Like A Skilled Surgeon: Rajnath Singh Says Indian Forces Brought Pakistan To Its Knees
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday launched another scathing attack against Pakistan, saying that Indian Armed Forces made the Pakistani army beg for a ceasefire during Operation Sindoor. Speaking at an event in Lucknow, Rajnath Singh said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is doing the work of finishing terrorists even across the border. Singh said that while Pakistan tried to hit civilian and religious areas, the Indian Army foiled their attacks.
"As you know, India launched Operation Sindoor against terrorism in the past and successfully struck at many terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and a large number of terrorists were killed. The Indian forces have worked like skilled doctors and surgeons. Just as a skilled surgeon uses his instruments where the root of the disease is present, similarly, the Indian forces have used their weapons on the roots of terrorism with great precision," said Singh.

Calling out Pakistan for its stubbornness, Singh said, "Pakistan started trying to attack Indian soil, and attempts were made to target common citizens. Temples, Gurudwaras and churches were targeted. The action taken by the Indian forces in response to that brought the Pakistani army to its knees. In our retaliatory action, full care was taken to attack only the terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and keep their civilian population away from it."
Speaking at the Silver Jubilee ceremony of KN Singh Memorial Hospital in Lucknow, Singh lauded doctors for their commitment towards the nation. "Friends, you all must have also realised that there are many similarities in the work and commitment of both soldiers and doctors. Both protect the common citizens. One protects health, and the other protects the nation. The discipline and training of both is very strict. Both have to make big decisions in very delicate situations. Both are always ready for any emergency," he said.
He said that the country saw the courage of the doctors during the Covid pandemic. "If the people of this country have recently seen the valour of the Indian forces during Operation Sindoor, then the entire country has seen the courage and commitment of our doctors and surgeons during the Covid pandemic. Like soldiers, our doctors are also known and respected for their duty, their courage and service to the country and society," said Singh.

It is difficult to imagine English losing its status in the near future, going by the people's attitude towards it. The usefulness and popularity of a language don't always depend on government policies. People's relationship with language is a sensitive matter and governments should handle it with care and caution. .Shah's tirade against English should also be seen in context of the efforts of the central government and the BJP to promote Hindi aggressively. This has resulted in apprehensions about domination of Hindi in non-Hindi states. English was the language of power in India during colonial times but after the British left, it serves as a link language, with an equal relationship with all languages of the country. The replacement of English would lead to its place being taken up by Hindi, which comes with political baggage. English is also India's window to the world in every respect, and closing that window would hurt and set the country back. Shah says India cannot be imagined with a foreign language. But the idea of India is not static--it has room for English, which is no longer considered a foreign language.

BJP activates Dalit outreach strategy for 2027 UP polls
With an eye on regaining ground among Dalit voters, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an intensive outreach campaign across Uttar Pradesh targeting the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. The move is part of the party's broader strategy to consolidate its support base ahead of the 2026 panchayat elections and the 2027 state assembly contest. State general secretary (organisation) of the party is reaching out to the party's SC leaders and community members across the state (Sourced) State general secretary (organisation) Dharampal Singh is spearheading the party's outreach strategy, engaging directly with Dalit leaders, office-bearers and workers through a series of district-level dialogues titled 'Anusoochit Jaati Samvad' (Dialogue with SC community). Since May, Singh has travelled to over 10 districts, including Ayodhya, Bulandshahr, Unnao, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, Jhansi, Agra, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur and Kushinagar, holding meetings that are being positioned as more than routine political events. 'All party leaders of the SC cell, office-bearers and grassroots workers are attending these sessions. They are briefed about various schemes and steps taken by the BJP government for the uplift of the Scheduled Caste community,' a senior BJP leader said. Participants are also being trained to mobilise support at the local level and inform community members about government initiatives, he added. The Samajwadi Party and Congress have come under frequent criticism during these meetings. At a gathering in Unnao on May 15, Singh urged participants to recall how Congress had 'conspired to defeat Babasaheb Ambedkar' in parliamentary elections. Dr B R Ambedkar had lost both his Lok Sabha elections, first in 1952 from Bombay North-Central, and again in a 1954 bypoll from Bhandara in Vidarbha. 'Highlight the difference in approach between the BJP and the opposition. While the BJP promotes respect and welfare of Scheduled Castes, the opposition lacks a development agenda and only spreads misinformation,' Singh has said at multiple events. The Scheduled Caste population forms around 21% of Uttar Pradesh's electorate, with Jatavs (11.7%), Pasis (3.3%), Valmiks (3.15 %), Gonds, Dhanuks, Khatiks (1.2%) and others (1.6%). Notably, of U.P's 80 Lok Sabha seats, 17 are reserved for Scheduled Castes. In the 2024 general elections, the BJP's performance saw a decline, winning 33 seats compared to 62 in 2019. Party insiders attribute the fall in numbers to the shift of SC and OBC voters towards the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) alliance led by the Samajwadi Party, which secured 37 seats. Congress won seven seats, while BJP allies Rashtriya Lok Dal and Apna Dal (Soneylal) won two and one seat, respectively. Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) also clinched one seat.

2 held for sheltering Pahalgam attackers
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two men for allegedly harbouring the terrorists who killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam two months ago, the agency said on Sunday, marking the first set of arrests in connection with the terror attack. 'Parvaiz and Bashir had knowingly harboured the three armed terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) at Hill Park before the attack. The two men had provided food, shelter and logistical support to the terrorists who selectively killed the tourists on the basis of their religious identity,' the anti-terror agency said in a statement and added the two have been charged under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act's (UAPA) Section 19 (punishment for harbouring or concealing a terrorist). The agency did not disclose further information about the two men. Authorities detained close to 2,000 people for questioning in the aftermath of the attack. 'The duo has also disclosed the identities of the three armed terrorists involved in the attack, and have also confirmed that they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the proscribed terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT),' the anti-terror agency said in the statement. The agency did not clarify on Sunday if the three terrorists alluded to in its statement were same as the ones identified earlier. NIA, which is formally investigating the case, has questioned hundreds of people over two months, including suspected collaborators, pony operators, vendors and tourism workers. Investigators have also examined videos and photographs taken by families at Baisaran meadow on the day of the attack. HT reported on Sunday that security forces are pursuing two theories about the whereabouts of the terrorists, with officials divided over whether the attackers remain in hiding or have fled to Pakistan. The Resistance Front, a proxy group for the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba organisation, claimed responsibility for the attack. Indian agencies say the group is a front used by Pakistan to avoid international sanctions. As first reported by HT on April 24, intelligence agencies traced the attack's digital communications to safe houses in Muzaffarabad and Karachi, establishing Pakistani involvement in what officials described as similar to the control room-operated 2008 Mumbai attacks. India responded with Operation Sindoor on May 7, bombing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in pre-dawn strikes that killed at least 100 militants. The operation sparked four days of cross-border fighting involving fighter jets, missiles and artillery.
