Packers RB Josh Jacobs rides in fastest seat ahead of XPEL Grand Prix

Josh Jacobs has hit high speeds plenty of times on the gridiron, helping him earn three Pro Bowl nods in his career. But the Green Bay Packers running back traveled at a speed he's never hit on the field before on Sunday.
Jacobs rode in the fastest seat in sports ahead of Sunday's XPEL Grand Prix at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. He joined the likes of Tom Brady, Alex Rodriguez and others to ride in the fastest seat in sports prior to an INDYCAR race this season.
"Man, I'm excited," Jacobs told FOX Sports before getting into the two-seater. "Hopefully, we can top it out.
"It's been a great experience," Jacobs added. "I got to meet a lot of the guys. Scotty [McLaughlin] is a really cool guy. Just talking to him about the ins and outs. A lot goes into this. It's interesting to see firsthand."
Jacobs seemed to play it cool as he rode at high speed ahead of Sunday's race, going with the flow of the car.
As Jacobs looked comfortable in the fastest seat in sports, he's preparing to have a strong second season with the Packers. He rushed for 1,329 yards on 4.4 yards per carry and a league-leading 15 touchdowns in 2024, helping him receive a Pro Bowl nod.

INDYCAR Meyer Shank Racing w/Curb-Agajanian delivered its strongest all-around NTT INDYCAR SERIES performance to date outside of Helio Castroneves' iconic 2021 Indianapolis 500 win with a standout showing Sunday at the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR. Felix Rosenqvist charged from 12th to finish second in the No. 60 SiriusXM Honda, tying MSR's best non-Indy 500 result. Teammate Marcus Armstrong climbed from 15th to fifth in the No. 66 Sirius/XM Root Insurance Honda, marking MSR's first-ever double top-five finish. The result reflects a dramatic step forward for the team, which has already earned 12 top-10 finishes this season, surpassing its previous best of 10 in 2022. A key catalyst? A bold offseason switch in technical alliances from Andretti Global to Chip Ganassi Racing and the addition of Armstrong to the lineup. 'I feel like we've taken it to the next step,' Rosenqvist said. 'I feel like we're unhappy now if we're not in the Fast 12 or even (Firestone) Fast Six. I think we're just expecting a higher level, and it's come down to I feel like we're pretty quick everywhere, both in qualifying and in a race, and it's just about executing strategy.' Rosenqvist has six top-10 finishes this season while Armstrong has five, four of which came in the last five races. Castroneves contributed another with a 10th-place finish in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. 'I feel like the team is really strong from an engineering core,' Armstrong said. 'I also feel like I work well with Felix (Rosenqvist). Felix is a strong driver, really good over one lap, like you can learn from him a lot. Looking at his data is great. And also just talking with him, I feel like it's an easy team environment, which is really helpful.' Dixon Nearly Pulls Off Fuelish Victory Scott Dixon and Chip Ganassi Racing master strategist Mike Hull nearly pull off another fuel-saving masterpiece in Sunday's 55-lap race. Starting 25th in the 27-car field, Dixon capitalized on a first-lap caution, diving into the pits after David Malukas went off track. Six-time series champion Dixon ran a bold, off-sequence strategy, stretching fuel masterfully while still showing strong pace. The gamble didn't quite pay off. With fumes left in the tank, Dixon was forced to pit his No. 9 PNC Bank Chip Ganassi Racing Honda with two laps remaining. That could have been his 21st consecutive season with at least one INDYCAR SERIES win, a record unmatched in the sport. Dixon handed the lead and win to teammate Alex Palou in his No. 10 SOLO Cup Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. 'Pretty wild strategies there just to try and make something happen,' he said. 'The unfortunate part is that the car was super fast. We were just having to save fuel every lap, so that was kind of frustrating. I think we should have been in the top three.' Dixon ultimately crossed the finish line in ninth, marking his third straight race running an alternate strategy. He finished 11th in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on June 1 and fourth in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline on June 15. He found himself just a few laps short of perfection Sunday in Wisconsin. 'Just one of those years, man,' Dixon said. 'We'll keep knocking on the door. We're just going for some race wins. Pretty much out of the championship, so nothing to lose.' Siegel Scores Top 10 After Busy Week After a turbulent week off track, Nolan Siegel delivered a timely performance on it at Road America. Following a public apology, along with one from his Arrow McLaren team, for salty remarks made on the team radio about Scott McLaughlin and Team Penske during the previous week's race at World Wide Technology Raceway, the 19-year-old responded with a career-boosting drive to a season-best eighth place at Road America. 'This is a nice end to this week,' Siegel said. 'Nice to move on from everything from last week and ended on a high. This has been a much-needed weekend. Ultimately, this is something we can build off of. 'I've had a lot of bad weeks where everyone leaves upset, and it's not a good feeling. It's nice to kind of turn that around.' The results marks Siegel's third career top 10 and second on a natural road course. The other came with a ninth-place finish May 4 at Barber Motorsports Park. His career best finish remains seventh in 2023 at WWTR. With momentum finally swinging in his favor and The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the all-new 2026 Passport next on Sunday, July 6, a road-course event that teammate Pato O'Ward won last year, Siegel remains optimistic. 'I've been strong on the road courses this year,' he said. 'Barber, here, Mid-Ohio was a pretty good one for all of us last year. So, we're going to have a strong car, I know that. 'The goal is to just do better every weekend and maybe start a little further up than we did this weekend. I think there's a lot of potential there. I'm excited given how much potential this group seems to have. I think once that starts to come out, the results start to come and just kind of get the ball rolling.' INDY NXT Race Completed Without Push To Pass Caio Collet secured his first victory of the season in Sunday's INDY NXT by Firestone race at Road America. He did so without the aid of Push to Pass, the overtaking assist feature that wasn't available to any of the 19 cars in the field due to a technical problem. INDYCAR is evaluating a car-side processing issue that prevented use of Push to Pass. No competitive advantage was available to any entry as the full field was impacted. Following internal analysis, INDYCAR will work to ensure any necessary remedies are in place before the next race. Odds and Ends The eventual NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion has finished in the top four in seven of the last eight years at Road America. Josef Newgarden finished second in his 2017 championship-winning season and third in 2019. Dixon was also third in his 2018 title-winning campaign and won Race 1 in 2020. Palou won at Road America in his 2021 and 2023 championship-winning seasons and finished fourth last year. Will Power's 19th-place finish in 2022 is the lone exception. Palou, the points leader, won Sunday. Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs led the field to the green flag in the passenger seat of the Fastest Seat in Sports two-seater race car. Jacobs met and chatted before the race with Team Penske driver and avid NFL fan McLaughlin, Roger Penske and Penske Corp. executive Bud Denker. The impressive statistics keep piling up for race winner Palou. This was the 50th top-five finish from his 90 career starts, a strike rate of 56 percent. Honda begins the season 9-for-9, with six wins from Palou and three from Kyle Kirkwood's No. 27 Siemens Honda. The manufacturer's unbeaten streak is 10 straight wins, dating to Colton Herta's victory in the No. 26 Gainbridge Honda in last year's season finale at Nashville Superspeedway. Kyffin Simpson earned his second top-six finish in the last three races by finishing sixth in the No. 8 Ridgeline Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. He finished fifth in Detroit. recommended

