Hypercar, LMDh rules extended to 2032 in WEC
The lifecycle of the current generation of Le Mans Hypercar and LMDh prototypes has been extended until 2032 in the World Endurance Championship.
The move, predicted by Motorsport.com in April, means that the LMH formula is set to span 12 years following its 2021 introduction and LMDh 10 years, and follows on the two-year extension announced this time last year.

Confirmation of the plans was made by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and FIA at the traditional press conference hosted by the former organisation on the eve of the Le Mans 24 Hours WEC round.
ACO president Pierre Fillon said: 'It is important to give the manufacturers and the audience a signal of stability - we need to show that this platform is sustainable and strong.
'We are guided by two principles, stability and cost control, which is why together with the FIA we have decided to extend the rules until the end of 2032.
'Giving the manufacturers a chance to get a return on their investment was the target for us.'

The rules extension, which was rubber stamped by this week's FIA World Motor Sport Council in Macau, was announced only in broad principles.

Fillon explained that the 'practicalities need to be discussed' and that they 'will be worked out by the end of the year'.
ACO technical director Thierry Bouvet would not be drawn whether there will be any attempt to remove any of the differences between LMH and LMDh cars in the WEC's Hypercar class.
At the same time, IMSA confirmed what it terms its strategic alliance with the ACO until the end of 2032, which suggests it could follow the lead taken for the WEC in extending the rules for what it calls the GTP class.
Hypercars now eligible for Asian Le Mans
Hypercar class contenders driven by pro-am crews will be eligible to race in the Asian Le Mans Series from the start of the 2026-27 season.

An influx of LMH and LMDh machinery will create a new top-class in the series jointly run by the ACO and GT racing boss Stephane Ratel.
It will sit above the LMP2 and P3 prototype classes and the GT class for GT3 machinery, which predates the introduction of LMGT3 in the WEC in 2023.
Ratel explained that the move has been the result of interest from manufacturers, teams and drivers.

'Interest in sportscar racing is growing in Asia: we see that in the grids for Asian LMS and the GT World Challenge Asia [which Ratel's eponymous organisation runs],' he said.
'We believe there is the possibility to attract some Asian teams and drivers; for sure there are teams whose clients are interested.

'We know we are not going to get a grid of 20 Hypercars, but I think something like six is possible in the first year.'
LMP2 tenders decided
French constructors ORECA and Ligier will build the next generation of LMP2 chassis due to come on stream in 2028.
They came out on top in the tender process initiated by the FIA, together with the ACO and IMSA, in March.
One other constructor that is known to have bid for the right to build LMP2 machinery was the relaunched Lola brand.

The tender called for just two manufacturers to be licensed to produce P2 machinery rather than the four of the current formula introduced in 2017.

ORECA and Ligier were joined by Dallara and Multimatic/Riley, though P2 has become a de facto one-make formula for ORECA.
Gibson will continue as the engine supplier for the new generation of P2 car.
The new engine will be a direct-injection twin-turbo V6, as per the tender, and capable of producing 420kW (560bhp) and running 14,000km between full rebuilds.
The latest Gibson powerplant replaces the existing normally-aspirated V8 used in all LMP2 chassis.

