CIA releases 1,400 new pages of investigative file into RFK assassination, including chilling note from his killer
The CIA released a new batch of declassified documents related to the government's investigation into the assassination of Robert F, Kennedy on Thursday, which includes a copy of a note that Kennedy's killer, Sirhan Sirhan, wrote.
Per President Donald Trump's executive order directing agencies to declassify materials in cases of public interest, including RFK and his brother JFK's assassinations, the CIA released 54 declassified documents, amounting to 1,400 pages.
"The records reveal for the first time that Senator Kennedy shared his experiences traveling to the former Soviet Union with CIA, reflecting his patriotic commitment to serving his country," the CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in a statement.
Much of the information in the release is not considered particularly revealing, but it does include an incriminating note that Sirhan wrote on May 18, 1968 – less than one month before Sirhan would fatally shoot Kennedy.
'R.F.K. must die, RFK must be killed, Robert F. Kennedy must be assassinated,' Sirhan wrote down over and over again on a piece of notebook paper used during his murder trial.
The note appears to have been obtained by the Associated Press and reprinted by the Washington Post, though it is unclear what year that was.
Kennedy, the brother of former president John F. Kennedy, was killed while serving as the Democratic senator of New York and campaigning for president. He was departing from the ballroom inside the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968, when 24-year-old Sirhan shot him multiple times.
Sirhan admitted to killing Kennedy and said he was motivated by the senator's support of Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. However, he has also made conflicting statements over the years about the shooting – which has fueled conspiracy theories about the assassination.
Ultimately, Sirhan was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death, although that was commuted to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Sirhan, now 81, has unsuccessfully sought parole at least 17 times over the past 56 years, the most recent being in August 2024.
But the handwritten note has been a point of contention over the years as Sirhan's lawyer, Lawrence Teester, has argued his client was hypnotized and framed – pointing to the note as an example of his client's state of mind.
Other documents included in Thursday's drop include Sirhan's psychological profile, though heavily redacted.

The Democratic governor on Friday announced vetoes of the legislation, which had been approved by both legislative chambers. Stein said the state is already stretched to assist federal officers. "My oath of office requires that I uphold the Constitution of the United States," Stein said. "Therefore, I cannot sign this bill because it would require sheriffs to unconstitutionally detain people for up to 48 hours after they would otherwise be released. He noted the federeal Fourth Circuit "is clear that local law enforcement officers cannot keep people in custody solely based on a suspected immigration violation." Stein said he also wants offenders to be held accountable. "Let me be clear, anyone who commits a serious crime in North Carolina must be prosecuted and held accountable regardless of their immigration status." He said he supports the bills' efforts to require sheriffs to contact federal immigration authorities about people in their custody charged with dangerous crimes, including sexual battery, armed robbery, arson, assault on public officials and court personnel. The vetoes were supported by Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers, Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough and Mecklenburg County Sheriff Gary McFadden. Republicans blasted the decision by the governor, who was elected in November. "Gov. Stein proved where his allegiances are," state Senate Leader Phil Berger posted on X. "He'd rather prioritize his far-left donors and their dangerous open-border policies over the citizens of North Carolina who are desperately pleading for us to put an end to the illegal immigration crisis. I look forward to the Senate overriding his veto." Stein also vetoed a bill that would have allowed permitless concealed carry in North Carolina. "This bill makes North Carolinians less safe and undermines responsible gun ownership," Stein said. "The bill eliminates training requirements associated with concealed carry permits and reduces the age to carry a concealed weapon from 21 to 18 years old. "We can and should protect the right to bear arms without recklessly endangering law enforcement officers and our people." Berger criticized the veto of this bill. "Law-abiding North Carolinians shouldn't have to jump through hoops to effectively exercise their Second Amendment rights," the Senate leader said. "It's past time for us to join the majority of states that recognize Constitutional Carry. I look forward to the Senate overriding Gov. Stein's veto." To override a veto, three-fifths of the House and Senate must approve the bills. In the latest election, Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the House by gaining one seat. The GOP has a one-vote supermajority in the Senate.

United States and POW/MIA flags were hoisted and hung upside down at three separate sites in southern Brooklyn Friday, infuriating locals who blamed the disrespect on anti-American, far-left policies being pushed by New York pols. The city Parks Department confirmed it sent crews Friday to fix the improperly-flying flags at John J. Carty Park and the Fort Hamilton Triangle in Bay Ridge, and Bath Beach Park in Bensonhurst. LA mayor rails against ‘insulting' Vance visit: A ‘photo-op'
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) called Vice President Vance's remarks 100 percent lies after Vance traveled to Los Angeles on Friday to show support for the Marines deployed during the anti-ICE protests. 'He comes in, he makes all of these statements about what is not happening in LA at all, then insults the senator that he serves with now, as president of the Senate, so it was just disrespectful and it was tough listening to him saying what is going on in our city and it be 100 percent lies,' said Bass. Vance, in front of federal, state and local officials in Los Angeles, justified President Trump's decision to send in the National Guard and Marines to squash anti-immigration protests last week. During his remarks, Vance insinuated that California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Bass were encouraging the protestors and preventing law enforcement from doing their jobs. He referred to the protests as 'riots' and said it was necessary to send the National Guard as the violence was uncontrollable by local law enforcement. The vice president came to LA after a three-judge federal appeals court panel unanimously ruled on Thursday that Trump was allowed to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles. Newsom sued Trump over his use of the National Guard, as he was not consulted prior to their deployment. During Vance's remarks he also misnamed Sen. Alex Padilla (D-Calif.), calling him Jose Padilla. 'I was hoping Jose Padilla would be here to ask a question,' Vance said. 'I guess he decided not to show up because there wasn't a theater.' Padilla was forcibly removed from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press briefing last week after trying to ask a question. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the senator did not identify himself. Video footage showed he did identify himself when making remarks. The scene created a scandal among Democrats who fear a normalization of violence against elected officials. 'He knows my name,' Padilla told MSNBC on Saturday. 'Look, sadly, it's just an indicator of how petty and unserious this administration is. But he's the vice president of the United States. You think he'd take the situation in Los Angeles more seriously.' Democratic allies of Padilla say it was done intentionally and accuse the vice president of blatant disrespect.
