Newcastle United match winner's 1952 FA Cup final shirt to be sold
The shirt worn by George Robledo when he scored his match-winning goal for Newcastle United in the 1952 FA Cup Final will be sold at auction next month. It is one of about 50 items linked to the club in the sale, said auctioneers Graham Budd.The Chilean star scored the only goal in the victory over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium. The shirt is expected to sell for between £7,000 and £10,000, the auction house's head of sporting memorabilia David Convery said.
The cotton shirt almost looks like a "night shirt", he said."If it rained back then, it would have been a heavy thing to wear."Robledo came to England as a child in the early 1930s and set a record for most goals scored by an overseas player in English football - a record which stood for almost 50 years. He was the first South American to play professional football in Britain alongside his brother Ted.
Mr Convery said the oldest Newcastle United match shirt being sold was worn by Robert Clark during the 1927-1928 season."It's not like these days," he said. "[This shirt] would have been taken back and laundered and laundered."It is expected to sell for between £3,500 and £5,500, he said. Meanwhile the newest shirt being sold was worn by Alexander Isak when he scored the winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year. It is expected to sell for between £250 to £350, said Mr Convery. The auction takes place between 3 and 6 March. The sale comes ahead of Newcastle United's latest trip to Wembley Stadium where they play Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final on 16 March. The club have not won a domestic trophy since the 1955 FA Cup.

We take a look at some of the biggest talking points surrounding Arsenal transfer target Benjamin Sesko after the Gunners 'agreed a deal' for the RB Leipzig star As rivals Liverpool and Manchester City stamp down their authority on the transfer window, Arsenal are still yet to make a signing ahead of the 2025/26 season. The Gunners are coming off the back of a disappointing campaign where they finished second in the Premier League for the third year in a row. Injury problems in the second half of the season and a lack of firepower up front were the main reasons, and it appears manager Mikel Arteta is keen to buy a star striker this summer in a push to win some long-awaited silverware. Arsenal have been negotiating deals for both Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres in recent weeks, both of whom are reportedly keen to join the Gunners. Sporting CP's Gyokeres is the more clinical of the pair given his 54-goal haul last season. But it is understood that Sesko being five years younger at 22, as well as playing in a more difficult league with RB Leipzig, makes him Arteta's first-choice. German outlet Bild reported last week that a verbal agreement has been reached between Arsenal and the Bundesliga side for Sesko, with rumours suggesting the fee lies anywhere between £85.5million and £68.5m. The Slovenian's price-tag may be affected by Leipzig's failure to qualify for European football, which means they are in need of cash. And with the clubs said to be in agreement, the next step is for Arsenal to finalise personal terms with Sesko, who was linked to the Gunners last summer but opted to stay in Leipzig for another year. Now, Mirror Football takes a look at three of the latest talking points surrounding potentially the next big-name striker to become a hit in north London. Arsenal's five-year curse A lot of pressure will be put on Sesko's shoulders to hit the ground running if he signs for Arsenal, which is slightly unfair given his relatively young age and the gulf in quality between the Premier League and Bundesliga. The Emirates Stadium supporters want a ready-made, world class striker to finish the big chances they missed so regularly this season. It's usually believed that 20 goals is a solid benchmark for a top Premier League striker. But Sesko would have to become the first Arsenal player in five years to score that many goals, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring 22 back in 2018/19. No player has managed more than 16 in one season in any of the campaigns since. Kai Havertz topped Arsenal's ranks with nine goals this term, while Bukayo Saka netted 16 in the 2023/24 season. Martin Odegaard notched 15 the year before, with Saka on 11 and Alexandre Lacazette on 13 the two years prior to that. Sesko, meanwhile, only scored 13 in 2024/25 and 14 in the 2023/24 campaign in the Bundesliga. He will hope that better service can help him push on and truly leave a mark in his debut season in England. Seven-year transfer rule broken Targeting Sesko could be deemed a departure from Arsenal's usual tactics since Arteta took the helm in December 2019. His arrival would mark the first time they have signed a player from the Bundesliga since 2018. Under Arteta and previous sporting director Edu, the Premier League has remained their preferred shopping destination. As