Reddit users came up with some funny responses they could share next time someone pried

They took to Reddit to reveal their unusual moniker - Rat.
"I'm doing a lot of introductions at the moment, and people are always intrigued by my name, they keep asking the history behind it or what it's short for," they explained in the viral post.
The only problem was the name isn't short for anything, so there was nothing to tell.
And although they did have one funny comeback to the constant questions, the same response was getting a bit old, they explained.
"Aside from the jokey answers like 'Ratatouille', I don't have anything to tell them, my name has always just been R-A-T, it's my full first name," they said.
They continued: "I'm getting kind of sick of having the same conversation if I'm real, so does anyone know a name that Rat could be realistically short for?
"It would certainly make introductions a bit less painless for me. I just moved to a new job, and they're more of a posh crowd who are very nosy lmao. I can see the questions brewing."
Luckily, the fellow Reddit users had some incredible responses lined up for any further prying questions.
One said: "You gotta hit 'em with the ol' Rat-a-tat-tat."
And a second came up with a whole list of potential names including Ratthew, Rattlesnake, Ratorichal question, and Ratasha.

A third took a different approach and said: "An answer like 'Rattus rattus' could help drive the full name point home in a slightly sarcastic way."
Another joked they should tell people the name is short for 'Mouse'.
"My parents called me 'Brat' but I dropped the first letter," was another suggested response.
But others though telling people another backstory was a better idea as one said: "It's your nickname from prison. You ratted everyone out and got early release. Better to not ask why you were in."
"It is short for Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat, obviously," someone else joked.
Meanwhile, some Reddit users were more focused on why Rat didn't know where their name really came from.
They said she never asked when they were younger, but have now missed the opportunity to find out from their parents.
"I've never asked. I think maybe it was after a musician or artist back when they were kids, but then again, my best friend growing up was also a boy called Badger," they explained.
"I'm not even the first Rat I've met, we both thought each other were taking the piss though when we first met because it's a bit rare.
"I'm White British, so as far as I know there's no cultural meaning to it."

She appears to remain on the floor injured for the rest of the shocking clip, only moving briefly when staffers try to help her up. The fight ramps up when one of the tourists who was also caught in the crossfire steps back before falling into the water. Suddenly, his pal is then hit by a soaring white chair and also falls backwards. READ MORE WORLD NEWS GET A ROOM! Shock moment two brazen tourists are caught in public sex act at hols hotspot The two tourists continue to tread water - until the same holidaymaker that hurled a chair moments before goes in for seconds. He lifts up another poolside chair and proceeds to slam it down into his victim's bald head. A group of lifeguards and security attempt to intervene, but their efforts amount to nothing as the chair-hurling man seemingly ignores them. The two hurt holidaymakers then stay in the pool surrounded by foes, while their opposition continue to shout at and taunt them. One of the men is even seen mocking the victims as he dances by the side of the pool. A seemingly ironic sign, which reads "Good Vibes Only", can be seen by the side of the pool. Moment topless, beer-swilling teens erupt in fistfight behind beach huts in days of seaside yob chaos Online users pointed this out when watching the chaotic clip, with one user saying: "Good vibes only sign does it for me." The account that posted the viral video captioned the brawl: "The chaos was temporary. The memories? Permanent." Other viewers seemed to find the mayhem absolutely hilarious, and heavy speculation suggested the men were all British. One user commented: "Can smell the Stella, Joop and British passports from here." Another said: "Typical British behaviour." But some viewers were outraged by the fight. One account said: "Doesn't look like good fun happening there. Looks too intimidating and aggressive. No thanks." While another said: "Embarrassingly British." It is unclear if the men were British nationals, and the hotel have not commented on the brawl which left one woman lying on the floor. In 2022, two people ended up in the sea when a mass brawl erupted in Ibiza after Brits were reportedly banned from a party boat. The fight saw brawlers punching each other and rubbish bins being used as weapons in the popular resort of San Antonio. The chair-throwing fight also comes after an EasyJet passenger on board a flight to Ibiza was left petrified after a group of rowdy "drunk" Brits turned her journey into a "nightclub". Furious Spaniard Erika Barrachina claimed she suffered a "panic attack" after having to cope with "scum" passengers. The Ibiza resident blasted that these type of tourists should never have been allowed to board the plane in the first place. Shocking footage showed a packed plane with passengers appearing to bang on luggage compartments and yell: "Come on Ibiza!"

