Hospital launches advanced 3D mammography system
New Delhi: Dharamshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital launched an advanced 3D mammography system on Thursday to commemorate the Cancer Survivor Month. During the inauguration ceremony, attended by chief minister Rekha Gupta as the chief guest, the hospital launched a comprehensive free women's health cancer screening programme and implemented the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
The newly installed 3D mammography equipment provides accurate, efficient breast screenings with minimal radiation exposure. This technology enables early detection of abnormalities, making cancer screening accessible to women across economic sections, thereby reducing instances of late-stage breast cancer diagnoses.
During the mammography unit launch, the chief minister said that "this unit is specially designed for the early detection of breast cancer in women, enabling timely treatment.
Equipped with fully digital technology, the unit ensures quick and accurate diagnosis using the latest medical equipment." She added that "cancer is a disease that causes emotional turmoil for entire families when it strikes. However, advancements in medical science today have made early detection and effective treatment possible.

Speaking at the event, Dr Emmanuel Rupert, managing director and Group CEO of Narayana Health, explained the significance of the new initiatives. He outlined the screening programme offering 5,000 free pap smear tests and 5,000 free mammography screenings, alongside clinical breast examinations, cervical cancer screening, and lifestyle counselling for underprivileged women and Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries.
He also mentioned the introduction of a mobile diagnostic unit providing mammograms and laboratory tests to underserved areas in Delhi. TNN

Bangalore University set to give life and health insurances to students on Jnana Bharati campus
In a unique move, Bangalore University has decided to provide life insurance and health insurance to all students studying on its Jnana Bharathi campus. A decision to this effect was taken in the recent syndicate meeting of the university. The decision will be implemented from the academic year 2025-26. There are a total of 54 departments related to various undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs, and more than 4,000 students, on the Jnana Bharathi campus. Additionally, the syndicate has directed that all students of the university's affiliated colleges should be registered for insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Suraksha Yojana. Why the initiative Most students studying at Bangalore University are from rural areas and belong to economically and socially weaker sections. Two major roads pass through the Jnana Bharathi campus: one from Mysuru Road towards Ullal and the other from Nagarbavi towards Kengeri. These roads are consistently congested with traffic, and accidents are frequent; as a result, students are often injured in these incidents. A postgraduate student died in a bus accident two years ago. When any such accident occurs, compensation is provided to the students and their parents from the university's funds, which the insurance will now cover. Decision in 2017 Bangalore University had decided to provide health insurance to all its students in 2017. It had also formed an expert committee in this regard. The committee had discussed and submitted a report on the total premium amount of health insurance, including the student's share and the university's share. But it was not implemented. However, there was a demand from students for health insurance. Students were registered under the 'Ayushman Bharat' scheme in 2024-25, and Ayushman cards were issued. However, as there is limited coverage under this scheme, the university has decided to provide additional life insurance and health insurance facilities for improved coverage. Speaking to The Hindu, M.S. Jayakara, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said, 'Most of our students are from economically weaker families. They are not able to afford life insurance and health insurance. Till now, compensation has been provided from the university's accumulated fund, which has become a burden. In this context, it has been decided to provide insurance facilities to all students.' Implementation The university has decided to include the insurance premium amount with the annual fees paid by students. 'I have instructed the finance officers to discuss and report on the insurance amount to be fixed for students. The insurance scheme will be implemented without burdening the students by getting assistance from the State government too,' said Dr. Jayakara. Students welcome move Students have welcomed the initiative, but requested that the insurance premium should not be a burden on them. 'Our university's decision to provide insurance facilities for the safety of students is commendable. However, students should not be burdened with the insurance premium. It would be better if the university itself pays most of the premium amount, or even makes it free of cost,' said Sinchana, a postgraduate student.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta leads International Yoga Day event along Yamuna Ghat
Written By Drishti Jain On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed yoga with other participants at the Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club along the Yamuna Ghat early on Saturday. As part of 'Yoga With Yamuna,' children performed yoga in the middle of the river, while others kayaked bearing Indian flags. The event was among the 11 programmes being conducted across Delhi on the occasion. Speaking about her experience, the chief minister said, 'I get reminded of my duties whenever I see the Yamuna. In an attempt to keep the Yamuna clean throughout Delhi, we have removed almost 1,000 tonnes of water hyacinth from it with the help of drones (launched as a pilot project) with help of the water department.' Gupta added that there are plans to run cruises along the river. She also hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'giving Yoga Day to the world' and for giving periodic reminders to lead a healthy life. Minister of Tourism Kapil Mishra, who was present at the event, said it was the first official yoga programme held by the government after many years. Meanwhile, taking a dig at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, MP Manoj Tiwari said, 'I fully trust the present ruling party. They will make Yamuna clean and healthy again.' Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and Delhi chief secretary Dharmendra Kumar were also present. Before the yoga session began, PM Modi's speech from Visakhapatnam was telecast live on multiple screens at the venue. 'The whole world knows us today because of yoga,' said Balveer Singh Chauhan, 52, a resident of Soniya Vihar who performed yoga among the other participants. He said that doing yoga even for 15 minutes daily can keep your mind and soul calm. Dr Sangeeta Chaudhary, 52, who sat near Chauhan, said it was good to celebrate Yoga Day on such a large scale. 'Performing yoga should be a must for people who are above 40. I believe yoga camps should be held monthly,' she added.
