Dangerous Midlothian biker 'had near misses with public' as police hunt culprit
Midlothian police have issued an appeal as they hunt a dangerous off-road motorcyclist in the area.
Officers received a number of reports due to the biker in Penicuik driving dangerously at popular spots - including Montgomery Park and The Precinct.
The culprit has had "several near misses" with the public according to police who say "it's imperative" they trace the rider.

Constable Keith Dolan said: "This motorcycle has had several near misses with people in the area and I would appeal to anyone who has any information regarding this off road motorcycle or its rider to contact us.
"It is imperative that we trace them as soon as possible."

‘Not guilty': US singer Chris Brown fights UK assault charges in London court
Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges linked to a London nightclub brawl, with his trial scheduled to begin in October 2026. The Grammy-winning singer is accused of causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon. A five to seven-day-long trial was scheduled to start on 26 October 2026. The singer was held in custody for nearly a week in May after he was arrested in the northwestern city of Manchester. He was later released on bail. Under the terms of his bail, he will forfeit the £5 million guarantee if he fails to return for court proceedings. The alleged incident took place at a nightclub in Hanover Square in London on 19 February 2023 while Brown was touring in the UK. Grammy winner Police detained him in the early hours of 13 May at a five-star hotel in Manchester after he reportedly flew in by private jet. Other bail terms include surrendering his passport if he is not travelling. He is also required to live at a specific address known to the court and is not permitted to visit the nightclub where the alleged assault took place or contact the alleged victim, Abraham Diah. He appeared in the dock with co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, a US national, with whom he is jointly charged. He rose from a local church choir in Virginia to sudden fame with his rich R&B voice and later rap, but his reputation has been tarnished by the allegations of abuse. He is also scheduled to perform in France, Portugal and the US later in the year before the tour wraps up in Memphis in mid-October.

Fraudsters steal from motorists at city centre car park pay machines
A city centre car park has been targeted by fraudsters stealing money from drivers at payment machines. Customers at Worcester Street car park in Oxford have had sums of money taken from their bank accounts shortly after using the pay machines. Oxford City Council has issued a warning to car park users that they've identified the fraudulent activity and are working with the police to investigate. A common sign of this scam is a "card declined" message on the machine, prompting users to move to another machine—by which time, the card may already have been compromised. "This kind of incident is not common in any of our car parks. "I would ask for car park users to remain vigilant and promptly report any similar incidents or suspicious activity to the police." The city council say they have reported the incidents to the police and initiated increased inspections on all council-owned pay machines. They've also instructed enforcement officers to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity and have made the public aware of the fraud risks. Messages on screen and bank notifications or warnings could be red flags that something is wrong. It also said that RingGo, a mobile car park payment app, can be used as an alternative method to avoid bank card fraud. The council asked car park users to report any suspicious activity to police immediately by phoning 101. It has a pay-and-display payment system and payment machines do not accept cash, although a telephone payment system with a valid bank card as well as RingGo app payments are available. The car park is one of six owned and operated by the council in the city centre, though the council has not reported any other incidents of fraudulent activity at other locations.

UK Launches Security Review Over Vandalized Military Jets
The UK will conduct a full review of security at its biggest airbase after a pro-Palestine activist group posted a video on X claiming to have damaged two military aircraft there. The video shows at least two people traveling across an airfield at night on motorized scooters, and includes footage of one of them spraying red paint onto a plane. The group, Palestine Action, said it had damaged two aircraft at the Brize Norton Royal Air Force base in Oxfordshire.
