Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got used to being without his former top receiving target, Stefon Diggs, after the four-time Pro Bowler was traded to the Houston Texans. Now, he'll have to get used to facing him twice a year after Diggs signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the New England Patriots.
Diggs has suddenly gone from teammate to AFC East rival for Allen and the Bills. It's a drastic turnaround considering all the success the pair achieved together in Diggs' four seasons in Buffalo. The Patriots are hoping to find the same level of success by pairing the star wideout with second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
When speaking with Sports Illustrated's Liam McKeone, Allen admitted that he believes Diggs will help Maye's game "a lot" this season.
"I think he brings a lot of security for Drake. Obviously, having the knowledge of playing in the league for so long, he has that veteran mentorship that he can give to Drake," said Allen.
Diggs is currently working his way back from the ACL injury he suffered with the Texans last season. He wasn't a full participant during the spring practices, but he was on the field running routes and catching passes from Maye.
Before the injury, Diggs had six consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. He has consistently been one of the most productive wide receivers in the league. Can he return to that level as a 31-year-old player coming off a devastating knee injury?
That will be one of the biggest questions facing the Patriots in the 2025 season.

His first came in 2021, when he produced 50 tackles, nine sacks, and 18 total hits on the quarterback in 17 games. In 2022, Burns followed up with another Pro Bowl performance, generating 63 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 22 hits on the quarterback. He also forced a fumble.
