How to watch SpaceX's ninth Starship flight test on Tuesday
The FAA last week cleared SpaceX's Starship to fly again after concluding its review of the previous flight, which ended in an explosion, and the next test could now take off as soon as Tuesday. SpaceX is eyeing May 27 for Starship's ninth flight test, with a launch window opening at 7:30PM ET (6:30PM local time for the Texas Starbase). This launch will mark the first time SpaceX reuses a Super Heavy booster; the booster for flight nine previously flew with Starship's seventh flight test earlier this year. While single-use parts have been replaced, SpaceX says it's reusing 29 of the booster's 33 Raptor engines.
As always, viewers at home will be able to watch along by tuning into the livestream, starting about 30 minutes before Starship launches. That will be available on SpaceX's website and in a broadcast on its X profile.
SpaceX conducted Starship's eighth flight test back in March, but the vehicle ran into some issues a few minutes after launch. The Super Heavy booster was able to return to the launch site after separation from the upper stage and be successfully caught by the tower's "chopstick" arms, but as for the ship itself, several Raptor engines shut off, causing it to tumble and ultimately blow itself up.
SpaceX says the issue was likely due to "a hardware failure in one of the upper stage's center Raptor engines that resulted in inadvertent propellant mixing and ignition." It's since made some changes to prevent that from happening again. SpaceX said in an update on May 22 that "engines on the Starship's upper stage will receive additional preload on key joints, a new nitrogen purge system, and improvements to the propellant drain system."
For flight nine, the Super Heavy booster won't return to the launch site, but will instead splash down in the ocean. The Starship upper stage will attempt to deploy eight Starlink dummy satellites, and SpaceX is otherwise looking to this flight to test "several experiments focused on enabling Starship's upper stage to return to the launch site."

Tesla stock rises premarket after robotaxi launch — but not as much as Elon Musk might like
Tesla stock posted modest gains in premarket trading on Monday following the long-awaited launch of its robotaxi services in Austin. The EV maker unveiled its robotaxi service on Sunday, giving small group of users in Austin access to the driverless rides for a flat $4.20 fee. Shares were more than 2% higher at almost $328 as of 8:55 a.m. ET. In a Monday note, analysts at UBS raised their target price on the stock by $25 to $215 while maintaining a "Sell" rating. "Recall, Elon Musk indicated that autonomy is one of two (along with humanoid robots) main drivers of the stock's long-term value. While Tesla appears to be well positioned, we believe the opportunity is already priced into the stock," they wrote. "We built out our robotaxi model and believe the opportunity is worth ~$99/share, which when considering other parts of TSLA's business, still leaves us cautious on TSLA's overall valuation." Musk teased the launch of the robotaxi earlier this month, showcasing a driverless Tesla Model Y emblazoned with the Cybertruck-style branding. "Beautifully simple design," he posted on X. The rollout follows years of Musk promising multiple times that the robotaxi was just around the corner. Meanwhile, competitors such as Alphabet's Waymo have already demonstrated their autonomous taxis in multiple cities. Lawmakers in Texas have been seeking tighter regulation of robotaxis, while some technical hurdles remain unresolved. Tesla stock has struggled this year, shedding almost 15% as of Friday's close, amid declining vehicle sales.

Tesla Stock Rises Following Robotaxi Service Launch
Tesla launched its autonomous vehicle service on Sunday, offering robotaxi rides to select investors and prominent social media fans. Several users posted online about their experiences in the driverless cars within a certain area of Austin, Texas. CEO Elon Musk has said the company plans to expand to more cities and a larger number of vehicles by the end of next (TSLA) shares rose in premarket trading Monday, a day after the electric vehicle maker launched its robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. The small-scale launch Sunday featured invites sent to Tesla retail investors and several people with social media accounts dedicated to the brand, Bloomberg reported. Tesla shares, which entered Monday trading down 20% since the start of the year, advanced roughly 1.5% less than an hour before the opening bell. Several users who took some of the first rides on Sunday posted about their experiences on X, the social media platform also owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who wrote that each ride cost a flat fee of $4.20. User videos indicated no one sat in the driver's seat, a Tesla employee was in the passenger seat to monitor the experience, and passengers sat in the back. Musk congratulated the Tesla team responsible for the software, and the EV maker compiled a thread of posts about the experience. The company also made a separate social media account specifically for the robotaxi service. The company hasn't revealed when the service will be available to the general public, but Musk has said in interviews that the plan is to start with 10 to 20 Model Y vehicles operating autonomously in Austin, and quickly expand to more cities and potentially hundreds of thousands of vehicles by the end of next year. Tesla is also planning to start production on its "Cybercab" robotaxi, with no steering wheel or pedals, next year. Some analysts, like Wedbush's Dan Ives, are especially bullish on what the dawn of autonomous vehicles could mean for Tesla's valuation, expecting robotaxis and self-driving software to double Tesla's market capitalization by the end of next year.
