Zach Gowen Reveals Who Pitched Bringing Him In For AEW Match
Zach Gowen will have his first match with All Elite Wrestling later tonight against Ricochet on the Dynamite: Beach Break special.
Former WWE Superstar Zach Gowen recently sat down with Zack Heydorn of Sports Illustrated. When asked how he got connected with AEW, Gowen gave that credit to agent and producer Kevin Matthews.

'I saw that a gentleman by the name of Kevin Matthews, who's a producer and agent for AEW. An old friend of mine and a lifelong supporter of mine as well,' Zach Gowen said. 'He's done good by me throughout the years. I saw that he was in town in Detroit, my hometown, for AEW, so I hit him up and I said, Hey, man, do you want to go to lunch?
'He just started pitching these ideas, which fired up my imagination, and it got me thinking. It got me hyped up, and so really, it's from that relationship that I have with Kevin and a lot of those guys that work backstage, and that was able to bring it to fruition.'
Stepping in the ring with Ricochet
When asked about his match with Ricochet later this evening, Gowen said he's looking forward to it, calling Ricochet the best wrestler in the world.

'I'm absolutely looking forward to getting in the ring with him, because Ricochet is the best wrestler in the world,' Zach Gowen said. 'I've said that for a long, long time. I saw him put on an absolute clinic — must have been 2016 or 2015 somewhere in New York. He wrestled the Amazing Red and was one of the best matches I've ever seen live.'

As Cena's segment continued, he decided to give a shoutout to three former WWE superstars: Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro), Nic Nemeth (Dolph Ziggler) and Cardona (Zack Ryder). This caused the crowd to burst into cheers, and Cardona issued a response to the moment on X. However, the callout is not a surprise because the WWE started a multi-year partnership with TNA Wrestling in January, allowing both promotions to have their wrestlers to compete in each other's companies. So far, the partnership has been primarily focused on WWE's developmental show NXT, where TNA superstars such as Joe Hendry and TNA Knockout World Champion Masha Slamovich have competed in several matches. She has ventured into other mediums since her retirement. Lee was featured in Sacramento, a new movie starring Michael Cera and Kristen Stewart. However, nothing is impossible. Her husband, CM Punk, did the unthinkable in 2023 and returned to WWE. He was away from the company and wrestling altogether for several years after his initial leave.
