Netflix Lands Hot Action Comedy Package Teaming Andy Samberg & Jason Momoa

In a highly competitive situation, involving offers from both studios and streamers, Netflix has landed the pitch for a two-hander action comedy to star A Minecraft Movie's Jason Momoa and SNL alum Andy Samberg.

We hear the currently untitled film is set in Momoa's native Hawaii, though further details as to the plot are under wraps. Samberg's Party Over Here and Momoa's On The Roam will produce. The script will be written by a pair of highly decorated SNL alums: 11x Emmy nominee Rob Klein and eight-time nominee John Solomon. No word yet on who will direct.
Momoa is riding high on the success of A Minecraft Movie, the Warner Bros/Legendary film which secured the biggest opening ever for a video game adaptation, breathing life into the global box office with a worldwide gross exceeding $948 million. Highly in demand as ever, his upcoming slate includes Amazon's action comedy The Wrecking Crew, where he stars opposite Dave Bautista, as well as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, where he fulfills his longtime ambition to play intergalactic alien Lobo. On August 1, he unveils Chief of War, the Apple historical epic he co-created with Thomas Pa'a Sibbett, in which he also stars. Then, there's Animal Friends, a live-action/animated road trip action comedy, where he stars alongside Ryan Reynolds, Aubrey Plaza, and Vince Vaughn. We were first to report on the Warner Bros/Legendary title, which opens October 10. Next up, Momoa will reprise his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune 3, which rolls cameras in July.
An Emmy and Golden Globe winner, Samberg will next be seen starring alongside Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch in Jay Roach's The Roses, a remake of the classic 1989 dark comedy The War of the Roses that Searchlight releases August 29. This past fall, he returned to Studio 8H for SNL's 50th season, portraying Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff opposite Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris. He also starred in three new The Lonely Island digital shorts, and performed alongside Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny and Eddie Vedder in a musical medley for SNL50: The Homecoming Concert. He starred opposite Kate Winslet in the recent war correspondent drama Lee and launched a new podcast with Seth Meyers, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers Podcast, last spring.

Diocese of Buffalo addresses parishioners' concerns amid settlement

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Leaders within the Diocese of Buffalo are addressing parishioners' concerns after many have spoken out against having their parish pay into the clergy sex abuse settlement. Parishes throughout the Diocese have to contribute between 10 to 80 percent of unrestricted assets for a combined total of $80 million toward the $150 million settlement, which has upset many Catholics. Parishes in Buffalo to contribute millions of dollars to sexual abuse settlement 'We understand their recoil, that some may be outraged, but again, this is not something that is solely the responsibility of clergy members,' said Richard Suchan, the Diocese of Buffalo's CEO. 'It involves teachers, it involves employees and volunteers of parishes and schools, in addition to other organizations and schools. It does become our responsibility as a church to fulfill this obligation.' WIVB News 4 did a sit down interview with Suchan to bring parishioner concerns directly to leaders in the Diocese. Many parishioners are upset that their donations to their parish could now be going toward the settlement. Suchan said they are not using prepaid tuition payments or donations that were given for a specific purpose. He said donations made during mass are considered an unrestricted gift, meaning those donations could be used toward the settlement, but Suchan said those funds usually go toward operating costs to maintain a parish. Some parishioners reached out to News 4 and said they want to know how the Diocese calculated what each parish will pay. Some Catholics wanted to know why their parish was paying more than other parishes. When deciding how much each parish will contribute to the settlement, Suchan said they took into consideration how much a parish makes, saying the more a parish makes, the more it will pay. 'I was shocked': Parishioners left shaken as parishes pay millions toward sexual abuse settlement He said the same formula was used with each parish and emphasized each parishes' finances were calculated the same way. Astroworld is back in the spotlight and survivors are sharing haunting stories on TikTok

Astroworld is back in the news, and social media has some thoughts. In November 2021, a deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival claimed the lives of 10 people. The then-annual event, held in the rapper's hometown of Houston, became one of the worst concert tragedies in U.S. history. It is now the subject of the new Netflix documentary Trainwreck: The Astroworld Tragedy. With renewed interest in the incident, survivors have taken to social media to share their own footage from the event. 'Only if I knew bro,' one attendee posted on TikTok over footage of himself in the crowd. The audio accompanying the clip is taken from the documentary: 'It started getting pretty hectic,' one survivor says. 'I'm like 'Oh my god I can't take a deep breath,'' adds another. 'Since everyone else is sharing their Astroworld experience,' another TikTok user wrote in the caption of a clip, which shows him tightly packed in the crowd as Scott performs. 'Not too long after this I got bumped into due to the crowd swaying and ended up falling on top of someone in the fetal position,' he wrote. 'We ended up getting out but man it was a struggle.' In other horrifying footage, the panicking audience can be heard calling for help. 'I've never posted this video before, rest in peace to all innocent lives lost,' the closed captions read over the video. Even before Scott took the stage, the crowd seemed to sense something was wrong. 'We are gonna die,' one attendee 'jokes' in a clip, now with 10.3 million views, filming the unsafe conditions. 'Saying this as a joke but on the inside this was a real feeling,' she wrote in the closed captions. 'This about to be bad when it starts,' another can be heard saying. 'Bro literally called it,' the captions add. 'I believe Astroworld 2021 was not an accident,' crowd safety expert Scott Davidson says in the documentary. 'It was an inevitability due to the lack of foresight and the abandonment of basic safety protocols.' Nearly 5,000 people were injured as a result of the crush. The Netflix documentary, which premiered on June 10, features interviews with several survivors. In total, 10 people lost their lives: Axel Acosta, Danish Baig, Rudy Peña, Madison Dubiski, Franco Patiño, Jacob Jurinek, John Hilgert, Bharti Shahani, Brianna Rodriguez, and Ezra Blount, who was just nine years old.

Netflix real estate agent Sara Burack killed in Hamptons hit-and-run

NEW YORK — Netflix star Sara Burack, best known as a luxury real estate agent who appeared on 'Million Dollar Beach House,' has died at age 40 in a Hamptons Bay hit-and-run. Burack was discovered lying unconscious on the side of Montauk Highway, near Villa Paul Restaurant, at around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers found her with serious injuries indicating she'd been hit by a car, according to Southampton Town Police. She was immediately rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she died that afternoon, confirmed her friend and fellow real estate agent Paulette Orlando-Corsair. Orlando-Corsair said Burack suffered severe injuries to her head, brain and liver, as well as a broken leg. Police on Friday were still on the hunt for the driver, who fled the scene of the crash, as well as for information on the vehicle involved. Authorities have asked the public to come forward with any leads that can help identify the suspect. Burack lived in Southampton and was a successful broker and former agent with Nest Seekers International, a luxury firm with offices in New York City, the Hamptons, Connecticut and New Jersey. 'My family has a commercial construction material sales business that I spent many years of my life working for,' Burack told in 2020. 'I have always been intrigued by real estate projects and decided to become a broker after my experience as a summer property manager in the summer house I would rent.' 'I have been spending half the year in the Hamptons for the past 11 years,' she added. 'It was only natural to turn my love for real estate into a blossoming career.' Burack starred on the reality series 'Million Dollar Beach House' in 2020. The show followed a group of young and hungry real estate agents as they competed to seal the deal on luxury listings in the Hamptons. Burack is survived by her parents, sister and brother-in-law.
