Billy Joel says 'I'm not dying' after cancelling tour due to brain condition

Daily Record08-06-2025

The music legend's Murrayfield Stadium gig was due to take place on June 6, but was cancelled along with the rest of Joel's tour due to his health.
Billy Joel was forced to cancel his entire 2025 tour, having been diagnosed with a brain disorder known as normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). The star was due to take the stage at Murrayfield Stadium on June 6, a gig which had previously been postponed to give him time to recover from surgery.
The 'Uptown Girl' singer has been diagnosed with NPH, which is a condition that causes a build-up of fluid in the brain. The 76-year-old's team shared a statement with fans on May 23, apologising for the cancellation of his tour.

It said that his brain condition"has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.' And the singer added: "I am sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding.'

However, since then the star has been quiet, and was notably absent from the screening of his new documentary 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes' last Wednesday, June 4, at Tribeca Film Festival.
Despite his absence, he relayed a message to the crowd through the film's co-director, Susan Lacy.
'We know Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey that to you all.
"In fact, he said, 'Getting old sucks, but it's preferable to getting cremated,'' Lacy told the audience, reported Deadline.
He also assured his fans that 'he will be back.'

The two founders of Tribeca Film Festival- Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal- also acknowledged Joel's health condition and absence.
Rosenthal said: 'Billy wanted to be with us tonight, but as you may have heard, he's dealing with a health issue and had to postpone his performances, including this one tonight.

"We know you will join us in wishing him a speedy recovery.'
De Niro added: 'He's our piano man, a wonderful, integral part of the heartbeat of our city.
"Tonight, we get to see the man behind the music and behind the legend. You're in for a real treat.'

According to outlet NJ, radio host Howard Stern recently had a conversation with Billy Joel, in which the star urged him to let fans know that he 'is not dying'.
During a recent episode of The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM, Stern discussed a recent dinner he had with Joel.
Stern said: 'He does have issues. But he said to me- so I'm not saying anything crazy- 'Yeah, you can tell people: I'm not dying.' He wants people to know that.
"He's got to deal with some medical stuff. But he was delightful. We had a great time with the wives. Billy's doing okay.'

Meghan Markle's brand As Ever sells out in minutes but fans are skeptical

Some fans have accused the Duchess of playing the 'sold out' game with her products. Meghan Markle took to social media to share her delight as her As Ever products once again sold out in minutes. However, some fans are sceptical - with some suggesting the Duchess of Sussex is playing the 'sold out' game. In an Instagram story shared yesterday, Meghan could be seen telling her followers that she 'couldn't believe' that nearly all of her items had sold out - even the flower sprinkles which she said she knew would be a hit once again with customers. ‌ She said that her team at As Ever 'spent time' making sure they had enough stock for the new sale, so customers could get their hands on a new honey and an apricot spread. ‌ On top of this, the Duchess also did a restock of six items from her initial sale, which was said to 'fly off the shelves' two months ago. In the post, the mum of two said: "We spent so much time making sure we had so much more inventory. That's why we took the time and you guys are doing it again. We are nearly sold out on everything. '"And I can't believe it - even flower sprinkles which I knew would be the big one again. So that has more inventory than all of it and that is also about to sell out." While many fans may have been waiting in anticipation of the restock and new products, others were a bit more dubious about how quickly the stock was said to have sold out on Friday. On social media, one person said: "She is playing the 'sold out' game and thinking we are all stupid. You fool no one Meghan Markle." ‌ With a second person adding: "Wait the only new thing she dropped was the apricot spread. And it sold out after 20 mins. Meghan must think people are really stupid." A third user also commented: "Wow they have super small quantities. The apricot and tea already sold out." ‌ While fans noticed the new apricot spread and honey within yesterday's sale, those waiting for Meghan's new Napa Valley rose wine will need to wait until July 1 for it to be available. This rose is Meghan's first step into the wine market and the wine is said to be sourced up the west coast from her Montecito mansion in California. Described by her brand as having "soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish", this "bespoke blend" is said to be launching just in time for some summer entertaining. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In Meghan's first sale, she launched nine As Ever products, which included a raspberry spread that came in a keepsake packaging or in a normal jar, flower sprinkles, wildflower honey with honeycomb, a crepe mix, a shortbread cookie mix and three herbal teas - lemon ginger, peppermint and hibiscus. All of these products were said to have sold out in 45 minutes after their initial release. For the restock, the Duchess brought back the three herbal teas, the flower sprinkles, crepe mix and shortbread cookie mix. Before Friday's sale, Meghan said: "We are pleased to share that many favourites from our debut As Ever collection are back – and, we've added something new. We hope you find some special treats that bring extra joy to you and your loved ones."

Jack Betts brought so much to the screen — from gritty westerns to comic book charm." A third added: "Jack Betts from One Life to Live who played Dr. Ivan Kipling has passed away at the age of 96. Despite becoming a star over the years for his TV appearances and films, Jack's films at that time did not air in the US or Canada which meant he found finding fame more difficult in those countries. Landing a string of Westerns at the time, Jack said Clint Eastwood was even his neighbour at one point. He told The Dev Show in 2021: "In the hotel next to mine was Clint Eastwood. He'd go up to his mountain and do his Western and I'd go up to my mountain and do my Western. But while his films had distribution all over the world, my films were distributed [everywhere] except Canada and America."
