New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s tenure with the team has been the epitome of a mixed bag since it acquired him last summer. The 27-year-old slashed .273/.325/.500 with 11 homers and 23 RBI over 46 games to finish out the regular season, but slashed just .182/.250/.309 with two homers and two RBI over 14 playoff contests.

Chisholm's struggles continued this season, as he slashed .151/.279/.312 in April before he went down with an oblique injury. However, he was a different player when he came back, as he slashed .381/.391/.667 in June ahead of Tuesday's game vs. the Kansas City Royals.
Chisholm left the contest in the seventh inning, via The New York Post's Greg Joyce.

"Jazz Chisholm Jr. is out of the game, with Oswald Peraza replacing him at 3B for the bottom of the seventh," Joyce initially reported. "Possible it's just because of the 10-2 lead, but Chisholm was shaken up earlier on the dive into third."
While New York did have a sizable advantage at the time of Chisholm's departure, the Yankees later announced he left the game with neck tightness (via Newsday's Erik Boland).
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed Chisholm as an international free agent in July 2015 before trading him to the Miami Marlins in July 2019. The 5-foot-11-inch, 184-pounder got called up in 2020 and played just three total playoff games with the Marlins before they dealt him to New York.

After their series with the Royals, the Yankees will continue their road trip vs. the Boston Red Sox before returning home to play the Los Angeles Angels and Baltimore Orioles.

NEW YORK — Baltimore Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman likely will be sidelined until after the All-Star break because of a strained left oblique, and infielder Jordan Westburg will be out for at least a few days because of a sprained left index finger sustained even though he wore a sliding mitt. Westburg injured the finger while stealing second base in Saturday's 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees. 'Actually the sliding mitt that's supposed to protect his hand, that's the one that he did it,' interim manager Tony Mansolino said Sunday. 'Doesn't know how he did it. It's been the same mitt that he's used for a couple years, talking about it this morning. Kind of crazy that he hurt his finger. That's what those things are for.' Westburg missed more than a month with a left hamstring strain before returning on June 10. The 26-year-old is hitting .229 with seven homers and 17 RBIs in 34 games this season. He had 10 hits in his first 25 at-bats before going hitless in his next 14. 'It's sore this morning. We're hoping it's two to three days. If it gets to be longer, then it'll be another conversation at that point,' Mansolino said. 'The X-rays were negative, so it's not fractured. That's the positive. So nothing catastrophic by any means.' Westburg hit .264 with 18 homers and 63 RBIs last year, becoming a first-time All-Star. First baseman Ryan Mountcastle (strained right hamstring) also is on the injured list along with outfielders Tyler O'Neill (left shoulder impingement) and Jorge Mateo (left shoulder inflammation). Right-hander Yannier Cano was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk after striking out the side in the seventh inning Saturday, and right-hander Yaramil Hiraldo was recalled from the Tides on Sunday. 'It starts ultimately with the amount of innings that we've had covered here recently with the bullpen,' Mansolino said. 'We need a fresh arm. You have limited amount of bullpen guys that have options.'

Orioles catcher Maverick Handley leaves game after collision with Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Jr.
NEW YORK (AP) — Baltimore Orioles backup catcher Maverick Handley left Sunday's game against the New York Yankees after being knocked over in a collision at the plate with Jazz Chisholm Jr. With Baltimore ahead 2-0, Chisholm hit a two-out double off Dean Kremer and went home on DJ LeMahieu's single to left. Colton Cowser's throw was up the third-base line. Handley moved to his left for the throw, arriving for the ball at the same time as Chisholm, who tried to veer to the inside to avoid contact. Chisholm, whose left cleat had come off as he speeded down the line, smacked into Handley, fell past the plate and had to come back to touch it. Handley, a 27-year-old who debuted in April, got up slowly and was removed after a discussion with interim manager Tony Masolino and head athletic trainer Scott Barringer. Baltimore replaced Handley with former Yankees player Gary Sánchez. Baltimore already is without All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman, who strained his left oblique and is on the injured list for the first time in his major league career.
