FA Cup winners Crystal Palace face anxious wait to discover Europa League fate

Palace held a meeting with UEFA officials last Tuesday to plead their case to be allowed to play in Europe for the first time.
Oliver Glasner's team clinched a Europa League spot after they stunned Manchester City to win the FA Cup at Wembley last month – the first major trophy in the club's history.
However, talk of a European adventure has proved slightly premature, with Palace required to meet with UEFA's club financial control body (CFCB) to show they do not fall foul of its multi-club ownership rules.
John Textor holds a 43 per cent stake in Palace through his company Eagle Football, while he is also the owner of French club Lyon, who qualified for the Europa League with a sixth-placed Ligue 1 finish.
After Tuesday's meeting, the CFCB is not expected to make a decision until the end of June, PA understands.
No individual is allowed to have a significant say in the running of two clubs competing in the same UEFA competition and the CFCB would have to make a ruling on any potential breach.
PA understands Palace are confident no rules have been breached owing to the fact Textor – through Eagle Football – has only a 25 per cent share of voting rights alongside fellow principal owners Josh Harris, David Blitzer and chairman Steve Parish.
Parish is also responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, which has led to past tension with Textor, who had previously tried to sell his shares and take over Everton.
Given Palace believe they have no influence over Lyon and Eagle Football does not have decision-making powers at the Premier League outfit because of the voting structure, the club are hopeful of being able to compete in Europe.
If Palace fail to convince the CFCB, Lyon would keep their Europa League spot due to a higher league finish.
Meanwhile, Brondby, who Blitzer owns, qualified for the Europa Conference League, which prevents the south London club from dropping into that competition.
Palace announced their retained list on Monday, with long-serving duo Joel Ward and Jeffrey Schlupp set to officially leave on June 30.
Their departures had been announced last month. A number of academy players are also due to depart, including Eberechi Eze's younger brother Chimaechi Eze.

He was the first to commit on the turn for home and launched his attack three wide with no cover and too far out." Before the race Prat was described "as brilliant a turf rider as any of us have ever seen over here" by Team Valor International chief Barry Irwin, who own the 2024 Meydan Dubai Turf hero with Gary Barber. ‌ Facteur Cheval picked up just over £14,000 for connections in a race which had top three prizes of £599,708, £227,362.50 and £113,787. Via the Racing Post, Reynier added: "Flavien thought he was at Santa Anita or Del Mar where they have short straights and the tracks are flat. "And I don't think it was a judicious move to use a jockey who rides in that style. It was just a terrible ride." Born in France, Prat has lived in America since 2015, where he has ridden top horses like Breeders Cup Classic hero Flightline and Hot Rod Charlie, the winner of the Pennsylvania Derby. He took another ride for George Weaver's US stable after partnering Facteur Cheval, when Tough Critic finished 11th of the 23 that set out in the Windsor Castle Stakes won by Eve Johnson Houghton-saddled Havana Hurricane.

Monaco target André Onana but goalkeeper is keen to stay at Manchester United

Monaco have shortlisted André Onana as a potential signing this summer but the goalkeeper is intent on staying at Manchester United and proving his worth to Ruben Amorim next season. The Ligue 1 club are admirers of the 29-year-old and are also thought to be monitoring Chelsea's Djordje Petrovic. Onana, however, is keen to remain at United despite his patchy form at the club. Since joining in July 2023 from Inter, the Cameroonian has been an inconsistent performer, making a number of costly errors. Last season Amorim dropped Onana for a 4-1 defeat by Newcastle on 13 April due to his culpability for both Lyon goals in the 2-2 Europa League quarter-final draw in United's previous match. While the head coach reinstated Onana for the return leg, and he played well in the 5-4 win, Amorim may consider recruiting a new first-choice goalkeeper if a viable deal was possible. 'We are going to make that evaluation for any position in the squad,' Amorim said. 'We need to improve. We cannot change all the players. We need to improve every position on the field. Goalkeeper is the same; we can work with André. André Onana already proved he is a top player with Inter. We have some seasons where we are [all] underperforming.' Financial constrictions may require that Onana, who has three years left on his United contract, departs to generate the funds for a new goalkeeper. Altay Bayindir, Onana's understudy, is expected to leave Old Trafford in the next window.