Cold Beer From Fan Helps Santino Ferrucci Celebrate Hot Streak

INDYCAR Which was better Sunday at Road America? Santino Ferrucci's drive in the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America Presented by AMR or his catch of a fan's cold beer in Turn 1 after climbing from the car on this excruciatingly hot day? Give him high marks for both. The combination of the two continued what has been an outstanding few weeks for AJ Foyt Racing's veteran driver. This third-place finish earned him a fourth-consecutive top-five finish, pushing him to ninth in the championship standings as the second half of the season begins. The exhausted and likely dehydrated Ferrucci got to Road America's finish line and could do no more. Actually, his No. 14 Sexton Properties/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet could do no more, as well. It was fuel deprived, and it came to a stop in Turn 1 with its fuel cell empty. The always-spunky Ferrucci climbed from the cockpit, slowly removed his helmet and then seemed inspired by the reception of the fans gathered in that part of the 14-turn, 4.014-mile road course. One tossed him a water bottle, although it sailed over his head and landed there in the sand trap. Ferrucci retrieved it and absorbed as much as he could in one long gulp. Then came a better offer from that same infield section – it was a cold can of Miller Lite. Ferrucci didn't miss that delivery. With a pull of the tab, his two-second chug was on, and he capped it with a defiant raising of his beer-holding left hand. Indeed, it tasted great at the conclusion of another productive race. 'And two podiums,' Ferrucci said of his recent run of success in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. 'We're back to where we were at the end of last year. I feel it. 'I've got to get my qualifying performances up, but until then I like padding my points for passing.' Ferrucci finished fifth in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, second in the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear and fifth in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline at World Wide Technology Raceway. He is tied with Colton Herta of Andretti Global w/Curb-Agajanian for ninth in the standings, and they are only six points behind Team Penske's Scott McLaughlin for eighth. To secure this podium finish, Ferrucci had to climb from the 18th starting position and then overcome not only a stall on a pit stop but had to stretch his last supply of fuel 16 laps. Conventional wisdom was that the maximum any driver could manage was 15 laps, and that's how far race winner Alex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing did. So, Ferrucci went a lap farther, and he didn't have the benefit of drafting off a teammate as Palou did with Scott Dixon. Ferrucci admitted it was stressful not knowing if his fuel tank would grant what he asked of it, and he radioed to his crew to lay off any conversation, including a lap countdown. 'I told him, 'Listen, I've got to focus because this is getting stressful,'' the driver said of his strategist. 'He let me drive.' Ferrucci dedicated the podium finish to Marlyne Sexton, the team's longtime friend and supporter who passed away June 11 at age 86. Her memory was celebrated on the sidepod of the team's car. Team president Larry Foyt called honoring Sexton with this performance 'unbelievably special – it's hard not to get emotional.' Said Ferrucci: 'She was running with us today. I'm very proud. Alex Palou wins frantic, fuel-saving IndyCar battle at Road America

