The Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, famed as the world's largest chariot festival, is held annually during the months of June–July. The three deities—Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra—are ceremoniously brought out of the Jagannath Temple and placed on grand wooden chariots.
Pulled by thousands of devotees, the chariots roll through the streets of Puri towards the Gundicha Temple, located about 3 km away. A week later, the return procession, called the Bahuda Yatra, marks their journey back.
Preparations aren't limited to Puri; the spiritual fervor soars across India. In Ahmedabad, Gujarat's Minister Harsh Sanghavi said that the Rath Yatra is a 'huge centre of devotion,' attracting lakhs of participants.
He confirmed that the crucial Jal Yatra ritual—fetching holy water from the Sabarmati—has commenced, and that comprehensive arrangements are underway to ensure its smooth and secure execution when it begins on June 27.
Meanwhile in Odisha, Pahandi rituals and Snana Utsav were carried out.

The 3 majestic chariots
Three colossal wooden chariots—Nandighosha for Jagannath (16 wheels), Taladhwaja for Balabhadra (14 wheels), and Darpadalana for Subhadra (12 wheels)—are designed anew annually in traditional patterns and hauled by devotees.
The chariots, built from specified neem-like woods and assembled with 600800+ pieces, are crowned with temple-like canopies made of over 1,200 m of cloth.
A standout ritual, Chera Pahara, sees the Gajapati King sweeping the chariot grounds with a gold broom, symbolizing humility and equality before divinity.
The grand procession
Devotees throng the streets chanting 'Jai Jagannath' and tugging ropes to move the chariots. It's believed that simply touching the ropes cleanses sins and grants blessings.
The deities journey to Gundicha Temple, where they stay for nine days before returning during Bahuda Yatra. Along the return, they stop at Mausi Maa Temple to receive their favorite Poda Pitha pancakes, ending with Niladri Bijaya, which heralds the festival's close.

Boudh gets rail connectivity as PM flags off trains
1 2 Bhubaneswar: For the first time, Boudh district got train services after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two new trains and extended the services of three existing trains connecting Purunakatak and Boudh on Friday. Modi flagged off the trains after inaugurating the Sonepur-Purunakatak section (73 km) of the Khurda Road-Balangir (301 km) new line project, connecting Boudh district. This railway section was constructed at a cost of Rs 1,376 crore. With this, Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of seven railway projects worth Rs 2,750 crore. "Boudh district headquarters is now connected to the railway network for the first time after completion of this railway section. Finally, our district will be on the railway map of India, fulfilling the decades-old dream of the local people," said Seshadev Jani, a resident of Boudh district. He said people can now visit the Bhairavi temple at Purunakatak by train. "The Sonepur-Purunakatak rail section will strengthen the social and economic connectivity of this region. The PM flagged off the Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express (18313/18314) and Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express (18311/18312) here. People attended the flag-off ceremony of the trains at Boudh and Purunakatak stations. The Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express will leave from Boudh at 7 am every Monday and reach Bhubaneswar New at 6.15 pm via Balangir-Sambalpur-Angul-Naraj. In the return direction, this train will leave from Bhubaneswar New at 11 pm on Mondays and reach Boudh at 10.30 am on Tuesdays. Similarly, the Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express from Sambalpur will leave at 7.25 pm on Sundays and arrive at Boudh at 11.55 pm on the same day. The return train from Boudh will leave at 12.15 pm on Tuesdays and reach Sambalpur at 5.30 pm on the same day. Apart from this, the Bhubaneswar-Sonepur-Bhubaneswar Inter-City Express and two pairs of Balangir-Sonepur shuttle passenger trains will now originate from Purunakatak in Boudh district.

Vizag targets world record in mass yoga event today
Visakhapatnam: The port city is set to create history with record-breaking participation on the occasion of International Day of Yoga on Saturday, with over five lakh people expected to attend, including over three lakh on the beach road from RK beach to Bheemili. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the celebrations in the city. The entire beach road stretch, a 26.8 km route, wore a green look with the arrangement of green mats on the road. Vizag is aiming to surpass the previous record of participation registered at Surat in Gujarat with 1.5 lakh people. The city is also attempting another record with 25,000 students performing Surya Namaskar at Andhra University grounds. The state govt has deployed more than 10,000 police personnel, including Octopus and Greyhounds, apart from NSG commandos. The main event will be held for 45 minutes as the participants exhibit their skills in 18 Asanas. The mega display will be held on a 30.16 km stretch, including 18 sports fields apart from the 26km beach road stretch. Around 75 parking slots have been allotted for vehicles nearest to the compartments. Apart from this, around 1,400 vehicles from Anakapalli, 850 from Vizianagaram, 550 from Srikakulam, and 500 vehicles from Alluri district will ferry around 1.25 lakh people to Nagarapalem, Timmapuram, Bheemili, and other areas on the beach stretch. Wake-up call for participants People who have registered for the Yogandhra program will get a wake-up call at 3 am on Saturday on their mobile phones from their respective wards or village secretariats. They will reach the place where buses will start for Yogandhra venues, where a QR code will be pasted. The code will be scanned for Guinness world record purposes. Authorities have also arranged over 4,000 mobile toilets close to the compartments. Governor S Abdul Nazeer, chief minister Naidu, and education minister Nara Lokesh are already in the city. They welcomed PM Modi, who landed at around 7 pm at INS Dega, the naval airstrip at Visakhapatnam airport. The Prime Minister will start Yoga Day celebrations at 6.30 am on Saturday. Along with him, two-three speakers will address the gathering before the display of yogasanas at 7 am.
