Brazilian star Raphinha has criticised ex-Barcelona gaffer Xavi for his struggles during the Spaniard's tenure

The La Selecao star struggled to find his footing at Barca upon moving from Leeds United in 2022 in a deal worth £55 million.
Raphinha has now opened up on his frustrating initial years at Barca, claiming he didn't have enough backing from Xavi and his coaching staff.
'I felt that neither he nor the coaching staff trusted me,' the Brazilian told journalist Isabela Pagliari. h/t (Barca Blaugranes).
'When there was no other, I was there and played the full 90 minutes. I gave everything I had to deliver and solved the games, but when there was someone else who could play in my place, I did it without thinking.

'Sometimes, I was doing everything in 60 minutes and I would take myself out.'
The former Rennes star also said that he worked hard to earn Xavi's confidence but to no avail.
'I tried to fix it, I had several conversations with him, but I saw that these didn't make any difference. He had his way of thinking,' Raphinha added.
Raphinha also contemplated leaving the Catalan giants last summer amid offers from Saudi Arabia but eventually changed his mind.
He has silenced his critics by reinvigorating himself this season with stellar performances.
Flick has undoubtedly unlocked the full potential of Raphinha, who has bagged 35 goals and 21 assists in all competitions.

Riley Gaines reacts to ‘phenom' Simone Biles deleting X after feud over transgender athletes

Decorated Olympian gymnast Simone Biles deactivated her X account weeks after her feud with former swimmer and women's sports activist Riley Gaines over a transgender high school softball player spiraled out of control. The 28-year-old's other social media accounts are still active, including her Instagram, which has 12.4 million followers. After noticing Biles' retreat, Gaines, 25, said it was 'sad to see such a phenom go down like this. ' 3 Olympian Simone Biles deleted her X account following her feud over transgender athletics with swimmer Riley Gaines. X / simone_biles '-has an incredibly unpopular and morally indefensible take, gets rightfully ridiculed for it, issues a groveling public apology after unrelenting backlash, deletes account to pretend it never happened,' the former NCAA swimmer for the University of Kentucky wrote on X. In early June, Marissa Rothenberger, a transgender athlete, pitched a shutout to give Minnesota's Champlin Park High School a state championship. The State High School League posted a team photo on social media after the big win — with comments turned off. 'To be expected when your star player is a boy,' Gaines, who competed against transgender University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas in 2022, said. Biles fired back at Gaines' critique. 3 Simone Biles during the Women's Team Final on day four of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at Ariake Gymnastics Centre on July 27, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!! But instead… You bully them… One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!' Biles wrote. Biles later apologized for the insults lobbed at Gaines, who is now a conservative commentator and activist for protecting women's sports. 3 Riley Gaines speaks at a news conference following the House of Representatives vote on H.R. 28 – 'Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act' at the US Capitol on Jan. 14, 2025. The current system doesn't adequately balance these important principles, which often leads to frustration and heated exchanges, and it didn't help for me to get personal with Riley, which I apologize for,' Biles wrote. 'We all want a future for sport that is fair, inclusive, and respectful,' she insisted. But the damage had already been done — and other sports celebrities weighed in, including ex-NASCAR driver Danica Patrick and Biles' former teammate MyKayla Skinner, who accused her of bullying. The exact reason why Biles deleted her X and not her other social media accounts is unclear.

Barcelona Chief Sends Blunt Message to Newcastle United, PSG Target Amid Transfer Rumors

PSG have a big decision to make—and clubs like Inter Milan and Manchester United are paying close attention. Is Gianluigi Donnarumma still the long-term solution in goal? The Italian goalkeeper is under contract until 2026, but interest from top European clubs is starting to grow. Since arriving from AC Milan in 2021, Donnarumma has delivered in key moments, especially in penalty shootouts and high-pressure situations. Still, his time in Paris hasn't been perfect. Advertisement One moment that continues to haunt him is the costly mistake against Real Madrid in the 2022 Champions League, which raised doubts about his reliability in the biggest games. Now that PSG have finally conquered Europe, the focus shifts to what comes next. Donnarumma's recent form has reaffirmed his spot as the club's No. 1, but with just over a year left on his deal, other teams are circling in case contract talks stall. Could Barcelona sell Newcastle United, PSG targetIf an extension doesn't come together soon, PSG may have to consider a summer sale to avoid losing him for free. Advertisement As for replacements, BILD has linked PSG to Marc-André ter Stegen if he ends up leaving Barcelona. Other clubs reportedly interested in Donnarumma include AC Milan, Manchester City, Juventus, and Newcastle United. While speaking to La Vanguardia, Barcelona's sporting director Deco commented on the future of ter Stegen. 'I don't need to speak with ter Stegen,' Deco said. 'My job is to build the best possible squad for the coach, not deciding who plays. No contract guarantees anyone a starting spot. It's the coach who makes those decisions.' However, SPORT has reported that Galatasaray have already made an offer for the 33-year-old, though Fichajes recently claimed that ter Stegen isn't planning to leave. According to that report, the German international believes Deco and Hansi Flick are trying to push him out.

Pep Guardiola reaction — Man City boss praises Ait-Nouri, Echeverri, Gundogan

Manchester City clobbered UAE side Al Ain at the Club World Cup on Sunday, scoring three goals in each half to seal passage to the knockout rounds via a 6-0 win. RECAP — Man City 6-0 Al Ain City will try to beat Juventus on Thursday to win Group G, but Guardiola's started 22 different players over two games including several new faces and he'll consider this tournament a success outside of the additional minutes it's asked of his squad. Ilkay Gundogan scored twice in the win, while Claudio Echeverri spun home a wonderful free kick and Rayan Ait-Nouri was terrific at left back. No, the opposition was not Premier League level. Yes, City looked very sharp. Pep Guardiola reaction on Ait-Nouri, Echeverri, Gundogan Here's Pep on ex-Wolves man Ait-Nouri, via Manchester Evening News: 'We knew it. A talent, within the final third a lot of talent. Defensively, he can play outside, he can play inside, and in the final third he's so clever. Really good.' On Gundogan: 'Gundo's an exceptional player! Exceptional in all senses. He's really, really good and made a fantastic goal, he reads what we have to do every game. I'm really pleased.' On Echeverri: "[Exiting at halftime] was a pity. It was a problem at half-time. ... I want to tell you a secret. Last season, when he arrived, after every training session he practiced free kicks alone. So work pays off. If he scored a goal, it's because he practiced. When other guys don't practice, they don't score.'
