(Rawpixel pic) KOTA BHARU: Police have arrested a man in connection with the acid attack on a spa owner in Beris Kubur Besar, Bachok, last Saturday. Bachok district police chief Ismail Jamaluddin said the suspect was arrested at 4pm yesterday at a rubber factory in Kuala Krai. He said the 45-year-old man was detained to assist in investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code. 'Police will apply for a remand order for the suspect at the magistrates' court today to facilitate further investigations,' he told Bernama when contacted today. Yesterday, Bernama reported that a female suspect had been arrested at the same factory on suspicion of being involved in the incident. Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the 38-year-old woman was arrested at 4pm on Wednesday.
Advertisement Last Saturday, a female trader was doused with a liquid believed to be acid by an unknown individual in an incident near a convenience store in Beris Kubur Besar, Tawang, near Bachok. The attack left the victim with severe burns on her shoulder, back, arms and legs. KUNAK: A house and a Perodua Myvi were destroyed in a fire that broke out early Sunday morning along Jalan Tawau-Kunak, near the checkpoint area. According to a statement from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department's Operations Center (JBPM), the Kunak Fire Station received an emergency call at 12.22AM via the MERS999 hotline. A team of six firefighters, led by Operations Commander PBK I KUP Kamarulzaman Roslie, was dispatched to the scene, located about 39 kilometres from the Kunak Fire and Rescue Station, with one fire engine and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle. 'The fire gutted a house and a Perodua Myvi car, which were completely destroyed. 'Firefighting efforts involved one 200-foot hose line with a single stream from the fire engine. The operation was brought under control by 1.05am and was ended at 2.07am,' said in a statement issued by State Fire and Rescue Department on Sunday. Suspected drug dealer held in Lahad Datu

District Acting Police Chief, Supt. Jimmy Panyau said, the drugs were found inside an ice cream container inside one of the rooms in the house. The 46-year-old Filipino man was also tested positive for consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine. Following the operation, the team also seized equipment believed to be used in the drug abuse activities. 'Two vehicles, a motorcycle and a Four Wheel Drive (4WD) were also seized in the operation. 'The suspect is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,' he said. Students face action: Sabah Police Commissioner

Kota Kinabalu: Police view seriously the burning of a poster containing the image of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reportedly by students on the second day of their protest at Lintasan Deasoka on Sunday. Sabah Police Commissioner SAC Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the matter would be investigated under the Sedition Act and Penal Code. They would also look into all conditions that were set for the group to organise the rally after City Police was notified. 'Once completed, we will refer it to the Federal Attorney-General's office soon as possible for the next course of action,' he told Daily Express, Sunday. Jauteh was commenting on some participants believed to be Universiti Malaysia Sabah students calling themselves Suara Mahasiswa UMS who set fire to an image of Anwar and a placard at Lintasan Deasoka, Gaya Street, Sunday morning. Suara Mahasiswa UMS President Fadhil Kasim also attacked the Prime Minister in a social media post after the incident.