seen with David Raya, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Ben White, Arsenal have often turned to players with experience in England due to Premier League-proven players requiring less time to adapt. There's a general consensus that those from Spain's La Liga also fare well in England's top flight, with Arteta utilising his links in his homeland to bring in the likes of Thomas Partey, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and now reportedly Martin Zubimendi. Even Italy's Serie A appears to be highly rated by the Spaniard, who has shopped there for the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior. But, for whatever reason, he has chosen to steer clear of signing players from Germany. The Gunners' last first team players signed from the Bundesliga came in 2018 with Bernd Leno and Sokratis seven summers ago, under Unai Emery. Yet, the move for Sesko is more akin to Arsenal's £60m move for Aubameyang earlier that year, given their positions and high potential. Arsenal's Sesko frustrations Arsenal are reportedly growing frustrated with Sesko over his wage demands as they look to wrap up a deal for their top summer target. Negotiations are said to not be going smoothly due to his desired salary, with Sesko's camp looking to land a big pay day. But, as reported by The Sun, Sesko's demands could prove risky and backfire. The north Londoners could very well back out of the deal, with sporting director Andrea Berta able to fall back on the negotiations he has been holding with Gyokeres instead. It is understood that Arsenal are Gyokeres' first-choice destination this summer ahead of Manchester United, where the Swede's former boss Ruben Amorim is currently in charge.

Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has emerged as a target for a Champions Leagu side as sides line up to take advantage of his release clause at St Mary's stadium Aaron Ramsdale could be set for a surprising transfer this summer after emerging as a target for Galatasaray, with Arsenal set to profit from any sale. The Super Lig champions have a host of former Premier League stars at their disposal and are now interested in bringing the former Gunners goalkeeper to Istanbul. The Turkish giants already had familiar names in Davinson Sanchez, Alvaro Morata, Mario Lemina and Lucas Torreira in their squad last season, and have already moved to add Leroy Sane. Ilkay Gundogan is of interest to Galatasaray too, though his preference is to remain at the Etihad Stadium. And Ramsdale could be the latest source of their affection with the Saints shotstopper said to have a £20million relegation release clause in his contract. That could mark his St Mary's exit just 12 months on from arriving at the club from Arsenal in a deal which, Football London confirm, included a sell-on clause for the Gunners. The ex-Bournemouth goalkeeper, who has been relegated three times from the Premier League, has also found interest from West Ham. The Irons wants a new goalkeer following the departure of Lukasz Fabianski and Ramsdale is under consideration alongside Chelsea duo Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic. Manchester United have also been credited with interest in Ramsdale's services. Andre Onana has been linked with a move away from Ruben Amorim's side. And while Ramsdale's release clause would see Southampton make a loss after agreeing a £25m deal last summer, they may be pleased to say farewell to the England international. The goalkeeper is said to be on around £100,000-a-week and the club are likely keen to get his salary off their wage bill. But a loan has not been ruled out with Southampton not desperate to raise funds through large sales this summer. Ramsdale does want to feature among the top-flight however, and Galatasaray are the latest candidate for his signature per reports. The 27-year-old will be keen to find a new team as he attempts to press his claim for a place in Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad next summer. Galatasaray could satisfy a key component of experience that Tuchel wants his goalkeepers ideally to have. Tuchel said during the last international break: 'All our goalkeepers are not involved in European football, they're not used to European football which would be ideal. It's not a problem, Jordan [Pickford] behaves and trains at the highest level and we're very, very happy with him. He's doing everything at the moment to keep his place because he feels that Dean [Henderson] stepped up and found another level, another gear. 'Dean got a big title with his club and was a key figure in the campaign so that helped him a lot for his confidence. He also found a title and a decisive role at Crystal Palace. He got an important and vital title for his club and he was a big figure in this campaign. This helped his confidence a lot. 'Then we have the very young James Trafford who played a fantastic, record-breaking campaign with Burnley and got clean sheets. Hopefully he can prove himself next season in the Premier League and then the race is on."