I'm a dentist and most clients ask for the same two celebrity smiles – there's a £4 treatment that will achieve it
A DENTIST to the stars has revealed which two celebrity smiles patients ask him to replicate most often. Dr Kal Prajapat, 28, shared what dentists view as the "perfect smile" and the £4 tool that can help you get it. 7 Cosmetic dentist Dr Kal Prajapat said he frequently gets asked to replicate two celeb smiles Credit: SWNS 7 The first of these was Margot Robbie's as 'her teeth follow her lower lip perfectly' Credit: Getty 7 Cheryl Cole's smile comes in at a 'close second' Credit: Getty He's been a cosmetic dentist for 10 years and is opening a new practice in Harrods later this year. Dr Kal said having the perfect grin is now seen as a "status symbol" with more and more young people after work after coming across flawless pearly whites on TikTok and Instagram. "Clients come to me with a reference picture from a famous person - usually an influencer - like you'd do at the hairdresser," said the dentist from London. "Margot Robbie is the most popular right now because in a dentist's view, she has the perfect smile. "Her smile fits her face well with its beautiful shape and natural characteristics. "Her teeth follow her lower lip perfectly, and she has a tall buccal corridor smile - where a noticeable space exists between the sides of the upper teeth and corners of the mouth. "Cheryl Cole is a close second." He says people in their 20s are seeking dental procedures, taking cues from influencers and popular programmes like Love Island. Dr Kal added: "The advent of TikTok and Instagram has resulted in younger people wanting to have work done to their teeth. "Before, it was Hollywood veneers that were popular among older people, as they typically had more disposable income. UK Mum's Dental Nightmare: Turkey Teeth Leave Her in Debt and Pain "Now people in their teens and 20s are wanting work done to get the perfect 'Instagramable' grin." Asked how to get "instant results" and a whiter smile, he recommends using an interdental toothbrush - a small, thin brush used to clean between teeth and along the gumline, where a regular toothbrush can't reach. They are available for around £4 from supermarkets. "For instant results but without a bid price tag, I recommend using an interdental toothbrush after regular brushing," he said. 7 Dr Kal recommended using interdental brushes to brush up your smile Credit: Getty 7 They cost £4 and can get into the nooks and crannies your regular brush can't reach "They clean where routine brushing misses, meaning better gum health and a whiter smile. "I can immediately tell if a patient uses them by a glance at their teeth." With a practice in Stone and Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and soon to be Harrods, London, Dr Kal has a wide range of clients, including a few celebs. Despite invasive procedures like veneers once being in high demand, Dr Kal says "less is more for a long-lasting smile" and promotes non-invasive composite bonding, Invisalign, and professional teeth whitening. Dentist-approved teeth whitening tips ERIN Fraundorf, DMD, MSD, owner of BOCA Orthodontic + Whitening Studio in Missouri, shared her top tips for whiter teeth. Seek whitening treatment from a professional. It's often stronger and will be the most effective so you don't waste your money on a product that doesn't work or may harm you. You also only get one set of teeth, so it's best not to experiment on them. Consider the cause of the staining. There are numerous causes for teeth to have a yellow or brown tint. Be sure to get evaluated and diagnosed by a professional to ensure you receive the best treatment for your stains. Not all stains are the same so they may require different treatments. Consider your lifestyle, smile goals, and budget. When choosing a whitening treatment that is best for you, consider multiple factors when designing a custom plan. Some people like homework to whiten at home, some prefer in-office treatments only, some need to get really bright really fast — for a wedding, for example — whereas others would like a more gentle, gradual, consistent approach to whitening. Ease into it. Start integrating teeth whitening into your routine gradually to get your teeth accustomed to it and you can closely monitor your level of sensitivity to regulate how frequently you can whiten. Try to prevent. Make tiny changes to your lifestyle in an effort to prevent staining from penetrating your teeth. For example, sip staining beverages through a straw, swish with plain water after drinking anything staining, and pick flat water over sparkling whenever possible. Water floss to help in between the teeth stains. Blast away stubborn stains in between your teeth with a water flosser, because toothbrush bristles can only reach so much of your tooth surface. Featuring in Olivia Attwood's recent season of The Price Of Perfection on ITV, he discusses the unrealistic cosmetic dental standards set by influencer culture. "People are using their teeth as a status symbol, like you might do with a designer bag or watch." Dr Kal said. "And it's not just women, I've seen a rise in men seeking dental work. "They're not embarrassed or shy, and why should they? "A lovely smile is beautiful on men and women. "I like to promote non-invasive procedures like composite bonding, plus they don't affect the quality of the tooth through drilling or filling. "Less is more when it comes to dental procedures - that and an enamel-safe toothpaste, and I recommend an electric toothbrush." Teeth whitening 'hacks' to avoid Understanding that not everyone can afford cosmetic dentistry, Dr Kal said: "I don't recommend whitening strips, they're too chemically abrasive for the teeth. "It diminished the enamel, making the teeth more vulnerable to damage and cavities. "A good enamel-safe toothpaste is where you should start, and preferably an electric toothbrush. "Oil pulling is an ancient medicinal practice which some people favour to get a whiter smile, but evidence supporting its use is quite low. "Teeth whitening is where I recommend people spend their money, by going to a professional. "It's more effective, safer and longer-lasting due to the EU-regulated chemicals we use. "It's a luxury not everyone can or wants to indulge in. "If it's not something you can afford, an interdental toothbrush is your go-to product. "Everyone should be using them." 7 Dr Kal advised against using whitening strips or oil pulling Credit: SWNS

