Dawn Staley Reveals Helpful Advice For Eagles' Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts has a friend in South Carolina Women's Basketball coach, Dawn Staley.
The Philadelphia-born coach, who has made her support of the Philadelphia Eagles well known, recently revealed that she frequently sends messages to Hurts, offering some inspiration.
As a quarterback in one of the toughest NFL markets, Staley feels that Hurts could use the frequent inspiration, even though he was considered one of the "coolest cats."
"I know sometimes when you play for a team that's in Philly, and you're the quarterback, and you're the star, it really is a lonely place," said Staley.
"He's QB1, we lose, the city goes crazy. So, I know it's a lonely place. Sometimes I text him, 'Hey, don't get too high with the highs or low.' He doesn't... He doesn't now. He's the coolest cat that I know, but sometimes you need to hear that you're the only one who is going to feel the pressure of everybody else, because other people in other positions can just kind of go under the radar, so to speak. When it's the quarterback, and we know you've got the potential to take us to Super Bowls and win Super Bowls, you really feel the pressure."

Even after Hurts put together an MVP campaign in year three and led the Eagles to the Super Bowl, the franchise quarterback remains one of the most polarizing players at the position.
Staley was happy to see Hurts overcome the narratives in 2024, putting together a second Super Bowl run and coming out on top. The pressure was on Hurts to deliver more often than not, and he ended the season by earning Super Bowl MVP honors after the Eagles took down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Staley's advice likely went a long way for Hurts throughout his Philadelphia journey. Since the quarterback still faces a ton of question marks with all he's accomplished, Staley will have to continue reaching out to the two-time Pro Bowler to keep him sharp in the City of Brotherly Love.

4 Broncos players, 1 coach make ESPN's All Quarter Century team
ESPN recently compiled a list of players to headline their NFL All Quarter Century team. Matt Leinart reveals he was nearly traded to New York Giants in 2010
In 2010, three years after they triumphed over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, the New York Giants were forced into the quarterback market. They had lost veteran David Carr to the San Francisco 49ers and needed someone to back up Eli Manning. At the time, the Giants settled on Sage Rosenfels but weren't entirely satisfied with that room. During a recent episode of Throwbacks with Matt Leinart and Jerry Ferrara, Leinart revealed that he was nearly traded from the Arizona Cardinals to the Giants to fill that role. "They were trying to trade me to the New York Football Giants... to back up Eli," Leinart said. "I ended up getting cut, and I signed with the Texans like three days later. That's when I went to Houston. "But there were conversations -- and I'm almost positive about this -- that (head coach Ken Whisenhunt) was like, 'Hey, we've been talking to the Giants about potentially trading you.' ... But yeah, it was the Giants. My agent was like, they liked me." Leinart said he preferred to be released as opposed to being traded, giving him the freedom to choose his next destination. That's exactly what happened, and he ended up with the Texans. "So, that almost happened. I was almost traded to the Giants," he said. Leinart, a first-round pick of the Cardinals in the 2006 NFL draft, spent two seasons with the Texans before a year with the Oakland Raiders. He eventually wrapped things up with the Buffalo Bills in 2013. In 33 career games (18 starts), Leinart completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 4,065 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. The Giants, meanwhile, settled on Rosenfels and Jim Sorgi as their backups in 2010 before re-signing Carr to back up Manning in 2011. They went on to win the Super Bowl that year, again defeating the Patriots.

Harry Brook holds England together to trail India by 144 runs at Headingley
Associated Press LEEDS, England (AP) — Harry Brook held England's reply together as India took two wickets on the third morning Sunday of the test series opener at Headingley. Brook was taking the attack to India with 57 not out, and using up lives, as England reached 327-5 at lunch, 144 runs behind India. England scored 118 runs in the session. India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah finally got support from his fellow bowlers as Prasidh Krishna bagged Ollie Pope on 106 and Mohammed Siraj claimed Ben Stokes on 20. Both were nicked off. Bumrah, who took the three England wickets on Saturday but should have had a five-for, had no luck on Sunday, but Brook also had a say. The batter, playing on his home ground, went after all of India's bowlers successfully for his 20th fifty-plus test score in his 42nd inning. He had seven boundaries and, in the day's first over, slogged Krishna for six over deep midwicket. Then Brook came down the track at Bumrah to bash him through the covers. Brook drove Krishna on the up for another four then charged at Siraj. Siraj adjusted but Brook still lifted the ball over the slips cordon to the deep third boundary. Ravindra Jadeja's spin troubled Brook the most but he pulled him to the square leg boundary with one bounce. Jadeja was getting the ball to fizz so well that Rishabh Pant dropped a tough chance at the stumps when Brook gave an outside edge on 46. That was Brook's second life. Bumrah got him caught in Saturday's last over but overstepped. After Pope was out early, adding only six runs to his overnight 100, Brook's assertiveness allowed Stokes to settle. Stokes lasted nearly an hour until he feathered Siraj behind. Jamie Smith, 29 not out, joined Brooks and their partnership by lunch was an unbeaten 51.
