Friends star makes surprising career move as she steps away from acting
The cast of Friends became some of the most recognisable faces in showbiz when they landed on screens in 1994 - but one actor has now stepped away from the industry all together
The Friends cast haven't been able to escape from their character's names since the show first aired in 1994. However, one star has moved far away from the sitcom as she reveals her surprising career change.
A huge storyline in the NBC sitcom was Ross Geller's (David Schwimmer) unfortunate love life, which all started off with his first wife Carol (Jane Sibbett). The couple shared son Ben, although Carol left Ross for Susan Bunch, played by Jessica Hecht.
The onscreen relationship between the two was groundbreaking, making history with the first lesbian wedding on network television in the episode "The One with the Lesbian Wedding", which aired on NBC on January 18, 1996.
Jane, who appeared in 15 episodes of the NBC sitcom which aired from 1994-2001 now has a very different career - as an energy healer.
The 62-year-old moved from California to Hawaii over a decade ago to pursue a career as an energy healer. Speaking about the transitioning from acting to healing and spirituality with PEOPLE, Jane said: 'When I work with the dancing hands, it's not me. It's source energy coming through me, and so I just feel nothing but bliss and joy and love when I am in this state."
Before her move to Hawaii, Jane and her hosted goddess circles for women, with groups ranging from 15 to 100 people who would partake in the spiritual activity.
The couple later launched a production company, although later split while living in Hawaii. I was on my knees because I was really broken hearted by everything, and part of that was my stuff that I had to deal with,' she told the publication.
Jane then embraced her new career as an energy healer. 'I wouldn't call it Reiki,' she said. '[My hands] just started dancing because I was never trained in Reiki, so I wouldn't even know what that is. I believe in it, I trust it [but] it's just not what I do. This wasn't trained. This just came in fully fleshed, immediately.'
In 2020, Jane opened up about the backlash she received from viewers for playing lesbian character Carol on the hit sitcom.
Speaking with Now To Love, she said: "It became apparent soon after [the show premiered] there was suddenly a responsibility about being able to stand up against all of the people that were saying this was wrong, including my own father who had a really hard time with that."
It came after the actress revealed she was initially poached for Jennifer Aniston 's role of Rachel Green before the show began filming.
However, she was unable to take on the role as she was pregnant at the time.

The third bachelorette party was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, coming to a total of $1,536. The wedding took place in Denver, meaning they had to fly out, which cost her another $1,782. 'Bachelorette number four was in Sonoma [California], it was her 30th birthday so we kind of balled out,' she admitted, revealing the total she spent was $1,676. The wedding was held in Maine, with accommodation and flights coming to $1,982. The fifth celebration was a joint party held in Scottsdale, with Shannon's husband's cost included in the total, which was $2,978. That wedding cost her another $1,081. In total, Shannon spent $14,863 on five bachelorettes and weddings, spending an average of $1,256 on the weddings and $1,716 on the bachelorette festivities. She added her time as a bridesmaids isn't over yet, with upcoming maid of honor duties for her sister's wedding and bachelorette coming soon. 'Love all of these people SO MUCH and would do any one of these events over in a heart beat,' she captioned the post. She continued: 'But its always important to remember that saying "yes" comes with a [price] tag! 'Brides/couples: be very open with your wedding party before expecting them to say yes. According to The Knot, the average cost of being a bridesmaid is between $1,200 to $1,800 but said it could be as high as $2,950. Many bridesmaids have taken to social media to share their qualms over being invited to be a part of someone's big day - with an astronomical price tag. Earlier in the year, a woman posted a lengthy message to Reddit, sharing her concerns over an upcoming wedding after the bride told her bridal party she expected them to cover huge financial costs of her pre-wedding events. 'When asking us to be in the wedding party, the bride made it clear she expected bridesmaids to pay for our dresses, alterations, and to be present for the rehearsal and wedding,' the woman explained in the Reddit post, shared to the Am I The A**hole Subreddit. She offered to either pay for makeup OR hair for me (the maid-of-honor) but said the bridesmaids can pay extra to have those done the day of the event,' she explained. The woman added that the other bridesmaids have expressed concern about escalating costs, which she also shares. However, when she spoke with the bride, she suggested that it would be easiest for the bridesmaids to understand the total costs they're expected to incur for the wedding, including dress, alterations, bridal shower, bachelorette, and any incidentals. 'I argued (politely) that we need to have an idea of what's expected of us, and it's not on us to create/manage the budget for her wedding,' she explained. 'I asked for a clear spreadsheet of our expected expenses so I can speak with the bridesmaids and make a plan,' she shared. 'Is it normal for bridesmaids to not know what's expected of them? I don't know much about weddings or being MOH and want her to have an amazing wedding without breaking the bank for the other ladies,' the woman shared, adding: 'I'm never saying yes to MOH again.' After speaking with the bride, the bridal party was given an estimate of $1,000 each. 'This is much higher than the initial $100 on a dress and alterations,' she pointed out. Nadia, Leah's mom, told reporters how she thought her daughter had lost a limb, saying "It was really, really bad" and that she didn't think her daughter "was going to have a hand." "It's some sort of miracle that now she has a hand," she added. "There was so much blood in the water right next to me, in an instant I knew it's a shark attack," Nadia said, adding that her daughter's "instincts kicked in". Leah ran out of the water where she was picked up by her dad and taken to the road where people rushed to help. "We [saw] that little girl come out from the water with no hand, it was... like everybody was in shock," eyewitness Alfonso Tello who was on a lunch break at the beach told NBC-affiliate WBBH. Within four minutes, responders from the Boca Grande Fire Department were on scene and she was flown two hours to Tampa General. MIRACLE WORKERS Leah's doctors told reporters how there was a six-hour window for them to save her hand from the moment she was mauled by the shark. Statement from Leah Lendel's family following the shark attack Nine-year-old Leah experienced a terrifying and life-altering event. Her family has issued the following statement following the suspected bull shark attack in Boca Grande, Florida: "We want to say Thank You to everyone that is praying for our sweet Leah. "We are thankful for the quick response of everyone that was on scene, the construction workers, residents that ran out to help and the first responders and to all the Doctors/Nurses that are doing everything to help our girl. "Yesterday Leah had an extensive surgery on her hand (wrist & fingers). "The Doctors, were able to get blood flow to her hand and fingers. "She is showing some movement in two fingers but can't feel the rest. "The doctors will be doing another procedure tomorrow to see if there is anything else that needs to be done. "The fact that Leah has all her fingers attached is already a testimony. "From witnessing her wrist hanging on by just the skin, to have blood flow in all of her hand and fingers is truly a miracle. Less than an hour after she arrived at the hospital, she was in surgery where they had to stabilize the bone and take blood vessels from her leg to help restore blood flow to her hand. "I was trying to hold myself together, Leah's dad Jay said. "I think I was crying more than she was." An x-ray of her hand shows how the skin, muscles, and bones in her hand were severed almost all the way across the middle. Leah will still need physical therapy and to have the pins in her hand removed but her parents say they are "just thankful for everybody". "I didn't think it was possible because I was holding her hand in my hand and I didn't think there was any chance at all of saving it," he said. "I'm so thankful to the surgeons for making such a miracle." "I'm just very thankful she's alive," Jay added. Leah said could not wait to start "playing with all my siblings" once her wounds healed. Her family launched a GoFundMe page to help with her recovery which has received over $47,700 at the time of writing.
