Oil Storage Facility Fire: Division 1 Firefighting Operations Completed
JOHOR BAHRU, June 22 (Bernama) -- Firefighting operations in Division 1, following a fire involving a lorry and an engine oil storage facility on Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, were completed at 4 am today.
Johor Zone 1 chief, Senior Fire Superintendent I Zaipulbahri Mat Rusok said that firefighting efforts in Division 2 were still ongoing due to challenges posed by numerous large oil drums obstructing access, making it difficult for firefighters to reach the source of the fire.
'The operation involves the use of three 700-foot water hoses, three water jets, fire hydrants, and machinery pumps,' he said in a statement today.
He added that firefighting operations are continuing today.
Meanwhile, he said the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) team, which was deployed to the scene at around 11.40 last night, detected a small amount of sulphur in the air.
However, he said the readings were not high, based on monitoring conducted using a Gasmet FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared) detector and material samples collected at the scene.
'The use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including face masks or respirators, remains necessary for all personnel on duty,' he added.
He also noted that the test results of the collected samples are still being analysed.
Yesterday, Deputy chief of Zone I Senior Fire Superintendent Il Rosfarawadi Ismani Ismail reportedly said that five premises were destroyed in the incident, which affected an area of approximately 1,000 square metres and involved the destruction of 15 vehicles.

KOTA BHARU, June 22 (Bernama) -- The Public Works Department (JKR) is reviewing the final report of the Pavement Condition Assessment (PCA) to plan road repair works, including along critical routes such as the East-West Highway (JRTB), says Public Works director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail. He said the PCA was essential for identifying damaged pavement sections and determining the most suitable maintenance methods to ensure that available allocations were utilised optimally. 'For the Gerik–Jeli stretch of the JRTB, the PCA has been conducted since March 13 using advanced technologies such as the Multi Laser Profiler and Falling Weight Deflectometer. 'We began the assessment earlier this year, and it is now in its final stage. Based on the PCA report, we will use the existing allocation of RM55 million for repair works. If that is insufficient, we will apply for additional funding,' he told reporters after officiating the annual general meeting of the Kelantan chapter of the Malaysian Malay Contractors Association here today. Commenting further, Roslan said that it was impossible to repair the entire route in a short period due to the high cost and potential disruption to other infrastructure projects. 'In this regard, we agree with the suggestion made by the Perak Menteri Besar, which aligns with JKR's aspirations. We have long had plans in place, but it must be understood that the country's funding system follows a 'whole of nation' approach, where allocations are distributed comprehensively and according to annual priorities. 'God willing, with the support from the state government and emphasis from the Works Minister, we have submitted an application for phased improvements,' he said. The 215-kilometre JRTB, which links Gerik in Perak to Jeli in Kelantan, has been identified as a strategic route frequently damaged due to weather conditions and heavy traffic flow. Roslan emphasised that any road repair works would be carried out prudently to avoid overlap or interference with other ongoing development projects.

Photographer's Car Damaged By Explosion Debris While Covering Fire In Masai, Johor
By Nur Fatin Mohmad Kadenen JOHOR BAHRU, June 21 (Bernama) -- A car belonging to a photographer from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) was damaged after being hit by explosion debris while he was covering a fire at a lorry and engine oil storage facility at Jalan Cenderai 27, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai, here today. Mohd Hilmizudin Daud, 34, who is based at the Johor Bureau, did not expect that debris from the explosion would damage his Perodua Kelisa, which was parked about 100 metres from the scene. He said the debris broke the left-side wing mirror and left dents and scratches on the same side of the car. Mohd Hilmizudin, a father of one who is expecting a second child in early July, said he had no choice but to come to terms with the damage to the car that had been his faithful companion on countless assignments for the past three years. 'I only realised my car was damaged around 7 pm after I had completed my assignment. While I was shooting, there were many explosions and barrels even flew into the air, which I managed to capture. 'When I reached my car and started the engine to reverse, I noticed the left wing mirror was missing. Initially, I thought it had been folded back because someone might have leaned against the car,' he told Bernama. Mohd Hilmizudin said he had rushed to the scene with his colleague, reporter Nur Fadhliana Shaari, at around 2 pm after being informed of the incident.