It was a hot, chaotic weekend for the NTT IndyCar Series field in a challenging trip to Road America. That did little to stop Alex Palou and the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing team from returning to form. Palou kept his No. 10 Honda clean as drivers around him found trouble and managed fuel in a strategy-filled conclusion to claim Sunday's XPEL Grand Prix. It was the Spaniard's sixth win, bringing the championship dominator back to the front of the field after two atypical results at Detroit and World Wide Technology Raceway. Advertisement 'It was a crazy race for us,' Palou admitted. 'At moments I thought we were losing a ton of positions, then we were making (spots). It was a tough race for everybody. 'Kudos to the team for the amazing strategy. And Honda, man. HRC. Being able to give us the fuel mileage we needed to make it.' As the race unfolded… Kyle Kirkwood, Andretti Global Kyle Kirkwood, Andretti Global Don't let the result fool you: Palou was rarely up front in Sunday's race. He qualified second but was sent outside of the top-five after bold three-wide moves from the drivers around him. When he passed Will Power back on the ensuing restart, Power paid him back in the next corner. Advertisement Hit with that early setback, Palou steadily marched forward. When Power and Kyle Kirkwood got into a pair of intense run-ins, Palou used the occasion to sneak past them. When Josef Newgarden was too late on the brakes and went wide under teammate Scott McLaughlin in turn 5, Palou snuck past him and used the slowdown to catch and pass McLaughlin a few corners later. Timing also played a role. Christian Lundgaard looked poised to take his first win on the year, but a timely caution for a crashed Newgarden with 25 to go came after Lundgaard and others had pitted, allowing Palou and others to stretch fuel into the window needed to make it to the end on one more stop. Even then, Palou didn't hold the front spot. Teammate Scott Dixon took over the lead and paced Palou into the closing laps. But the Kiwi had to pit with 17 to go and needed another caution if he hoped to make it to the end. That caution never flew, forcing Dixon to pit with two to go. From there it was all Palou. The three-time IndyCar champion took the checkered flag 2.1725s clear of Felix Rosenqvist to return to his winning ways. Foyt Racing another feel-good podium. Ferrucci rightfully celebrated with a Miller Lite tossed his way by a fan after he stopped by turn 1, his car out of fuel. Advertisement Kirkwood and Marcus Armstrong capped off the top five, with Kyffin Simpson, David Malukas, Nolan Siegel, Dixon and Rinus VeeKay completing the top-10. It was an action-packed day from the opening corners at America's National Park of Speed. Three cautions flew in the opening 10 laps, including a yellow just two corners into the race when David Malukas was late on the brakes and ran into Christian Lundgaard in a top-five battle on the race start, sending Malukas spinning into the gravel trap. The race got back underway three laps later, with fierce battles for position throughout the field. But the caution flew again for a Robert Shwartzman crash in Canada Corner before the end of the lap. It took until lap 8 for the field to complete a full lap, and the yellow flag was displayed again just two laps later when Sting Ray Robb nearly crashed into a braking Marcus Armstrong and slammed into the concrete barrier on driver's right before sliding into the tire barrier. Conor Daly wound out sliding into the barrier after a similar late braking mistake into turn 5. Power spun in Canada Corner with 28 to go. Newgarden did the same at the exit of the final corner to bring out the final caution on lap 30. Lundgaard wound up going for a spin after catching a bump in a runoff area while battling Colton Herta. Advertisement Given all the incidents, there was a real chance that Dixon would catch the caution he needed in the closing stretch. But in the end, it never came. Instead IndyCar's status quo returned. Palou marched back to victory lane, continued Honda's undefeated streak and stretched the number of races he and Kirkwood have combined to sweep to nine events.
