Two men issued fines for hare coursing

Two men have been fined after they were found guilty of hare coursing in Lincolnshire.
Edward Connors, 24, and Jerry Connors, 19, both of Rectory Lane, Woodmansterne, Banstead, Surrey, were arrested and charged after an incident in Crowland in March 2023.
The pair, and two others, were found guilty of hunting a wild mammal with dogs and trespass during a trial in December 2023.
Warrants for their arrests were later issued and they were sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates' Court on 29 May.
Lincolnshire Police said officers had been called out on Sunday 12 March 2023 to reports of four men hare coursing.
Witnesses reported seeing the men walking across fields with one driving a blue Daihatsu Terios 4x4 through newly planted crops.
Following a short chase, the four members of the group were arrested.
The pair were both individually fined £875 and ordered to pay £4929.83 compensation and a £350 victim surcharge.

The dogs - usually greyhounds, lurchers or salukis - are on a slip lead, threaded so it can be easily released
The dead hare is usually left in the field or thrown in a ditch
Hare coursing is illegal throughout the UK. The Hunting Act 2004, makes it an offence to hunt wild mammals with dogs

Family 'devastated' after goats stolen from farm

A family said it has been left "absolutely devastated" after two of its hand-reared goats were stolen. Emma Johnson, who lives at a farm in Dogdyke, Lincoln, said she noticed the goats, both called Fred, were gone on Thursday morning when it was "deadly silent". She said it felt like a "violation" and questioned whether "it's worth the risk" to continue keeping goats on the farm. Lincolnshire Police said it received a report of the goats "believed to have been stolen from a field" between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. She said the goats had been left outside on the night they were stolen due to the warm weather. She discovered they had both gone at about 06:00 BST on Thursday morning. "Big Fred had a bell and it was deadly silent. We knew something was going on because we couldn't hear it. "He usually stands at the gate in the morning for his breakfast. Fred Goat was also missing," she said. Ms Johnson said they had already increased security measures at the farm after another goat was taken three weeks before. Ms Johnson said: "We've got a toddler in the family who was absolutely in love with that white goat. "These are family pets so it's absolutely devastating." She added: "It's the afterthought of thinking someone has been walking on my property at night without me knowing. "That leaves a psychological scarring on you." A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "We received a report of two goats believed to have been stolen from a field at a property in Dogdyke sometime between 23:00 BST on 18 June and 06:00 on 19 June. "We would welcome any information that may assist our inquiries." Meanwhile, police have appealed for information after the remains of a number of sheep were found in the Boston area at Hobhole Bank on 14 June. They asked farmers to check their flocks to see if they had any livestock missing, particularly ewes and black headed rams. Motor trike accident leaves two in hospital

Police are trying to trace a group of bikers seen in the area shortly before a crash involving a car and a motor trike in southern Scotland. The accident happened on the A710 Dumfries to Dalbeattie road, near New Abbey, at about 16:25 on Friday. The riders of the trike - a 66-year-old man and 59-year-old woman - were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment. The occupants of the other vehicle involved, a red Fiat 500, were not injured. Boy and three men arrested after knife incident

Four people have been arrested following a violent incident in Knottingley. Police were called to Yew Tree Walk at about 18:50 BST on Friday, following reports of a dispute involving several males, one of whom was reported to have a bladed weapon. Officers said no injuries had been reported but a 24-year old man was arrested on suspicion of affray at the scene, with a 30-year old man arrested later, on suspicion of affray and possession with intent to supply drugs. West Yorkshire Police said a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were also later arrested on suspicion of affray. All four males remain in custody.