JK Rowling says she and Stephen Fry were NEVER friends after he said Harry Potter author was ‘radicalised by TERFs'
The author posted the brutal dig on her social media JK HITS BACK JK Rowling says she and Stephen Fry were NEVER friends after he said Harry Potter author was 'radicalised by TERFs' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AUTHOR JK Rowling has hit back at Sir Stephen Fry amid the pair's public trans row. It comes after Fry, who has previously referred to the Harry Potter creator as a "friend of mine", called her out for her views on trans women. The comedian said: "She has been radicalised I fear and it may be she has been radicalised by TERFs. "It is unhelpful and only hardens her and will only continue to harden her I am afraid. "I am sorry because I always liked her company. I found her charming, funny and interesting. "Then this thing happened and it completely altered the way she talks and engages with the world now. "I am not saying that she not be called out when she says things that are really cruel, wrong and mocking. "She seems to be a lost cause for us." His words were then reposted on social media by barrister Jo Maugham - prompting a brutal response from the author. But in response to the tweet, Rowling denied claims that the pair were close. Posting on X, she said: "It is a great mistake to assume that everyone who claims to have been a friend of mine was ever considered a friend by me." The author is no stranger to such comments and has long stood firm in the face of online pressure. Rowling has come under fire for comments made in the past towards trans people. PM backs JK Rowling in war with trans activists and says 'we should not criminalise people saying common sense things' In 2020, the esteemed author slammed the growing trend of replacing "biological sex" with "gender identity". Her stance, that declared "sex is real", led to death threats, but also moulded her into a figurehead for the "gender-critical" movement. Activists accused her of transphobia in 2020 when replying to an article with the headline: "Opinion: Creating a more equal post Covid-19 world for people who menstruate." She tweeted: "'People who menstruate'. I'm sure there used to be a word for those people. "Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?" Her remarks led to criticism from Potter actors Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, who ignored the fact her books had made them famous to launch a string of attacks. It was Rowling's beloved group For Women Scotland which also launched a long-running legal battle with the Scottish government over how a "woman" was defined in Scottish law. The Scottish government had argued people with gender recognition certificates (GRCs) should be protected from sex-based discrimination, meaning a transwoman would be considered a woman. However, campaign group For Women Scotland claimed this only applied to people born as a female. In April, the Supreme Court's landmark judgement ruled that it was unanimously determined "sex is binary" and that female-only spaces must be protected on the basis of biology. Hailing the landmark decision, Tory Leader Kemi Badenoch said: "Saying 'trans women are women' was never true in fact, and now isn't true in law either. "This is a victory for all of the women who faced personal abuse or lost their jobs for stating the obvious. "Women are women and men are men: you cannot change your biological sex."
