Kota Kinabalu: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today paid a courtesy call on Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Sunday. Anwar arrived at the palace at around 11am, shortly after the special aircraft carrying him landed at Terminal Two of Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 10.35am to begin a one-day working visit to the state. He signed the guest book before holding a four-eyed meeting with Musa in the Special Visitors' Hall. This was Anwar's first courtesy call on Musa since his appointment as the new Sabah Governor in January. Anwar said he did not discuss the possible dissolution of the Sabah Legislative Assembly during his meeting. He said the decision rests solely with the Governor and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. 'The meeting focused primarily on Sabah's development and strengthening cooperation between the state and federal governments,' he said. Anwar said the discussions covered various sectors, including oil, and took into account input from state leaders with the aim of addressing key concerns and identifying areas for improvement. The half-hour meeting concluded with a luncheon in the palace's dining hall. After the meeting at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Anwar proceeded to Tawau to officiate the Closing Ceremony of the Sabah Madani Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at Dataran Majlis Perbandaran Tawau. Kota Kinabalu: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has clarified that the name 'Sisters in Islam' is not officially used in the registration of SIS Forum Malaysia, a company limited by guarantee (CLBG) registered under the Companies Act 2016. Commenting on the recent Federal Court decision involving Sisters in Islam (SIS) and the 2014 Selangor fatwa that labelled beliefs in liberalism and religious pluralism as deviant from Islamic teachings, Armizan said the group was registered in 1993 under the name SIS Forum (Malaysia), not Sisters in Islam. 'The registration does not include the word 'Islam' and is therefore not subject to the specific naming restrictions under the Companies Act. 'Under existing guidelines, words like 'Islam' are considered sensitive and applications to use such terms must be referred to relevant authorities, such as Jakim,' he said. He explained that in SIS Forum's case, since the word 'Islam' was not part of the legal entity's name, the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) did not seek Jakim's views during registration. 'Our jurisdiction is limited to compliance with the Companies Act. Since the name used is SIS Forum Malaysia, there was no basis to trigger referral protocols,' he said. Advertisement The Federal Court ruling on June 19 partially invalidated the Selangor fatwa, stating that it could not be applied to SIS as a legal entity, though individuals within or associated with the group who hold certain beliefs may still fall under the fatwa's scope. Armizan was met during the launch of the Business Digitalisation Programme 2025 (PPP25) at UMS on Saturday. The initiative carried out by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) aims to help B40 entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners embrace digital tools for growth and market expansion. The Sabah leg marks the first of three in the series for the year, with Penang and Terengganu to follow. The initiative highlights the use of social media and e-commerce to boost operational efficiency, productivity, and product quality. During the programme, SSM also distributed RM107,518 in corporate zakat and RM45,000 in CSR aid to underprivileged groups in Sabah. Meanwhile, SSM statistics show that 77,546 companies and 1,676 LLPs have been registered in Sabah as of 31 May 2025, with over 31,000 active entities. PM Anwar: Embrace diversity as strength, not source of division

He said that in many other countries, such diversity has led to racial and religious hostility, eventually burdening the nation and negatively affecting the people. 'Unity within our multiracial society is increasingly essential to ensure that Malaysia remains strong amid the current uncertain global geopolitical landscape. 'Never underestimate the potential problems if you are disunited. The geopolitical conditions are so challenging and alarming. The future is never certain. But what we can ensure is a united Malaysia,' he said. Anwar was speaking at the 2025 Sarawak-level Gawai Dayak celebration dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last night, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. 'So I told him (Ryan) about Sarawak, about the beauty of the culture, that's what we have to do. And I take great pride as a Malaysian to speak to one of the great multi-billion dollar companies, probably one of the biggest oil companies in the world and number one in the United States,' he said. Meanwhile, Anwar also announced that he will meet with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto this Friday to discuss a proposal for Sarawak to be positioned as a hub for the ASEAN Power Grid (APG). Anwar calls on Sarawak PKR to strengthen party's grassroots

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged the Sarawak leadership line-up to continue strengthening the party's grassroots following the recent party elections in May. The Prime Minister said PKR's grassroots strength must be embraced, reminding those who won in the election not to be arrogant but instead to work together with all parties, including those who lost. 'Each of us has our own role and strength to continue serving the people. 'Building the party in the Land of the Hornbills is no easy feat, but with collective determination, KEADILAN can certainly establish a firm footing,' he said in a Facebook post after a meeting with the Sarawak PKR Leadership Council yesterday. Anwar added that the mandate given to the leadership was not an absolute right, but a major responsibility that must be carried out with honesty and sincerity. 'Power and position are not licences for comfort or abuse of trust. All leaders must uphold integrity, be transparent in their actions, and always prioritise the people's interests,' he said.
