Cabinet expansion: CM, PCC chief to visit Delhi on June 4

Hans India01-06-2025

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud are likely to visit Delhi on June 4, to discuss Cabinet expansion and PCC executive with the party high command.
With a few Ministers not being included in the newly appointed PCC's Political Affairs Committee (PAC), there is a buzz in the political circles that the new Cabinet will have at least two to three Ministers replaced with new ones. This has added to further uncertainty even as different caste leaders competing for the Cabinet berth. Presently, the cabinet has four from Reddy community, two each from BC and SCs, one each from Brahmin, Kamma, Velama and ST, totalling 12, including Chief Minister. According to party sources, as the issue gets delayed, more and more legislators stake claim. With the case of Madiga MLAs being the latest instance who are now making their efforts to meet the AICC top brass, even BC legislators demand for their rightful share.
The MLAs representing SC community have in recent months emphasised that Health Minister Damodara Rajanarsimha does not belong to Madiga community, but sub-caste (Mochi), trying to bury the argument that they have a representative in the Cabinet. Chief Minister and PCC president B Mahesh Goud during their last visit to the national capital were asked to discuss the matter in Delhi to finalise the names on May 30. But this has been reportedly postponed to June 4.
On May 26, in an attempt to reduce the speculation, Mahesh Goud who briefed the media in Delhi clarified that this time the AICC has reached a conclusion and the Cabinet expansion proposal has been approved by Rahul Gandhi.

Delhi CM performs yoga on riverbank, says govt.'s efforts to clean Yamuna visible

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta performed yoga on the banks of the Yamuna river on Saturday, the annual International Yoga Day, accompanied by Cabinet colleague Kapil Mishra, North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Chief Secretary Dharmendra, senior officials, and several schoolchildren. Speaking to mediapersons after the event in Sonia Vihar, the CM said she had chosen the spot to show the public that the river was cleaner now as her government has been continuously working to make it pollution-free. 'Message for public' 'Decentralising sewage treatment plants (STPs), laying new sewer lines and water pipelines… whatever is needed to clean the river, we are consistently doing it. By performing yoga here, we want to give a message to the people of Delhi that Yamuna is getting cleaner,' she said. Cleaning the Yamuna was one of the poll promises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made in the run-up to the Delhi Assembly election. Ms. Gupta said a total of 303 drainage projects, with an estimated cost of ₹8,000 crore, are under way. 'These include redevelopment of major drains, installation of modern water pumps, desilting drains, expansion of stormwater drainage system and scientific drainage network management,' she said. Ms. Gupta said that the Yamuna had been Delhi's identity, as the city was established along the banks of the river. 'We are working sincerely to clean the river. This [Sonia Vihar] stretch of the river is clean. We will clean the remaining stretches also,' she said. She said that thousands of tonnes of water hyacinth had been removed from the river using advanced technology. 'A cruise service is also being planned on Yamuna,' she added. Hitting out at the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress governments, the CM said, 'Over the years, the city has seen many governments, but they did nothing for Maa Yamuna.' Ms. Gupta said yoga should not be treated as a one-day event, and people should incorporate it into their daily routine. She added that it was due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership that yoga today is being celebrated globally. 'Be it the promotion of millet, reducing oil consumption or advocating yoga, PM Modi has consistently encouraged citizens towards a healthy life,' she added. 'Deeply inspiring' 'Witnessing youngsters perform yoga on boats was a deeply inspiring sight,' she said, adding that it was for the first time that such a grand celebration was organised by the Delhi government with more than 20,000 people in attendance across the city, 'creating a new milestone'.

OBC students demand inclusion of Telangana BC bills in IX Schedule of Constitution

The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) held a protest at the Arts College in Osmania University on Saturday, calling on the Union Government to include Telangana's Backward Classes (BC) reservation bills in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution. The demonstration, titled 'BC Satyagraha', was part of the association's growing campaign demanding 42% reservations for BCs in the State. Speaking at the event, AIOBCSA national president G. Kiran Kumar said the demand is not just a political issue but the result of a century-long social justice movement led by bahujans. He stressed that 42% reservations are essential to ensure fair and proportionate representation of BCs in governance and administration. The association criticised the Telangana government for what it called a lack of initiative and inaction on the matter. AIOBCSA national secretary B. Mahesh Goud stated that students across Telangana are united and determined to continue the movement until their demands are met. He warned that if necessary, the agitation would be taken to Delhi. The protest received support from various public figures and social justice activists. Among those present were BC Intellectual Forum convenor and retired IAS officer T. Rohith Vemula Bill proposes to cut govt. aid to institutions for violating rules

The Karnataka government has proposed to introduce the Karnataka Rohith Vemula (Prevention of Exclusion or Injustice) (Right to Education and Dignity) Bill, 2025, in the monsoon session of the legislature to safeguard the right to education and dignity of the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), other backward classes (OBC), and minorities. The Bill, the draft of which was discussed in the State Cabinet meeting earlier this week, aims to provide equal access and right to education to SC, ST, OBCs, and minorities in all universities under the purview of the Department of Higher Education in the State. For any violation of the law, the person in charge of the affairs of the institution is liable to imprisonment for one year and a fine of ₹10,000. Significantly, the State government would not provide any financial aid or grant to the institutions violating the provisions of this Act. Every offence committed under the proposed Act would be cognisable and non-bailable. Nudge from Rahul Recently, following a letter from the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured him that his government would enact the law to eliminate caste- and identity-based discrimination in educational institutions. The court would also grant appropriate compensation payable by the accused to the victim of discrimination, which would extend to a maximum of ₹1 lakh, in addition to the fine. For the repeated offence, the person would be punished with an imprisonment for a term of three years and a fine of ₹1 lakh. On hate speech A draft of the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2025, also discussed in the Cabinet, envisages effective prevention and control of hate speech and hate crimes, their negative effects on individuals, groups, and society. A person who commits a hate crime would be punished with three years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹5,000 or both as per the draft law. An offence of hate crime would be non-cognisable and non-bailable, and would be triable by a magistrate of the first class, the draft Bill states. Fake news (prohibition) Bill The Karnataka Misinformation and Fake News (Prohibition) Bill, 2025, proposes a clampdown on misinformation. As per the draft Bill, social media users found guilty of posting fake news would face up to seven years of imprisonment and a maximum fine of ₹10 lakh. The draft, which has been in the making ever since the Congress came to power two years ago, was placed before the Cabinet earlier this week. The draft law defines misinformation as 'knowingly or recklessly making a false or inaccurate statement of fact, whether wholly or in part, in the context in which it appears excluding opinions, religious or philosophical sermons, satire, comedy or parody or any other form of artistic expression if a reasonable man of ordinary prudence does not pursue such communications as statements of fact'. A six-member Fake News on Social Media Regulatory Authority, headed by the Minister for Kannada and Culture, will be constituted, said the draft. Special courts Special courts would be set up for faster trials of offences, which will be cognisable and non-bailable. The law provides for the appointment of at least one special public prosecutor for every special court and one in each Bench of the High Court. The proposed law seeks to prohibit abusive and obscene content, including anti-feminism. It also wants to prohibit the publication of content 'amounting to disrespect of Sanatan symbols and beliefs' on social media.