Veteran Mechanic Walks Into O'Reilly Auto Parts. Then He Reveals the No. 1 Product You Should Never Buy There
A mechanic says you should think twice before grabbing this supposedly easy and affordable fix off the shelf because it could end up costing you a lot more in the end. It's getting hot out, and your AC is barely blowing cool air. You're on a budget and want to DIY a solution. So you go buy an AC refrigerant kit from your local auto parts store. Get the best news, reviews, columns, and more delivered straight to your inbox, daily. back Sign up For more information, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use . It's tempting, but there are some good reasons why you should avoid these kits. Seasoned mechanic Sherwood Cooke Jr. (@ recently posted a TikTok warning people against using AC refrigerant kits. In the video, he goes into an O'Reilly Auto Parts store and locates the kits. These kits include a can of refrigerant, a charging hose, and a pressure gauge. Cooke says you should 'never' buy one. As of this writing, Cooke's TikTok has 267,000 views. His advice has people feeling conflicted. Why Shouldn't You Use These Kits? Cooke points out a few reasons why you should steer clear of AC refrigerant kits. Both of the brands he picked up advertised leak sealer. Cooke says you want to avoid this at all costs because it'll start 'gumming things up' and could damage the components in the AC, like the compressor, dryer, and condenser. Trending Now 963 RSP Revealed: Meet Porsche's Street-Legal Le Mans Hypercar 'Doesn't Even Smell Like Gas': Texas Man Drives Volkswagen to 76 Gas Station. Then He Realizes He Filled Up On a Mystery Liquid Cooke says that using one of these kits could ultimately cause damage to the tool a mechanic uses when fixing your AC. The canned refrigerant can get sucked into their professional grade tools, he explains. Cooke says that some mechanic shops won't even risk hooking their machine up to a car if they know you used one of these kits. According to Cooke, these kits don't really work on leaks, either. 'It's just not gonna fix a big leak on your car, it's just not gonna work,' he says. Even if your vehicle has a small o-ring, he says it's better to replace it than use the sealer. He also claims that the kits don't fully charge your vehicle's system. The professional process includes evacuating what's in the car to then refill it, he says, and constantly keeping track of the refrigerant tank weight to know how much refrigerant is going in. While he acknowledges that the kits might make your air conditioning colder, Cooke says, 'You're never gonna get the right amount. I will assure you it's a total guess.' 'I couldn't do it, I mean no professional can do it, and we've been doing it for a long time, there's no way that you're going to be able to do it as a DIYer,' he adds. Cooke further notes that the tool in these kits uses pressure to measure how much coolant is needed. He says that not only is the green 'filled' area on the gauge in the kits a large range, but using pressure as a measurement at all is flawed because conditions like the outside temperature, outside humidity, and temperature under the hood plays a huge part in what the pressure should be in the system. That's why he says you should never use an AC refrigerant kit. How Much Do Pros Charge to Recharge AC? At the mechanic, it'll typically cost you $150 to $300 to recharge your air conditioning, AutoZone reports . There is no set schedule for how often this service is needed. You simply take it in when you start to notice a decrease in your car's cooling power. 'These costs are generally not that expensive when considering that this maintenance also extends the life of your compressor, keeping your air conditioning performing optimally season after season,' AutoZone adds. AC Kits Get Mixed Reviews People were conflicted by Cooke's advice. 'I used one of these back in 2020 and it still blows ice cold to this day,' a top comment read. 'In a new car probably a old beater hell yes!!' another chimed in. 'As a former diesel mechanic, that worked in a shop and recharged AC systems in a controlled environment,' another wrote. 'I personally don't think they should sell that over-the-counter, because it is extremely dangerous!' 'I made this mistake not knowing anything about AC systems on cars. Replaced a gross leaking hose and 'charged' my system. 2 months later it cost me $4500 for a new AC system,' a commenter shared. World Endurance Championship announces 2026 schedule
The FIA World Endurance Championship has announced its 2026 schedule, which will be made up of the same venues as in 2025. Capitalizing on the momentum of 750,000 fans that attended events in these eight rounds, there was little reason to alter the schedule, which will begin with Round 1 in Qatar, March 26 - 28, 2026. The 2026 calendar comprises five regions: Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. 'We are pleased to present our 2026 FIA WEC calendar, which reflects the series' success by building upon a winning formula and format,' said Frédéric Lequien, CEO, FIA World Endurance Championship in a news release. 'All eight events have established themselves as firm favourites amongst competitors and fans. Every circuit offers its own unique characteristics and challenges – and invariably brings out the best from our incredible drivers, cars and teams. We look forward to continuing to put on a thrilling show all around the world! The highlight of the schedule will continue to be the 24 Hours of Le Mans, June 10 - 14. Four six-hour races will be held at Imola (April 17 - 19), Spa-Francorchamps (May 7 - 9), Sao Paulo (July 10 - 12), and Mount Fuji, Japan (September 25 - 27). The Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, returns to the schedule on September 4 - 6 for the Lone Star Le Mans. WEC will conclude their season with an eight-hour race in Bahrain, November 5 - 7. 'After a period of expansion, including the addition of an eighth round in 2024, the FIA World Endurance Championship enters a phase of consolidation and stability with next season's calendar,' said Richard Mille, President, FIA Endurance Commission. 'The schedule continues to feature world-class circuits across key regions, striking the right balance between global exposure for manufacturers and the need to keep participation costs at a reasonable level. This stability lays a strong foundation for the continued success of the Hypercar class and supports the sustained growth of the world's premier endurance racing series.' 2026 WEC Schedule March 26 - 28: Qatar 1812 Kilometers (1,126 miles) April 17 - 19: 6 Hours of Imola May 7 - 9: 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps June 10 - 14: 24 Hours of Le Mans July 10 - 12: 6 Hours of Sao Paulo September 4 - 6: Lone Star Le Mans September 25 - 27: 6 Hours of Fuji November 5 - 7: 8 Hours of Bahrain

