Bengals' Orlando Brown throws out his take on Steelers' T.J. Watt

USA Today5 hours ago

The Cincinnati Bengals aren't the only AFC North team embroiled in a major contract standoff with a star pass-rusher right now.
Granted, nothing around the league seems as public and messy as Cincinnati's standstill with Hendrickson, unless one counts the contract standoff with Shemar Stewart, too.
But the Pittsburgh Steelers are another team going through the same thing with edge rusher T.J. Watt.
Ask Bengals offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr., Watt is one of those guys right up there with Hendrickson.
'I gotta put my man T.J. Watt in here,' Brown said on ESPN's NFL Live. 'As everybody knows with T.J., man, he's impossible to keep off the stat-sheet,' Brown said. 'I mean, there's been times I've played him, I thought I did a good job in pass-protection. And he's got two tackles for a loss on me, man.'

Brown also used the platform to talk about Hendrickson's contract saga and its impact on the locker room.
Regardless, Brown is right that Watt deserves to be right up there with the best names in the NFL, hence the contract saga there, too.
Hendrickson slotting right up there numbers-wise and overall, too, explains why the Bengals would like his contract situation resolved sooner rather than later, too.

5 San Francisco 49ers who could win NFL MVP award in 2025

The San Francisco 49ers haven't had an NFL MVP award winner since 1994 when quarterback Steve Young took home the trophy for a second time in three seasons. They got close in 2023 when running back Christian McCaffrey and quarterback Brock Purdy finished No. 3 and No. 4 in the voting, respectively. We were sifting through their chances to snag an MVP winner for the first time in more than 30 years and came up with five players who could bring the award back to the Bay Area: 5. LB Fred Warner It's admittedly hard to fathom a linebacker winning an MVP award. We picked Warner out of respect for his all-around skill set and the fact he was a First-Team All-Pro last year despite playing from Week 4 on with a fractured ankle. If the 49ers have the No. 1 defense and Warner leads the way with a few interceptions, a handful of sacks, and some dominant prime time performances, perhaps an off-ball LB works his way into the MVP conversation. 4. QB Mac Jones Look, at least we're making Jones the No. 4 candidate and not No. 1 like some people did after Sam Darnold signed with the 49ers ahead of the 2023 season. That was actually a thing. While Jones hasn't been particularly good since his rookie season, he's still a quarterback which gives him a major boost in the MVP discussion. If Purdy gets hurt early in the year and Jones steps into head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense, thrives and leads San Francisco to a division title, he would at the very least be in the discussion for the award. 3. DE Nick Bosa Playing a high-profile position where sacks offer a flashy, catch-all stat for voters to cite helps Bosa's case quite a bit over other defensive players. The 49ers would love to get a year from their former Defensive Player of the Year where he leaps into the MVP conversation. If he does, it means he's in the 20-plus sack realm and spearheading a defense that is one of the NFL's most dominant units. 2. RB Christian McCaffrey We don't need to reach very far to make McCaffrey an MVP candidate considering he finished third in MVP voting just two years ago. Despite his recent injury problems, McCaffrey is still the most unique playmaker on the 49ers. Quarterback Brock Purdy may have to rely on McCaffrey a lot as a receiver, putting another season with 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards on the table. If he hits those benchmarks on a high-octane 49ers offense, he'll be back in the MVP mix. 1. QB Brock Purdy The 49ers paid Purdy like a player who can win an MVP, and he played like that in 2023. Last season he took a step back, but if he and the 49ers improve this year, and the 49ers offense gets back to scoring 30 points on almost everyone, he'll be prominent in the MVP discourse.

Since putting together an impressive rookie campaign with the Washington Commanders, Jayden Daniels has become a hot commodity in the NFL. Ahead of his sophomore season, one key member of the organization showed just how much faith he has in the young quarterback. The Commanders drafted Daniels second overall in 2024, and it was a decision that quickly altered the trajectory of the franchise. He quickly took the league by storm, leading Washington all the way to the conference championship as a rookie. Since his impressive debut, the hype for Daniels has gone through the roof. Despite the small sample size, many are already crowning one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Now on a path towards stardom, Commanders owner Josh Harris paid a massive investment in Daniels. He stepped up and bought a rare one-of-one card of Daniels for half a million dollars. Per Fanatics, it is the largest sale of any card of his to date. Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris bought the Jayden Daniels Prizm Black Finite 1/1 for $500,000. This added to his portfolio in the sports world, as he also holds ownership stakes in the Philadelphia 76ers (NBA) and New Jersey Devils (NHL). Seeing that the Commanders were just one win away from being in the Super Bowl last year, purchasing the franchise has served to be a good investment. The front office did its part in trying to prevent him from taking a step back, adding multiple new weapons around him. Based on his recent actions, Harris has all the confidence in Daniels to keep leading the charge for the franchise. For more Washington Commanders and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Early Results Of Eagles' Massive Gamble Looks No Good

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. There's a youth movement in the Philadelphia Eagles' secondary. The front office decided to take a couple of major gambles over the offseason, showing faith in their young core. While it's still early, one of the developing players the Eagles are banking on is reportedly off to a rough start. The veteran safety, Sydney Brown, was recently listed as a "stock down" candidate after spring practices, according to the Philly Voice. "Brown got first-team reps, but he had to split them with rookie Andrew Mukuba," writes Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski. "It was also probably not a great sign for Vic Fangio's trust in Brown when Fangio said that DeJean might play some safety in the base defense." When it comes to the core guys in the secondary, the Eagles have already been relying heavily on Reed Blankenship and Quinyon Mitchell. Throughout the 2024 NFL season, Cooper DeJean established himself as a major player, boosting his responsibilities for his sophomore effort. The Eagles made a major change at the safety position back in March, when they cut ties with the veteran standout, CJ Gardner-Johnson. In a shocking move, the Eagles decided to send Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans, despite investing in a three-year deal with the safety, bringing him back for a second stint with the team. Members of the Eagles' organization claimed that the decision to move off Gardner-Johnson was due to cap purposes. The veteran safety denied that it was the case, leaving the outsiders to interpret the breakup however they would like. Last year, Brown appeared in 11 games for the Eagles. He played just 12 percent of Philadelphia's defensive snaps after seeing the field for 35 percent of the team's snaps in 14 games one year prior. Brown was mostly utilized in a special-teams setting during their long road to Super Bowl LIX. So far, the analysis of Brown's spring isn't promising for the Eagles. Fortunately for them, it's still very early. The Eagles will be back in action for training camp in July, giving Brown a better chance to convince the Eagles that he's the right guy for the job in the defensive backfield. If he can't earn the proper reps during the regular season, the Eagles seem to be open to shifting some players around to make it work out with the current personnel for the time being.
