Foundation stone for new bus station in Khammam
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday laid a foundation stone for a new Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus station in Madhira.
The bus station will be built at an estimated cost of ₹10 crore. Spread over two acres and 24 guntas, the new facility is set to have 10 platforms, passenger amenities, including waiting halls, and toilets. Efforts will be made to boost multi-modal connectivity with the bus station scheduled to be linked to the railway station.
Several new TGSRTC buses was flagged off one the. Both ministers briefly travelled in one of them . The existing station has been functioning for more than 35 years. This necessitated an upgraded bus station.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Prabhakar said the Congress-led government was committed to strengthening public transport. He underscored that that shortly after assuming office, the Telangana government launched the Mahalakshmi scheme.
He picked holes in the previous government's attitude towards the TGSRTC and stated that they had not acquired new buses or made recruitments more 10 years. He also alleged mismanagement of employee funds had left the corporation financially unstable.
The Khammam district (undivided) has by seven TG SRTC depots. These are in Khammam, Madhira, Sathupalli, Bhadrachalam, Kothagudem, Manuguru, and Yellandu. These operate a combined fleet of 548 buses daily, that include Lahari, Rajadhani, Super Luxury, Deluxe, Mahalakshmi Express, and Pallevelugu services. Apart from these, there are some private hire buses. Together, these buses cover over 2.62 lakh kilometres each day and ferry around 2.1 lakh passengers.
Madhira depot was established in 1987, and currently runs 70 buses with 218 staff. Around 29,430 kilometres are covered daily from this depot catering to the travel needs of over 20,000 passengers.

Uphold TG traditions; Hyderabad gung-ho over Bonalu fest: Mantri
Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Tuesday instructed officials to uphold the rich culture and traditions of Telangana while organising the 'First Bonam' to Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Ammavaru, marking the commencement of the Ashada Masam Bonalu Festival from June 26. The Hyderabad District In charge Minister, participating in a review meeting at the Golconda Fort premises, expressed his desire for Telangana to be renowned worldwide through the Ashada Bonalu festival. The meeting brought together officials from the Police, Revenue, Road and Buildings (R&B), Electricity, Endowments, Medical Health, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Fire, Tourism, and Information departments to discuss arrangements for the Bonalu Jatara at Sri Jagadamba Mahankali Devasthanam. The Minister directed officials to make elaborate arrangements to ensure that devotees face no difficulties during the Bonalu festivities. He stressed that police should continuously monitor the situation to prevent any untoward incidents, while the R&B department should ensure barricades and toilets are readily available for devotees' comfort. The electricity department was tasked with maintaining a continuous power supply without outages, and the revenue department with overseeing all arrangements. Mr Prabhakar emphasised that all departments must work in coordination and service to ensure a peaceful Bonalu celebration. The Minister stated that the festival will commence on June 26 from Golconda, a tradition deeply embedded in Hyderabad for many years, and urged officials to take steps to avoid any inconvenience to pilgrims. He noted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had already allocated Rs 20 crore for the State Festivals. Prominent individuals, he added, would offer silk clothes to famous temples. He concluded by praying for abundant rains, thriving dairy crops, and good business for Telangana, by the grace of the goddess. Mr Prabhakar specifically instructed the GHMC to ensure sufficient sanitation staff, provision of drinking water facilities, continuous power supply, and the installation of additional generators. He also called for the establishment of health camps and ambulance services, alongside SHE teams to monitor and ensure the safety of women without any problems. The fire department was directed to remain alert to prevent fire accidents and keep fire engines ready. Lastly, the Road Transport Corporation (RTC) was asked to arrange special buses from various bus stops in Hyderabad to Golconda, anticipating a higher turnout of devotees due to the free bus services available for women.

Delhi rain: 14 flights diverted at airport, city faces traffic snarls and waterlogging
Flights were hit, several areas were waterlogged and traffic jams ensued — even as Delhi continued to experience relief from heatwave conditions on Tuesday, flyers, commuters, and residents were inconvenienced due to the weather conditions. At the Indira Gandhi International Airport, at least 14 flights were diverted on Tuesday between 1 pm and 5 pm, said sources. The airport, on its official X handle, had warned of a possible impact on flight operations due to the 'inclement weather'. Airlines had also put out statements, advising flyers to reach the airport early. 'Rainy conditions in Delhi have led to blocked roads and slower movement across parts of the city. We know this can be inconvenient, especially when you are heading to the airport. We recommend planning extra time for your commute and checking your flight status through our website or mobile app,' Indigo wrote on X. Several areas of the Capital faced waterlogging. Of the 14 complaints received by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on waterlogging and falling of trees, Karol Bagh zone topped the list with four complaints — one each from areas of Sudarshan Park, Kirti Nagar, and two from Karam Pura. The Public Works Department (PWD) received over 20 complaints concerning waterlogging on many key stretches. The downpour led to knee-deep waterlogging in several areas, like the underpass near Delhi Cantonment, Zakhira Underpass, Pul Prahladpur, ITO, Delhi-Najafgarh Road and Delhi- Rohtak Road, affecting vehicular movement. PWD officials said pumps were deployed to clear out the water, underlining that the operations were time-consuming at Zakhira Underpass and Mahipalpur flyover. Visuals that surfaced on social media captured the situation in the Mahipalpur area, where around four DTC buses were stranded. As powerful winds swept through the city before the rains began, several trees were also uprooted. The MCD received complaints about trees falling in Vasant Kunj and Naraina Village. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leveraged the opportunity to hit out at the BJP-led Delhi government, accusing it of monsoon mismanagement. In a post on X, AAP wrote, 'Every engine of the 4-engine BJP government in Delhi gets jammed in a light rain. There is no arrangement for drainage in the BJP government; the roads are submerged in water. Delhi is stuck in traffic jams, but the propaganda vehicle of the BJP's lies is running at full speed.' Leader of Opposition Atishi slammed Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for not taking action to prevent flooding. Reposting the traffic police's monsoon alert on X, Atishi questioned, 'Where is Delhi's Chief Minister who said that roads will not be flooded during rains?' Among the neighbouring cities, Gurgaon also witnessed waterlogging in several parts. Residents cited incomplete desilting work and maintenance of stormwater drains as reasons for waterlogging.
