1 2 Sambalpur: To improve the mental and physical well-being of inmates, Nari Bandi Niketan — the only women's prison in the state — has introduced weekly yoga sessions in collaboration with district health officials. Marking International Yoga Day , 30 women inmates took part in a special one-hour yoga and meditation session on the jail premises from 5:30 to 6:30am. Superintendent Runibala Dei said a yoga instructor also conducts daily sessions from 7 to 9 am, and every Friday, yoga inspector Dini Nayak offers a guided class to deepen the practice. "We have asked the yoga instructors to build rapport with the inmates and make the class an enjoyable activity to reduce stress among the prisoners," she added. To support holistic mental health, the prison also organises daily dance and music classes for inmates.

Over 15,000 yoga performers from all walks of life, including foreigners and children with special needs, performed yoga. He emphasised that yoga, encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual practices, promotes balance and control of body and emotions, fostering awareness among people. He said that daily yoga practice can lead to a healthy and fulfilling life. As part of the Yoga Day celebrations, 4 minutes of mobility exercises, 25 minutes of yoga asanas, and 14 minutes of pranayama, meditation, and a collective pledge was taken. MP Yaduveer KC Wadiyar and others were present. In Kodagu, Yoga Day was celebrated across the district. The main event was held at Gowda Samaja, Madikeri, and was inaugurated by MLA Manthar Gowda. He said that yoga helps to maintain physical and mental balance. "Due to its health and other benefits, yoga has spread across the globe now," he said. Mysuru: The city celebrated International Yoga Day with various events marking the occasion. At Rotary Midtown Academy, the event began with a mass yoga session led by school principal Athmanandha. He spoke about the importance of yoga. School head Sarli and Niveda, along with the children and teachers, performed yoga. The govt Nature Cure and Yoga Medical College and Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) celebrated the Yoga Day at the VVCE auditorium. VVCE principal B Sadashive Gowda and vice-principal Shobha Shankar were present. The celebration featured yoga demonstrations, wellness talks, and interactive sessions, highlighting the significance of yoga for physical and mental well-being. About 400 participated in the event, including students, faculty, NSS and NCC volunteers, and staff members. Yoga Sangam was celebrated at JSS Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital. The event was held in association with Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, Ministry of Ayush.
