PATNA: Independent MP from Purnia, Pappu Yadav, asserted on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party lacks the capability to secure electoral victories independently in India. He further stated that the
BJP
would be unable to pose a significant challenge to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee during elections, and consequently cannot establish a government in the state.
"Iss janam mein BJP Bengal mein success nahi ho sakti, Mamata Banerjee ko challenge nahi kar sakti (BJP cannot succeed in Bengal in this life, it cannot challenge Mamata Banerjee). The BJP can never win elections alone in India. They can win only by keeping a gun on someone's shoulder. Wherever the BJP will not form the government, it wants to rule under President's rule," Pappu Yadav said.
In response to BJP's assertion about forming the government in West Bengal in the 2026 assembly elections, tensions have escalated.

This will be the future of other Hindus who are staying in other parts of the state, who are thinking this problem is limited to Murshidabad. I want to ask about the whereabouts of the so-called intellectuals of Kolkata," Majumdar said.
On April 11, unrest erupted in the Muslim-dominated Murshidabad district during demonstrations opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
The situation intensified, resulting in two fatalities, numerous injuries, and destruction of property, compelling thousands of residents to abandon their dwellings in search of secure locations.
The demonstrations against the Waqf (Amendment) Act extended to additional districts, including Malda, South 24 Parganas, and Hooghly, where incidents of fire-setting, stone-throwing, and road barriers occurred.
In the aftermath of the unrest, numerous families abandoned their residences. A significant number relocated to the Pakur district in Jharkhand, whilst others found shelter in relief facilities established in Malda.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed yoga on the banks of the Yamuna river on Saturday, the annual International Yoga Day, accompanied by Cabinet colleague Kapil Mishra, North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, senior officials, and several schoolchildren. Speaking to mediapersons after the event in Sonia Vihar, the CM said she had chosen the spot to show the public that the river was cleaner now as her government has been continuously working to make it pollution-free. 'Message for public' 'Decentralising sewage treatment plants (STPs), laying new sewer lines and water pipelines… whatever is needed to clean the river, we are consistently doing it. By performing yoga here, we want to give a message to the people of Delhi that Yamuna is getting cleaner,' she said. Cleaning the Yamuna was one of the poll promises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly election. Ms. Gupta said a total of 303 drainage projects, with an estimated cost of ₹8,000 crore, are under way. 'These include redevelopment of major drains, installation of modern water pumps, desilting drains, expansion of stormwater drainage system and scientific drainage network management,' she said. Ms. Gupta said that the Yamuna had been Delhi's identity, as the city was established along the banks of the river. 'We are working sincerely to clean the river. This [Sonia Vihar] stretch of the river is clean. We will clean the remaining stretches also,' she said. She said that thousands of tonnes of water hyacinth had been removed from the river using advanced technology. 'A cruise service is also being planned on Yamuna,' she added. Hitting out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress governments, the CM said, 'Over the years, the city has seen many governments, but they did nothing for Maa Yamuna.' Ms. Gupta said yoga should not be treated as a one-day event, and people should incorporate it into their daily routine. She added that it was due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that yoga today is being celebrated globally. 'Be it the promotion of millet, reducing oil consumption or advocating yoga, PM Modi has consistently encouraged citizens towards a healthy life,' she added. 'Deeply inspiring' 'Witnessing youngsters perform yoga on boats was a deeply inspiring sight,' she said, adding that it was for the first time that such a grand celebration was organised by the Delhi government with more than 20,000 people in attendance across the city, 'creating a new milestone'.

DU issues apology over UG admission form error

Delhi University (DU) issued an apology on Saturday regarding an 'inadvertent error' in its undergraduate admission form earlier this week, where names of communities and religions appeared in the language section, drawing criticism from teachers who termed it 'insensitive' and 'embarrassing'. Teachers who were critical of the move pointed out that Urdu had not been included in the UG admissions form, but 'Muslim', 'Hindu', and 'Bihari' were listed under the languages section. West Bengal BJP worker found dead

KOLKATA A BJP worker, Sheikh Bakibulla, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his home in Goghat in Hooghly district on Saturday, sparking political tensions in the area. The BJP has alleged that the death was not a suicide but a 'political murder'. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem and initiated a probe. 'In this specific case at Goghat police station, an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (murder),' a high-ranking official of the West Bengal police told The Hindu.
