WNBA Announces Frustrating Brittney Griner News on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The WNBA announced the latest All-Star voting results and several stars have some work to do in order to snag the prestigious honor. Fans will be watching to see how the final voting results shake out ahead of the WNBA All-Star Game on July 19.

One of the major questions is whether Atlanta Dream center Brittney Griner will be playing in the game. The WNBA All-Star Game will take place in Indianapolis, Ind., at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Fever and Pacers.
Angel Reese is among the notable players outside the top-10 in WNBA All-Star votes. Reese sits at No. 13 with a little more than 173,000 votes. It is no surprise that Caitlin Clark leads all players with more than 500,000 votes.

Despite having an 8-4 record, the Dream are not highly represented in the early voting results. Atlanta does not have a player in the top-10 with Allisha Gray leading the way for the Dream at No. 14 with a little more than 168,000 votes.
Griner is in danger of missing the WNBA All-Star Game as the Dream veteran is not listed among the top 30 players in the early voting. The Atlanta center is a 9-time All-Star and earned the honor her last two seasons with the Phoenix Mercury.
Part of the challenge is Griner is on pace to have her worst statistical WNBA season despite the Dream having success on the court. Griner is averaging a career-low 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in her first 10 appearances with Atlanta in 2025.

The WNBA announced Griner sits at No. 37 with 57,308 votes. Griner and the other Dream players will be subject to a detailed WNBA voting process which include more than simply fans' results.
"After all votes are tallied, players will be ranked by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups – fan votes, player votes and media votes," the WNBA detailed in a press release on Friday. "Each player's score will be calculated by averaging the weighted rank from the fan votes, the player votes and the media votes. The four guards and six frontcourt players with the best score will be named as starters for AT&T WNBA All-Star 2025. Fan voting will serve as the tiebreaker for players in a position group with the same score.
"After the starters have been determined, the league's head coaches will select the 12 reserves. The head coaches will vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position regardless of conference. "

Fans have until June 28 to vote for Griner and other WNBA stars.

Rachel DeMita explains her shock Big3 firing after WNBA posts: ‘Blindsided'
Rachel DeMita is no longer with the Big3. DeMita confirmed Friday on X that she was officially let go after posting about Caitlin Clark and the Fevers during a broadcast of the Big3 on Saturday. In a candid video addressed to her followers, DeMita told her side of the story and said she was a 'bit blindsided.' 'The rumors are true, I was fired from the Big 3 — I was terminated from my job with the Big 3,' she announced early in the video. 'I can say it, I was terminated this week.' DeMita explained that the tipping point was posting three times on X, commenting on the Saturday WNBA game between the Liberty and Fever head-to-head with a Big3 broadcast. Caitlin Clark finished with 32 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds in what became a high-profile 102-88 victory over the then-undefeated Liberty. Rachel DeMita attends the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Draw Ceremony on March 16, 2019 in Shenzhen, China. Getty Images DeMita read aloud from a Big 3 letter stating the league was 'dismayed and disappointed' at her focus on Clark over the live event, which saw her directly promoting the league's competition in the WNBA. In the letter, the Big3 also docked DeMita for not promoting 'only league games' as part of her dismissal. DeMita also noted that she had other posts that were from after and not during said contests. 'I did feel bummed that there wasn't any discussion prior to me prior to me being fired,' she said. 'I didn't hear from anybody, there was no talks about it, and I wasn't under the impression that those tweets would do any severe harm to the Big3.' Caitlin Clark scored 32 points in the Fever's win over the Liberty on June 14. Imagn Images She later added, 'I'm not making excuses, I'll take it on the chin, that's my bad, I apologize for that.' Though she did acknowledge that she wishes there was a discussion prior to the decision to cut her loose. The league seemingly viewed the tweets as a conflict of interest. Caitlin Clark now stars in the WNBA and earlier reportedly declined a lucrative Big 3 offer in the past. DeMita also notes that she hadn't signed a contract yet for this coming Big3 season and that her agent was still in talks with the company as she continued to work in good faith while a deal was being constructed.

Dodgers' Roki Sasaki Resumes Throwing Program in Recovery From Shoulder Injury
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Roki Sasaki has restarted his throwing program as he continues his recovery from a right shoulder injury. Manager Dave Roberts said the 23-year-old phenom threw from 60 to 90 feet Friday in his return to workouts after a brief pause. "That was a bonus," he said. "That was a plus. Chatted with him briefly afterward. He was excited about it." The Dodgers had halted Sasaki's throwing program for the previous several days because he didn't feel comfortable throwing at full intensity. Roberts confirmed that Sasaki has remained pain-free, but must build up his arm to game strength in a process that will take at least a few more weeks. Sasaki went on the injured list May 13 with right shoulder impingement, and the Dodgers transferred him to the 60-day injured list earlier Friday to make room on their roster for their latest trade acquisition, left-hander Zach Penrod. Roberts said Sasaki's move to the 60-day list was "procedural (and) the progression … doesn't affect that at all." Sasaki began his first stateside season in the Dodgers' rotation, going 1-1 with a 4.72 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP in eight starts while adjusting to his move from Japan to MLB. The Dodgers shut down Sasaki after he developed pain in his shoulder, but the two-time Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star began throwing again earlier this month. The Dodgers currently have a mere 13 pitchers on the injured list after having as many as 15 injured hurlers in recent weeks — and Sasaki isn't the only key starter making progress in his recovery. Tyler Glasnow will throw two innings Sunday for Triple-A Oklahoma City in his first rehab assignment, Roberts said. The $136.5 million right-hander has been on the injured list since April 28 with right shoulder inflammation. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell will throw a bullpen session soon at Dodger Stadium, Roberts said. The left-hander made only two starts to begin the first season of his $182 million deal before going on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation. Shohei Ohtani threw a bullpen session on schedule Friday despite getting hit by a pitch in his pitching shoulder in the ninth inning of the Dodgers' contentious 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday night. Ohtani is still scheduled to make his second mound start for the Dodgers on Sunday. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
