Industrial Sovereignty: Morocco Selects 1,839 Projects Worth $12.49 Billion
Doha – On Monday, Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour announced that 1,839 industrial projects have been selected as part of efforts to boost Morocco's industrial sovereignty.
The projects, selected up until June 10, represent a total investment of MAD 124.9 billion ($12.49 billion).
They aim to strengthen domestic production capacities, reduce Morocco's reliance on imports, and are expected to generate 179,825 jobs across key manufacturing sectors.
Speaking at the House of Representatives, Mezzour, through Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Omar Hejira, stated that these projects are expected to create 179,825 jobs.
He stressed that this initiative seeks to increase domestic manufacturing of goods that can be produced in Morocco as a substitute for imported products.
Mezzour also pointed out the significant progress made by the industrial sector under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. He attributed this to the various industrial plans implemented over the past two decades.
The minister noted that this momentum has been further reinforced following the COVID-19 pandemic through the adoption of a new strategy.
This strategy aims to position Morocco as a decarbonized industrial platform, enhance its industrial sovereignty, improve competitiveness, and reduce the trade deficit.
The selection of these projects represents a key step towards achieving these objectives and bolstering Morocco's industrial self-sufficiency. Tags: Moroccan IndustryRyad Mezzour

Morocco, Mauritania Sign Archives Cooperation Agreement
Marrakech – Morocco and Mauritania have signed a cooperation agreement on archival matters, establishing a formal partnership between the two national agencies responsible for preserving documentary heritage. The agreement was signed on Friday at the headquarters of the Moroccan Archives Foundation in Rabat. The Mauritanian delegate, Mohamed Mokhtar Sayed Mohamed El Hadi, signed on behalf of the National Documents Office, while Latifa Mouftakar, Director of the Moroccan Archives Foundation, represented Morocco. The agreement establishes a bilateral collaboration framework for collecting, preserving, processing and enhancing public archives, particularly those related to shared history and administrative and cultural exchanges between the two countries. It includes joint actions in professional training, digitization, management of conservation centers, historical research, and making archives accessible to the general public. The convention also paves the way for regular technical exchanges between Mauritanian and Moroccan experts, joint scientific publications, and cultural events focused on the role of archives in writing national narratives. Through this agreement, both countries aim to deepen their collaboration in a field that, while not heavily publicized, is essential for knowledge transmission and the construction of shared documentary memory. The signing ceremony was attended by Nani Ould El Houssein, Cultural Counselor at the Mauritanian Embassy in Rabat, and Mohamed Fathi, Head of International Cooperation at the Moroccan Archives Foundation. Mauritania has similar agreements with Tunisia, Algeria, Turkiye, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Portugal, reflecting its commitment to archival preservation across borders. This new agreement comes amid improving relations between Rabat and Nouakchott. A December meeting between King Mohammed VI and Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani marked a positive turn in bilateral ties. Morocco-Mauritania relations represent a crucial concept of regional integration due to their history and mutual cooperation. Their geographic proximity to both the Sahel-Saharan region and North Africa places them on the frontline against security threats like terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking, and illegal migration. Mauritania maintains a delicate balance in regional politics. As a small country between two regional powers, Morocco and Algeria, Mauritania cannot definitively take sides in the Sahara issue. Its position remains somewhat median. While not directly recognizing Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, Mauritania doesn't protest it either, adopting a 'positive neutrality' toward Morocco. This balanced approach serves Mauritania's interests in maintaining good relations with both regional powers. Economic interests also factor into this relationship, including the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project that will pass through Mauritania. These shared projects strengthen ties beyond political considerations. The Moroccan Archives Foundation, established under Law No. 69.99 concerning archives, plays a vital role in preserving Morocco's documentary heritage. Created in the context of national reconciliation efforts in the early 21st century, it collects, preserves, and makes accessible the nation's historical records. The institution has been classified as a strategic national institution since 2012. The foundation's main mission includes preserving the national archival heritage, creating general archives, organizing them, and facilitating their consultation for administrative, scientific, social, and cultural purposes. It also establishes standards for archival operations and promotes the field through scientific research, professional training, and international cooperation. 51st OIC Ministerial Council Recognizes King Mohammed VI's Work on Al-Quds
Marrakech – The 51st Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) concluded its two-day session in Istanbul on Sunday, June 22, with special recognition for Morocco's ongoing contributions to Palestine and Africa. In their resolution on 'the Capital of the State of Palestine, Al-Quds Acharif,' the Islamic foreign ministers acknowledged King Mohammed VI's continuous efforts to protect holy sites in Jerusalem. As President of the Al-Quds Committee, the King was specifically noted for his work through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency. The Istanbul Declaration affirmed the agency's implementation of numerous development projects benefiting Jerusalem's population and supporting their struggle. Ministers specifically credited the agency's role in preserving the holy city's identity as a symbol of tolerance and coexistence among the three monotheistic religions. 'The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency has played a substantial role through the implementation of several development projects,' stated the foreign ministers in their official resolution. On the humanitarian front, the agency recently distributed food aid to 850 vulnerable families in Jerusalem and Gaza for Eid Al-Adha. It also launched a campaign providing flour and essential food products to 1,000 families in the besieged strip, along with drinking water supplies funded by Moroccan civil society organizations. In response to the ongoing genocidal campaign carried out by Netanyahu's government, the agency initiated a prosthetics program for child amputees in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development. The first phase will assist 23 children, part of a broader program targeting 300 beneficiaries. Additionally, the agency established an orphan sponsorship program supporting 500 children who lost parents in the conflict, providing monthly allowances and social assistance. The OIC ministers also condemned Israeli aggression against Iran and expressed concern over the dangerous escalation. The declaration denounced 'Israel's destabilization policies' against Syria and Lebanon, calling them 'a flagrant violation of sovereignty and international law.' Notably, the statement did not mention or condemn American strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. Regarding African initiatives, the ministers valued King Mohammed VI's effort to provide Sahel countries with access to the Atlantic Ocean. They pointed to the strategic importance of this initiative, which reflects Morocco's active solidarity with the continent, particularly in the Sahel region. Ministers also recognized the African Atlantic States Initiative launched by the monarch as an African partnership process aimed at strengthening cooperation between African countries bordering the Atlantic Ocean to consolidate peace, stability, and shared prosperity. The Council commended the sovereign's leadership on migration issues in Africa and Morocco's continuing role as a 'Champion Country' for implementing the Global Migration Pact. They also welcomed the United Nations' selection of Morocco to host the UN Counter-Terrorism Program and Training Office for Africa, inaugurated in Rabat on June 24, 2021. The ministers saluted Morocco's leadership and experience through its presidency of the Africa Focus Group within the Global Coalition against Daesh. At the session, Morocco was elected to the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission for a three-year term, recognizing the North African country's prominent position in promoting and protecting human rights nationally and internationally. The OIC, founded in 1969 following the fire at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, has 57 member countries and aims to protect the interests of the Muslim world while increasing Muslim solidarity.
