Naveen slams Odisha Government's lax response to Cholera outbreak

Bhubaneswar, June 15 (UNI) Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Sunday criticized the BJP-led Odisha government for its lax approach in handling the cholera outbreak in the state.
Taking to his official X handle, Patnaik wrote, 'The state government's light-handedness in the
face of cholera spreading in Odisha is shocking and disturbing to everyone.'
Patnaik stated that cholera is taking a serious turn in several districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Puri, Cuttack, and Keonjhar, and has now begun spreading to other parts of the state.
Expressing grief over the situation, the BJD President said he was saddened by the loss of 14 lives due to the outbreak and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
'Cholera has endangered people's lives. What had not been witnessed for many years is now disrupting daily life across multiple districts,' he tweeted.
Patnaik urged the state government to remain alert and take strong, immediate measures to curb
the spread of the disease and protect public health.

Telangana celebrates International Yoga Day with grand event at Gachibowli Stadium

Hyderabad, June 21 (UNI) The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated in a grand manner at the GMC Balayogi Sports Stadium in Gachibowli on Saturday morning. The event was jointly organised by the Department of AYUSH and the Telangana Medical and Health Department. The programme commenced with a yoga photo exhibition from 0620 to 0630 hours, followed by a virtual address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi broadcast on LED screens from 0630 to 0700 hours. A 45-minute mass yoga session was then held from 0700 to 0745 hours. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha, Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari, Sports Authority Chairman Shivsena Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, along with several officials and students, participated in the celebrations. In total, more than 5,000 individuals performed yoga during the event. Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said that yoga is a profound gift India has offered to the world. He emphasised remembering Maharishi Patanjali, the revered guru who systematised the ancient practice, and highlighted the significance of Ashtanga Yoga, which he described as the foundation of modern yoga. "Yoga is not just a physical exercise—it is a holistic practice that unites the body, mind, and soul," the minister said. "In today's fast-paced world, lifestyle-related ailments like blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and kidney issues are increasing. Yoga offers the best solution for these problems." He urged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives, stating that all it requires is determination and a good teacher. "Regular yoga practice enhances mental clarity, physical strength, and concentration." Minister Rajanarsimha also outlined the government's efforts under Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy's leadership to promote yoga across the state. These include the appointment of 630 yoga instructors, with another 264 appointments in progress, and the daily conduct of yoga sessions in health sub-centres. "In the past year alone, we have introduced yoga to 5 lakh new individuals. We are also encouraging yoga education in schools and colleges and are launching postgraduate courses in Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences. New Delhi: On the occasion of the 11th International Day of Yoga, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in a large-scale yoga session at Sonia Vihar Water Sports Club, located near the banks of the Yamuna River. The event witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders, including Minister Parvesh Verma, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, Minister Kapil Mishra, and Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Mohan Singh Bisht. Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts gathered early in the morning to take part in the session, held in the scenic backdrop of the Yamuna. The Chief Minister used the moment to emphasise the connection between well-being, nature, and civic responsibility. Speaking at the session, CM Rekha Gupta said, 'I was reminded of my sense of duty. Just as the Yamuna flows continuously here, it should appear the same throughout Delhi wherever the Yamuna passes, with even more water flowing in it.' These events formed part of the broader national celebration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Visakhapatnam, where more than one lakh locations across the country hosted synchronised yoga sessions involving over 2 crore people. Now in its 11th year, International Day of Yoga has evolved into a global phenomenon. The day is observed across continents and cultures, and India continues to play a pivotal role in promoting mindfulness, discipline, and sustainable living through the practice of yoga. The 2025 theme, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health,' has further emphasised the connection between personal well-being and planetary health, aligning with India's broader vision of global harmony through traditional wisdom.
