'Most hated' UK woman who bought US babies for £8k has 'no regrets'
Judith Kilshaw and her then-husband paid over £8,000 to adopt a pair of six-month-old twins from the United States,.
A woman who was branded one of Britain's 'most hated' after her part in a transatlantic baby-buying scandal, says she still dreams of seeing the twin girls she brought to the UK.
Judith Kilshaw and her then-husband paid over £8,000 to adopt a pair of six-month-old twins from the United States, despite the girls already being promised to another couple.
Dubbed the "cash-for-babies" scandal, Judith and her-then-husband Alan caused intense outrage after taking the children from Missouri to Wales, only for social services to intervene just weeks later and send them straight back to the US, The Mirror reports.
The retired cleaner, 71, though admits she has "no regrets" about the incident that brought her to global infamy.
"It's haunted me for years," she said, speaking to the Mail from her home in Wrexham. "But I've never believed I did anything wrong, I just wanted to give them a better life."
The notorious incident began when Judith, unable to conceive even after rounds of IVF treatment, turned to an American adoption agency out of desperation. She and her former husband, who was a solicitor, paid $14000 for the two girls, Kiara and Keyara, who were later renamed Belinda and Kimberley.
What they did not know was that the unfortunate twins had already been living with a Californian couple, Richard and Vickie Allen, who had begun their own adoption process.
In a shocking twist in an already astounding international "baby buying" scandal, the twins' birth mother handed the children over to the Kilshaws during a supposed "farewell visit" from their new Californian family. This move sparked a legal tug of war between the purchasing parents.
The couple drove the girls across several US states to secure papers that would allow them to take them back to the UK. But they had barely got off the plane before the outcry began at all levels.

Prime Minister Tony Blair called the deal"repugnant" and the courts quickly move to annul the adoption. Within months, the children were taken from the Kilshaws and returned to America.
The fallout was intense and prolonged, Judith and Alan lost their farmhouse, became riddles with debt and eventually, their marriage fell apart as well. "We were just ordinary people caught up in something bigger than us," Judith reflected, 24 years later.
She would go on to marry Stephen Sillett, a musician 13 years younger than her. Remarkably, at her wedding, it was none other than ex-husband Alan that gave her away.
However, this relationship too would eventually break after Judith made headlines again in 2012 when she admitted to hitting Stephen with a Christmas decoration in a holiday row. They are now separated due to the cost of divorce proceedings, but remain friends.
Following Alan's death in 2019, Judith said her husband's final wish was for her to try to reconnect with the girls. "He always saw them as ours," she told the Mail, "he never stopped loving them."
In the time since the scandal, Judith has lived a quiet life, though she admits the story never quite disappeared. She's even been recognised while out shopping by random strangers who remember her frontpage infamy.
In 2018, Judith finally learned information about the two girls she had flown across the Atlantic, discovering that they were raised by a churchgoing family.
"I've never had the chance to explain my side to them," she said. "If they ever want to talk, I'll be here."

British man arrested at Disneyland Paris after trying to marry girl, 9, in private wedding
A private event had been organised to take place in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at the theme park, but Disney cast members were alerted by the sight of a child. A British man has been arrested at Disneyland Paris after an apparent attempt to wed a nine-year-old girl in a private ceremony. Disney staff alerted authorities after spotting the 22-year-old man with a young girl, who was wearing four-inch heels taped to her feet and accompanied by her Ukrainian mother, at a private event held at 5am on Saturday, before the park opened to the public. The wedding was scheduled to occur at dawn in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, reports the Mirror. The French venue had been rented for a wedding, but the organisers did not disclose their plans to Disney. According to reports from BFM TV in France, Disneyland Paris was misled about the event's nature. The organiser allegedly impersonated a Latvian national and used fraudulent documents to secure the contract for the park's privatisation. Reports suggest guests were recruited online through advertisements seeking 200 adults and 100 children aged between five and 15 to act as attendees at a 'rehearsal' for a Disneyland wedding. BFM obtained video footage showing approximately 100 seated guests awaiting the ceremony while a female violin trio performed at dawn on a stage adorned with flowers. The event reportedly cost around £110,000. "Four people were arrested and questioned: the groom, who was believed to be the organiser of the event and is presumed to be British, aged 22; the mother of the child, a 41-year-old Ukrainian woman; and two Latvian nationals aged 55 and 24", according to a statement from the prosecutor's office in the nearby town of Meaux, France. The 55-year-old Latvian man alleges he was hired to impersonate the bride's father for 12,000 euros, only to discover at the last minute she was nine years old, as per local news reports. Disneyland Paris informed French newspaper Le Parisien its team promptly shut down the event and prevented guests from entering the venue. The nature of the wedding remains uncertain, whether it was a publicity stunt or an actual ceremony. A medical examination revealed that the young girl had not been subjected to any violence, stated the prosecutor's office. A police source indicated the groom claims to be the head of a production company and they were filming a video. An updated statement from the prosecutor's office clarified: "So it wasn't a wedding, but a staged wedding filmed with around a hundred extras. They privatised Disneyland Paris, pretending it was a real wedding." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Two suspects have been charged with 'fraud and breach of trust' against Disneyland Paris. One guest at the wedding told Le Parisien: "We all thought we were going to attend a wedding... Everyone was stunned, no one expected it. Disneyland did things very well. "They canceled everything as soon as they realised the bride was a child. We were shocked to see that." Another guest, Yeleen, who attended the ceremony with her daughter, recounted: "I saw a little girl dressed in white. I saw her hair prepared with curls and a lady picking her up in her arms. "At that moment, I was shocked. I realised when I saw the child. It was atrocious."

We still can't believe what has happened. 'But we're glad we now have some sense of closure. I don't know if any of us could have coped with even another day searching for my brother. 'We couldn't eat, we couldn't sleep. It was absolute torture. 'To know Greg has been found is a slight relief. We can now bring him home and give him the send off he deserves.' Greg became separated from pals on the Albufeira strip just hours after arriving for a five-day stag trip. He was set to be a groomsmen for his best mate before tragedy struck. The last sighting of Greg was captured in the Cerro de Aguia area, a quieter residential spot around three miles away from the main strip where Greg and his pals partied. Jillian previously urged groups to "stick together" on trips to popular party resorts such as Albufeira. She said: "I think it just shows in places like Albufeira everyone needs to stick together and look after each other. "His pals are absolutely devastated at what happened." She added: "Before everyone left the hotel that night Greg made sure they all had a business card and a map from the hotel to help them find their way home."
