‘Eurostar of Scotland' launches new London service with 11 stops

A new direct train from London to Scotland is set to launch in the spring of 2026.
Operated by Lumo, the service will stop at 11 stations, with five daily trains running each way.
Departing from London Euston, the train will journey through central Scotland, arriving in Stirling. It will be the first time three of the destinations – Whifflet, Greenfaulds and Larbert – have had a direct service to the capital.
While Avanti West Coast, LNER and TransPennine Express already operate on this line, Lumo will be the only 'open-access' service — meaning it's not subsidised by the government.
And that means competitive prices and better service, Zoe Adjey, senior lecturer at the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality at the University of East London tells Metro.
According to Zoe, tickets will 'certainly be cheaper'.
This will come as good news to seasoned travellers. An advanced single ticket from Euston to Stirling with LNER currently costs a hefty £95.50.
And, with new competition, the overall travelling experience is likely to be improved.
'The service enhancement will significantly improve the passenger experience, especially compared to air travel,' says Zoe.
'Air travel requires an initial transit to one of London's airports, followed by a two-hour wait for the flight, then a two-hour flight time.
'In contrast, rail travel involves just a quick journey to Euston station, followed by a five-hour train journey with WiFi, refreshments, and enhanced onboard services.

'Passengers will get city center to city center connectivity, eliminating lengthy airport transfers and security procedures.
'It's like choosing between Eurostar and flying when traveling to Paris or Brussels,' she adds. 'The train offers greater convenience despite the longer journey time.' More Trending
Zoe says travellers will also get more choice.
'The increased frequency of services will also provide greater scheduling flexibility and reduced waiting times,' she concludes.
Plus, the new train route could see some of the stops become tourist destinations.
'Visitors from London will find it easier easier access to Scotland's historic sites and natural landscapes around Stirling, while Scottish tourists gain improved access to London's attractions,' says Zoe.
Competition for the Eurostar has been hotting up. Richard Branson's Virgin Group announced said there are 'no more major hurdles to overcome' in its £700million rail project to operate cross-channel trains. Meanwhile Italy's national state-owned railway company, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group)said it will launch a new high-speed rail service between London and Paris by 2029.
A popular European train line is operating again, after being closed since August 2023. The direct route takes passengers from Paris Gare de Lyon station in France all the way to Milan in Italy (via Turin), with tickets starting from as little as £25.33 each way (just under €30) if you book in advance, according to Trainline.com.
A brand-new sleeper train is set to connect five European countries in one route for the first time, spanning an impressive 745 miles. Starting in the Polish capital of Warsaw, the new link will run all the way to the Croatian city of Rijeka, known for its glistening beaches, waterfalls, and 13th-century castle.

In fact, it wasn't until they returned from a big six-month trip at the turn of the Covid lockdowns that they realised what they were sitting on. ‌ "We had all this video content when the world shut down, and we had a lot of time on our hands. So we turned to this huge stock of footage," Ryan told the Mirror. "We set ourselves a challenge of posting a video every day for 30 days. Then when some of that did really well, it spurred us on. On a walk in Spain, the videos were doing quite well, and we realised we were going to run out of content soon. We started joking that we'd start going on trips." At first, the couple juggled their desk jobs with travel, booking themselves onto the cheapest flight out after they clocked off on a Friday and returning on Sunday. One guy told us 'do what excites you'. Six years later, we still tell ourselves that. We call it Conrad's message." ‌ The couple also recommends running every day and practicing good communication for travelling couples who want to avoid arguments while on the road. In terms of finding inspiration, they recommend using the adjustable 'For You' feed on TikTok. Train ticket website sues Transport Secretary after making claims about 'secret' £32million agreement involving state-owned firm

Trainline has sued Labour's Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander over allegations she snubbed them by offering a £32million contract elsewhere. State-owned London North Eastern Railway (LNER), which has been run by the Department for Transport (DfT) since 2018, was said to have recently extended a ticketing sales platform contract. But the company did not offer rivals like Trainline the chance to bid for the 10-year-deal, it is claimed. Trainline has alleged the failure to seek alternative bids means due process was ignored - as were the best interests of passengers and the taxpayer. LNER reportedly awarded the contract for the central booking engine that supports its digital ticket sales to Australia's Vix Technology. Trainline also alleges the publication of the award on the Government's website on December 23 was too opaque as it buried the news during Christmas week, limiting the ability of other parties to respond. It comes as Trainline, who would have expected to compete for the work, has its own rival division which provides a similar 'white label' service to train operators. The company is understood to be claiming that a direct award of the contract was not permissible under procurement law because the terms were varied in scope, duration and beneficiaries. Given the terms of the award, the ticketing platform used by LNER, which operates between London Kings Cross and Scotland via Leeds and Newcastle, could be extended across the rail network. However, both LNER and the DfT have denied a new contract exists saying the allegations are 'categorically untrue'. Rail Unions have previously raised concerns about third party ticket operators like Trainline, accusing the company of being engaged in 'relentless profiteering'. Despite the government's plans for simplification through the nationalisation of its railway, it has maintained there would still be a need for 'an innovative and competitive third-party retail market'. Labour also ruled out establishing a national website and app to promote to promote cheaper fares in competition with the firm. But in guidance from January it said a plan to bring together ticket websites of individual operators was now in the pipeline. An LNER spokesman said of Trainline's allegations: 'This is unequivocally untrue. No such contract exists. Trainline is aware this is the case as we explicitly advised them as much earlier this month.' A DfT spokesman added: 'This is completely and categorically untrue – not least because no such contract exists, which Trainline is well aware after being explicitly told as much by LNER earlier this month. 'The Department has been clear we are working industry to simplify ticketing for customers, as part of the biggest overhaul of our railways in a generation.' Trainline has suggested it is challenging the lack of opportunity for alternative providers to bid, regardless of whether a contract has been entered into at this point in time. The company has filed a claim at the Technology and Construction Court.
