Cops finalising probe on LGBT event, says IGP

PETALING JAYA : Police are finalising their investigation into a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender programme planned by PSM's youth wing after recording statements from two members yesterday.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the individuals were questioned from 3.10pm to 4.30pm, and that a Huawei mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from one of them.
'A total of 38 questions were posed to them. However, both opted to respond in court,' Berita Harian quoted him as saying.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 298A and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain previously said that the number of reports received on the event had risen from 21 to 188.
Last week, religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar urged PSM to cancel its plans for the workshop, themed 'Pride Care: Queer Stories & Sexual Health Awareness'.
He said the organisation of such a programme, even if held behind closed doors, clearly challenged societal norms and the religious values of the majority.

Create A Special Police Ministry For PDRM - Razarudin Husain, Outgoing IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) – The outgoing 14th Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has proposed that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) be placed under a dedicated ministry to strengthen the operations and management of the 130,000-strong force. He said the proposal had been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Home Ministry for consideration, noting that it is an administrative structure common in other countries such as China, Brazil, Vietnam, South Korea as well as Brunei, to be on par with key sectors such as health and defence. 'I see this need as an important resolution to ensure PDRM continues to be relevant, in line with the evolution of today's globalisation and digital era. 'I am optimistic that this (special ministry) will bring about positive change and great improvement in empowering public service for the common good,' he said when speaking at the Handover of Duties Ceremony of the Inspector-General of Police at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur today. Earlier at the ceremony, Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Mohd Khalid Ismail was appointed as the 15th IGP to replace Razarudin effective today. The ceremony was witnessed by Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and was also attended by Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and senior PDRM officers. In his speech, Razarudin expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support from various parties throughout his tenure as the head of the security forces since June 2023 and throughout his more than 42 years of service in PDRM. The Dengkil-born native also reminded all members to continue upholding integrity and make the value of good governance the core of service delivery. JPJ finalising investigation papers for bus operator responsible for deadly UPSI accident

BUTTERWORTH, June 20 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is finalising the investigation papers for action to be taken in court against the bus company operator involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the investigation is now in the final stages before being handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to decide on the charge recommendation. 'There are two investigation papers that we are preparing (to take action) against the company operator and also the company that leased the bus. 'The investigation papers are still at the JPJ level and we expect to hand them over to the prosecution soon,' he said at a press conference after officiating the Penang-level MyLesen B2 Driving Licence Handover Ceremony here today. Previously, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook had said that the JPJ would open an investigation paper against the bus company involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students due to the company's failure to operate according to the stipulated rules and regulations. Regarding the allegation that the JPJ could not record the bus company's operator's statement because he suffered a heart attack, Aedy Fadly said his side was not informed about the matter. 'He (the bus operator) had a heart attack, it has nothing to do with the JPJ and I have not received any reports saying otherwise. We will still take action; if he goes to the hospital we will wait,' he added. In the incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when the bus they were in overturned in an accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik. The bus carrying 42 university students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when it collided with a Perodua Alza before overturning. — Bernama
