Liverpool set to launch bid for £70m Arsenal target

Liverpool are preparing to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi ahead of Arsenal, according to reports. The Premier League champions are in the market for a new central defender as Jarell Quansah is now set to join Bayer Leverkusen in a £30 million deal, while Ibrahima Konate's contract is due to expire in 12 months' time. Arsenal have Guehi on their shortlist for the summer transfer window if they decide to make a move for a new centre-back, while his former club Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle United also remain interested. However, The Telegraph reports that Liverpool are now in the 'best position' to sign Guehi after agreeing to sell Quansah and are expected to make a 'significant offer'. Palace rejected a £70m offer from Spurs for Guehi in the January transfer window, while last summer, Newcastle saw four bids – the highest of which being £65m – turned down by last season's FA Cup winners. However, Palace are now in a weaker negotiating position as Guehi has just one year remaining on his contract, meaning that they risk losing him on a free transfer next year. Palace are already in talks with Sporting CP to sign their 21-year-old centre-back, Ousmane Diomande, as a replacement for Guehi. Speaking about his future before Palace's victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Guehi said: 'I think the most important thing is just always doing the best that I can for this football club. I come in every day and I try to be the same. More Trending 'I try to work hard. And you know, this football club has given me a lot. I'm still under contract at this football club, so my focus is always at this football club. 'So, you know, for me, the most important is just doing the best I can and seeing where the future holds.' Liverpool, meanwhile, are on the verge of finalising their £116m deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen, with the midfielder arriving at the Premier League champions' training ground on Friday to complete his medical. Arne Slot's side have also agreed a £40m deal with Bournemouth to sign left-back Milos Kerkez. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Royal fans all say same thing about Carole Middleton's sweet moment with Charles

On day two of Royal Ascot, Charles and Carole were seen laughing and enjoying the day together in the royal suite, leaving fans delighted to catch a glimpse into their unique bond As Royal Ascot continues, the royal family and their closest inner circles have made appearances at the Berkshire racecourse, marvelling in the spectacle of the horse races and the social event of the season. While many key royal figures have been seen both in the royal procession and the royal suite each day since Ascot began earlier this week, fans were delighted to see Carole Middleton - Princess Kate 's mother - taking part in the day on Wednesday, despite the fact that Kate dropped out from attending in the final hour. ‌ Although Kate wasn't at the event, that didn't stop Carole from mingling with the royal family and having a jolly time at the races, as she was spotted having a laugh with King Charles and giving her son-in-law Prince William a hug. ‌ While Carole and the wider Middleton family are often invited to major royal events, such as King Charles' coronation in 2023, it is rare to see them in a fun social setting having a laugh together. Since Charles and Carole were spotted chatting and laughing in the royal suite, dozens of royal fans have all remarked on their relationship, and how lovely it is that they seem to have such a close bond. One fan wrote on X: "It's lovely to see them together," while another person added: "Love that they have a lovely warm relationship.' A third royal fan commented: 'So nice to see. Good that they all get along so well." Someone else wrote: 'I love that when they're together, they're just in-laws. He's the King, but he's also her daughter's father-in-law and they share grandkids.' ‌ Prince William was also seen during the day giving a hug to his mother-in-law, seemingly confirming that the pair have always shared a close relationship, with William becoming as much part of the Middleton family as Kate has become part of the Royal Family. Carole Middleton still attended the second day of Royal Ascot, despite the fact that her daughter Kate pulled out of the event, less than two hours before she was due to appear in the royal procession alongside Prince William. Kate's sudden absence surprised many people, given the fact that her name had already been printed in the day two programme and shared by the Royal Ascot social media accounts. However, the Palace soon clarified that Kate's non-attendance at the event was the result of a "miscommunication". ‌ A spokesperson for Kensington Palace said: "We notified Ascot that Her Royal Highness would not be attending. Unfortunately an inaccurate version of the carriage list was issued in error after that notification. The correct list was then circulated." The Prince and Princess of Wales are not expected to attend any further days of the festival. It is understood that the reason behind Kate's absence stems from her trying to find the right balance as she fully returns to public-facing engagements, just months after she announced her cancer was in remission.

‘Wait and see,' says Philippine palace to fugitive Harry Roque's ‘come and get me' taunt

MANILA: Malacanang on Friday (June 20) told former Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque (pic) to 'wait and see' when the government will bring him back to the Philippines. This was the response of Palace press officer Claire Castro to Roque's question on why the government allegedly cannot get him out of The Netherlands and back to the country. 'According to the DOJ [Department of Justice], they are simply waiting for a formal notice regarding his asylum. If he is saying, `Come and get me,' then the government's response is: `Wait and see,'' Castro, speaking in mixed Filipino and English, said at a briefing. She also hit out at Roque for calling the DOJ's announcement of his asylum application rejection 'fake news,' warning him not to take the agency's intelligence and assets lightly. 'He should not underestimate the intelligence and assets of the DOJ, and we will not telegraph the government's moves the way he does,' said Castro. Antipolo City 2nd District Rep. Romeo Acop said that choosing not to pursue the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte would convey the wrong message—that justice is selective and only applies to the poor and powerless. Roque's asylum application in The Netherlands was denied, and he has reportedly applied for another one, this time in Germany, according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla. He, however, denied this, saying: 'I am not surprised that the Marcos Jradministration, through the Department of Justice (DOJ), has become a purveyor of fake news. That's strike two for the DOJ Secretary. First, he claimed I supposedly have multiple passports. Now, he's saying my asylum was denied.' - Philippines Daily Inquirer/ANN

