Bernama CEO Receives ‘Women Of The Decade' Honour At WEF ASEAN 2025
KUALA LUMPUR, June 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin was among the recipients of the Women of the Decade award at the Women Economic Forum (WEF) ASEAN 2025.
WEF ASEAN 2025 president Datin Dr Hartini Osman, speaking on the sidelines of the event, said the award honours Nur-ul Afida's leadership and steadfast commitment to the advancement of the media industry.
"On behalf of WEF, we congratulate Bernama CEO Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida. She was conferred the Women of the Decade award in recognition of her potential and the significant achievements she has made in her field of leadership.
'With this award, we hope it will further inspire her to continue elevating the role of women, not only in Malaysia but globally,' she told Bernama at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) today.
Nur-ul Afida was appointed CEO of Bernama on February 27 last year. Before that, in October 2023, she made history as the first woman to be appointed editor-in-chief of the national news agency since its establishment in 1967.
A well-recognised figure in Malaysian journalism, Nur-ul Afida was appointed to the Administrative Council of the Malaysian Press Institute on May 16 last year.
In recognition of her trailblazing leadership and role in inspiring a new generation of women in journalism, she was honoured with the Luminary Media Award by the National Press Club at its Diamond Jubilee Awards ceremony on Sept 27, 2023.
Nur-ul Afida was, however, unable to attend today's award presentation by the Prime Minister's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as she is currently in St. Petersburg, Russia, attending the General Assembly of the Organisation of Asia-Pacific News Agencies.
At the event, Dr Wan Azizah also presented the Women of the Decade award to Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and former Communications and Multimedia Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.

"We realise that financial assistance is very important, especially for schools in rural areas that face a lack of basic facilities and learning materials such as the latest devices, so with additional financial resources, schools can provide a more conducive learning environment. "The industry can also contribute through early career exposure. They can visit schools to give briefings so that students can understand earlier about job opportunities, courses or educational pathways, and the skills needed in the real industry," he told Bernama. Yesterday, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announced the selection of nearly 1,000 schools for the MADANI School Adoption Programme, implemented in collaboration with 117 private companies, aimed at addressing the education gap across the country. The programme, which started in April, is jointly coordinated by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the first phase is expected to be completed by Dec 31, with a programme extension subject to the results of the first phase. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at the programme's launch event yesterday, also encouraged corporate figures and representatives of the sponsoring companies of the MADANI Adopted School Programme to visit the schools to engage with and provide early exposure to students about the importance of education for their future. Dr Anuar said that the involvement of the corporate company not only strengthened the school's resources and facilities but also increased students' motivation, interest, and aspirations towards learning, and helped them plan their future career paths more clearly and competitively.

Malaysia exploring new palm oil markets amidst geopolitical conflicts
THE government is exploring new markets for Malaysia's palm oil in an effort to reduce the nation's reliance on major exporting markets affected by geopolitical conflicts. Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the ongoing Israel-Iran crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict have disrupted export shipments to certain zones. 'Malaysia currently exports goods worth RM186 billion annually to global markets, including palm oil, but part of these markets are now considered high-risk due to armed conflicts. 'As such, we are exploring new markets, namely, countries that have yet to purchase Malaysian palm oil or cooking oil. This is crucial to ensure that our export levels remain stable,' he said, adding that the country is currently trading with nearly 80 nations, with plans to expand its reach even further. Speaking to reporters after attending the Dialogue with KPK programme at the MARA Poly-Tech College, Kota Bharu here today, the minister also urged plantation operators and smallholders to work closely with the government to ensure the resilience of the national commodities sector on the global stage. He noted that planters and operators must work with the government to address challenges at the international level. 'The European market is increasingly emphasising environmental sustainability and biodiversity-friendly practices in palm oil procurement. 'To enter their markets, we must prove that our plantations meet their standards, comply with sustainability principles and preserve biodiversity,' he said. Johari added that providing good service and meeting buyer requirements should be a priority to help turn new buyers into long-term customers.
