, I guess, I don't know, I'm, I'm a little lower on the Bengals today than I was a year ago.
Yeah, I, I, I'll go with repeat.
If you read what I wrote about the Bengals last offseason, I, I was, I, I will say I was in the camp of, it wasn't just all Joe Burrow's injury why this team didn't make the playoffs.
Like Jake Browning actually played pretty well for them.
There are a lot of other things going on with the Bengals that I didn't like.
I kind of manifested itself last year.
The defense did fall off and At a plus side for them, they lost a lot of close, weird games.

I mean, losing at a Patriots week one.
I mean, it, it easily could have been a 10-11 win team in the playoffs.
We'd be having a totally different discussion about the Bengals, but I just don't know that they're that Super Bowl contender.
We all want them to be.
Yes, they brought back T Higgins.
They paid Jamar Chase.
Great for them, but it's basically the same team, like, where have they improved and the Trey Hendrickson thing.
Until that gets resolved, uh, that's a minus for them.
Uh, look, maybe just new blood, uh, a defense coordinator, replacing Lou Arumo with Al Golden, maybe that makes a big, big difference for this defense.

Maybe just the bounces go their way this year when it didn't last year, but I think you're just asking way too much of Joe Burrow to carry this team.
I don't like the infrastructure.
I don't like, I I I love the passing game, which is a great spot to start in the NFL.
I don't really love anything else.
I just, I, I, I don't see them being the best team in this division by far, and I just don't see how we get them to be like this top 5 team that we all thought they might be.
So I, I, yeah, I, I, I guess I would just say repeat on the Bengals, but I was a little bit lower in the market last year on the Bengals anyway.

Dawn Staley Reveals Helpful Advice For Eagles' Jalen Hurts

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Jalen Hurts has a friend in South Carolina Women's Basketball coach, Dawn Staley. The Philadelphia-born coach, who has made her support of the Philadelphia Eagles well known, recently revealed that she frequently sends messages to Hurts, offering some inspiration. As a quarterback in one of the toughest NFL markets, Staley feels that Hurts could use the frequent inspiration, even though he was considered one of the "coolest cats." "I know sometimes when you play for a team that's in Philly, and you're the quarterback, and you're the star, it really is a lonely place," said Staley. "He's QB1, we lose, the city goes crazy. So, I know it's a lonely place. Sometimes I text him, 'Hey, don't get too high with the highs or low.' He doesn't... He doesn't now. He's the coolest cat that I know, but sometimes you need to hear that you're the only one who is going to feel the pressure of everybody else, because other people in other positions can just kind of go under the radar, so to speak. When it's the quarterback, and we know you've got the potential to take us to Super Bowls and win Super Bowls, you really feel the pressure." Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles on the sideline during the second half against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on November 24, 2024 in Inglewood, run in Philadelphia hasn't always been easy. Although he quickly earned the support of the city after taking over as the starter during his rookie effort, beating out the struggling Carson Wentz, a sophomore slump created a negative narrative about Hurts as a franchise quarterback. Kylie Kelce and Dawn Staley talks about the pressure Jalen Hurts has being the quarterback in Philadelphia and how it can be really lonely for him. Dawn says she checks up on him, just to make sure he's good. She also says Jalen is the coolest calmest person ever. — ✍🏾 (@clearittfup) June 20, 2025 Even after Hurts put together an MVP campaign in year three and led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, the franchise quarterback remains one of the most polarizing players at the position. Staley was happy to see Hurts overcome the narratives in 2024, putting together a second Super Bowl run and coming out on top. The pressure was on Hurts to deliver more often than not, and he ended the season by earning Super Bowl MVP honors after the Eagles took down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Staley's advice likely went a long way for Hurts throughout his Philadelphia journey. Since the quarterback still faces a ton of question marks with all he's accomplished, Staley will have to continue reaching out to the two-time Pro Bowler to keep him sharp in the City of Brotherly Love. Bengals Cut Paves Way for Potential All-Rookie Campaign

Bengals Cut Paves Way for Potential All-Rookie Campaign originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Most of the hubbub this offseason about the Cincinnati Bengals' rookie class has centered on the controversy surrounding first-round pick Shemar Stewart and his contract holdout. Advertisement Stewart, a stout defensive end, was expected to form a fierce pass rush duo with last year's sack leader Trey Hendrickson ... who is also going through a contract dispute. Getting lost in the weeds is Cincy's second-round pick, linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr., who could make just as much impact as any rookie on this year's roster. Knight enters a perfect opportunity to see the field in his first NFL season, which earns him a spot on All-Rookie Team projection. Before the 2025 Draft, the South Carolina product's combine profile featured a player comparison that will sound familiar to Bengals fans: Germaine Pratt. Advertisement Pratt had requested a trade in February after six seasons in Cincinnati. After drafting Knight, Pratt was cut, which paves a nice road for Knight to take and potentially earn a spot in the starting lineup immediately. Cincinnati's other starting linebacker Logan Wilson had some good things to say about the rookie and his potential role this season. "He can do everything at a high level. Just a matter of putting it all together," Wilson said, via the team website. "He's fast, hits, big, shifty. All the things you want in a linebacker, he's got." "He's done a hell of a job for a rookie with how much we've installed and covered," he added. "I'm looking forward to playing next to him." Advertisement Knight has big shoes to fill, as Pratt was the Bengals' leading tackler last season with 143. He'll still have to earn his stripes this summer at training camp, but so far the rook has made a nice impression on his elder teammates. Knight will compete for a starting job with fellow rookie Barrett Carter and free agent signee Oren Burks, who has Super Bowl experience with the Eagles last season. "Those guys are still competing for that," head coach Zac Taylor said about his linebacker unit. "I do think [Knight] has worked really hard. As I come in the building, he's one of the first guys in the locker room every single day," Taylor said. "Very mature. He's ready to go, ready to compete."