Palace to Imee: San Juanico Bridge inspected only during Marcos admin

Malacañang on Friday underscored that it was only during the time of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. that the San Juanico Bridge would undergo rehabilitation. At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked for reaction to the statement of Senator Imee Marcos criticizing the supposed lapses in maintaining the bridge that connects the islands of Samar and Leyte. The senator even said perhaps she should have been the one who ran for President. Castro then said Imee has been a senator, so she should have known the budget of the previous administration for the San Juanico Bridge. ''Lumiliwanag po ba ang ambisyon ni Senator Imee Marcos? Well, anyway, naging senador po si mahal na Senadora Imee Marcos since 2019 at malamang po ay alam naman po niya ang naging budget ng dating administrasyon patungkol po dito sa San Juanico Bridge at apat na taon pong nagkaroon—kung hindi ako nagkakamali, apat na taon since 2018 up to 2022 ang administrasyong Duterte pero hindi nga po nagkaroon ng rehabilitation,'' she said. (Is the ambition of Senator Imee Marcos becoming clear? Anyway, Senator Imee became a senator in 2019 and for sure she knows the budget of the previous administration as regards the San Juanico Bridge and from 2018 to 2022, no rehabilitation was done.) Castro said it was only during the time of the Marcos administration that an inspection was conducted to check the state of the bridge. ''At dapat nga pong magpasalamat po tayo sa panahon po ngayon ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. dahil nang nagkaroon ng inspection, doon lamang po nakita ang lawak na po ng danyos at dapat na kailanganing i-repair sa San Juanico Bridge,'' Castro said. (We should be thankful since it's during the time of President Marcos Jr. that an inspection was done to know the extent of damage to the San Juanico Bridge.) ''Sa panahon lamang po ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ito nagkaroon talaga nang malaliman na pag-i-inspect para po makita na maaaring ito po ay hindi na magandang daanan at dangerous na po sa mga lumalakbay gamit po ang San Juanico Bridge,'' she added. (It's only during the time of President Marcos Jr. that a thorough inspection was made to see if it is still safe for travelers.) The recent assessment raised concerns about San Juanico Bridge's structural integrity. It temporarily prohibited vehicles weighing more than three tons from crossing the 2.16-kilometer bridge. Marcos issued Proclamation No. 920, placing Eastern Visayas under a state of calamity for a year, to facilitate the repairs on the bridge. The President said the state of calamity took effect on June 5 and may be lifted earlier or extended depending on the circumstances.—LDF, GMA Integrated News

Palace braced for Marc Guehi bid from Liverpool after identifying replacement

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi is being eyed by a series of top Premier League clubs but Liverpool are now in the driving seat to land the 24-year-old England international Crystal Palace are expecting Liverpool to make a formal offer for club captain Marc Guehi as talks continue with Sporting CP over a potential deal for his replacement, Ousmane Diomande. Guehi is swiftly approaching the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and the Eagles are ready to cash in on their beloved skipper following last month's historic FA Cup triumph to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2026. Liverpool are not the only side interested in the 24-year-old but Arne Slot's Premier League champions are now emerging as clear favourites to land Guehi as Palace also step up their pursuit of Ivory Coast international Diomande. ‌ The highly-coveted 21-year-old is believed to have a £68million release clause written into his Sporting deal and while Palace are not prepared to put that kind of money on table, they are willing to smash their club-record to land the talented centre-back. ‌ They have already made progress on personal terms, Diomande is open to the move and Palace have good relations with the player's agency ROOF, who also represent left wing-back Tyrick Mitchell. Oliver Glasner has personally approved a swoop for Diomande as there is confidence he has big potential and crucially, there is belief he can play in multiple roles within the Austrian's three-man defensive line. Newcastle, who have long courted Guehi, are also among Diomande's admirers and Ruben Amorim's former starlet has also been linked with Manchester United in the past 12 months. Now Palace are working on an agreement and while club-to-club discussions have now taken place, there is still a notable gap in valuation between the parties at this moment in time. Selling Guehi would undoubtedly bolster the Eagles' spending power, though Liverpool have already intimated they would be prepared to wait 12 months to get their man on a free, if required. ‌ The Three Lions defender also has interest from Arsenal and former club Chelsea but Liverpool are expected to step up their pursuit of the player as Jarrell Quansah is close to joining German club Bayer Leverkusen in a £35m deal. The agreement is now in the final stages and is expected to be worth £30m upfront plus £5m in bonuses. Slot has been keen to bolster his defensive options and Liverpool had also looked at Dean Huijsen before the Spaniard opted to join Real Madrid in a £50m move. Ibrahima Konate is also set to enter the final 12 months of his contract next month and while further discussions over fresh terms are expected to take place, there is a high likelihood he could run down his Anfield deal amid interest from Los Blancos. The Reds are on course to announce the £116.5m British-record signing of Florian Wirtz, who is in the North West for his medical tests, and Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is also poised to follow suit.