Mercedes F1 Team Boss Laughs Off Red Bull's Canadian GP Protest: "Embarrassing!"
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has ridiculed Red Bull's protest, which challenged George Russell's maiden victory of the 2025 season in Canada. Wolff called it an "embarrassing" attempt by Red Bull to influence the race result. Russell dominated the Canadian Grand Prix after starting from pole position and defended the position from Max Verstappen, who came second. Towards the end of the race, Verstappen closed the gap to Russell after they had lapped several cars, but Russell held his ground. A safety car in the closing stages ensured Russell crossed the finish line first. However, two hours after the race, Red Bull launched two protests related to the way Russell drove behind the safety car. George Russell of Great Britain and Mercedes is congratulated by Mercedes CEO and Team Principal Toto Wolff in parc ferme during the F1 Grand Prix of Bahrain at Bahrain International Circuit on April 13, 2025... George Russell of Great Britain and Mercedes is congratulated by Mercedes CEO and Team Principal Toto Wolff in parc ferme during the F1 Grand Prix of Bahrain at Bahrain International Circuit on April 13, 2025 in Bahrain, Bahrain. MoreThe Milton Keynes-based team alleged that Russell's conduct behind the safety car was erratic and inappropriate. However, after hearing both parties and taking into consideration all the evidence, the FIA stewards cleared Russell of any wrongdoing after several hours. The race result remained uncertain until that point. Wolff offered his views on the "petty" matter at the launch of the F1 movie in New York. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It took Red Bull Racing two hours before they launched the protest, so that was their doing. Honestly, it's so petty and so small. They come up with some weird clauses, what they call clauses. "I guess the FIA needs to look at that because it's so far-fetched it was rejected. You race, you win and you lose on track. That was a fair victory for us, like so many they had in the past. And it's just embarrassing." However, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitted that he had no regrets about the protest. He said: "It's a team's right to do so. We saw something we didn't think was quite right. "You have the ability to put it in front of the stewards and so that's what we chose to do. Absolutely no regrets in that." Speaking of Russell, the 27-year-old driver is left without an F1 seat for 2026 since Mercedes has yet to confirm him as their driver for next year. Rumors suggest that Aston Martin is keen on signing him for the new campaign. However, considering the support Russell received from Mercedes since he was a junior driver, he made it clear that he intends to stay with his current team. He said: "No, I'm not talking with anybody else and any teams who have shown interest. I have been quite open to say my intentions are to stay with Mercedes. That's always been clear. "And, you know, I am loyal to Mercedes. They gave me this chance to get into Formula 1." He added: "But ultimately there are two seats for every race team and I knew if I continued to perform as I'm doing, my position would not be under threat whatsoever. So, I feel in a good place. We're in no rush to do contract negotiations." Related: Toto Wolff Hints George Russell Mercedes F1 Contract Renewal Incoming
