A day after her breakup, Jade Damarell, a skilled skydiver, 'chose' not to open her parachute 10,000 feet above ground and fell to her death in Caerphilly, South Wales.
According to a Mirror report, Jade's death was initially assumed to be a tragic accident, but the SkyHigh Skydiving, the skydiving company she was associated with, said they suspected her death to have been 'a deliberate act'.
Later, it became known that Jade, 32, had broken up with her boyfriend Ben Goodfellow, 26, the day before her fatal skydive.
Jade had been dating Ben, a fellow skydiving enthusiast, for nearly eight months after her split from her ex-husband. According to MailOnline, they had been living together in a property near the airfield, rented specifically for parachutists.
According to a Mirror report, Jade, a keen skydiver who had jumped around 80 times this year, deliberately failed to open her parachute as she plunged at speeds of more than 120mph.
The fatal skydive was marked 'non-suspicious' after the police discovered a note disclosing her intentions.
Jade's friend also confirmed that the incident 'wasn't a skydiving accident'. Her friend said that they believe Jade intended to take her life.
'She skydived with someone else, broke off and turned onto her back and impacted. She chose not to open her parachute, and she landed on her back,' they said
The friend also shared that the night before Jade's death, Ben had ended their relationship. He reportedly went to work the following day, during which time the tragedy occurred.
Police and emergency services were called to a nearby farm, where she landed, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. One person is believed to have witnessed the horror.
Ben Goodfellow is a Nissan technician and the lead singer and guitarist for the Sunderland-based indie band Post Rome, whose music has been featured on BBC Introducing.
Following the incident, the band cancelled a scheduled performance, citing 'unforeseen circumstances.'
Jade's friend described their bond as extremely close and said Jade was 'completely devastated' by the breakup, despite the fact that it was not the first time the couple had hit a rough patch.
'They were inseparable. They did everything together and didn't really interact much with others. They often went skydiving as a pair,' the friend said, adding that Jade and Ben had been living together since Christmas and had been dating for a few months before that.
'Jade had ended things with Ben on previous occasions, but Saturday was the first time he ended it with her. Ben is a quiet person - he's completely devastated by what's happened,' the friend added.

The family members of a 38-year-old man killed in an anti-Naxal operation in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur earlier this month have claimed that he was not a Maoist. The family and other residents in Irpagutta village say Mahesh Kudiyam used to work as a cook in a government school for more than a year. The police had declared that Kudiyam was a Naxalite with ₹1 lakh bounty. Kudiyam was among the seven alleged Maoists killed by the security forces in Indravati National Park area in Bijapur in an operation in which CPI (Maoist) central committee member (CCM) Sudhakar alias Gautam and Telangana State committee (TSC) member Bhaskar were among the killed. The operation lasted for several days and multiple encounters were reported on June 5, 6 and 7. On June 10, the police issued a press release stating that one of the slain men was identified as Mahesh Kudiyam. They had described him as a party member from the National Park area committee of Maoists who had a reward of ₹1 lakh on his arrest. However, speaking with a Bastar-based YouTube channel, Bastar Talkies, Kudiyam's wife and brothers said the man was not a Maoist. Irma Vela, a local resident, told the channel that Kudiyam was just a cook and a peon in the village government school. According to one of Kudiyam's brothers, the man had gone to graze his cattle on the day of the encounter. The family also shared images of a bank passbook showing purported transactions documenting Kudiyam receiving his remuneration from the government. Kudiyam's wife Sumitra expressed concerns about raising the couple's seven children on her own, with her husband, the sole breadwinner of the family, now dead. Police's response While the police acknowledged that Kudiyam had worked as a government school cook, they maintained that he was a Maoist. An official statement released by Inspector General of Police for Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, reads, 'During inquest proceedings, it was confirmed that Mahesh Kodiyam was a party member of the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation operating in the National Park Area division, and he had clear links with the proscribed group. It has also come to light that Mahesh Kodiyam was working as a cook assistant at the primary school in Irpagutta village. His appointment had been made by the village school management committee, and he was being paid remuneration for this role until March 2025.' It further stated, 'The circumstances under which Mahesh Kodiyam came into contact with senior Maoist leaders such as Central Committee member Gautam and State Committee member Bhaskar are currently under investigation. A thorough, impartial, and professional inquiry is being conducted into all aspects of the case. Police once again urges all individuals directly or indirectly associated with the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation to immediately sever all such ties. Continued association with this extremist outfit poses a serious threat not only to public safety and regional peace but also to the lives and future of those involved.' On Kudiyam's recruitment as a government cook despite his alleged association with a banned outfit, Bastar Collector Sambit Mishra told The Hindu that such appointments are made on ad-hoc basis and the process is decentralized. 'It is the school management committees which hire them and no police verification is done. We have asked the block education officer for a report in this case,' he said.

Army jawan, accomplice arrested for leaking info to ISI
In a major counter-espionage operation, Amritsar Rural Police has arrested an Indian Army jawan and his aide suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrested accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar— presently, serving in the Indian Army and posted in Jammu; and his associate Sahil Masih, alias Shali, a resident of Dhariwal in Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigation revealed that Gurpreet was in direct contact with operatives of the Pakistan ISI and is suspected of sharing sensitive and confidential information via pen drives. The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed, he added. The DGP said that two mobile phones containing virtual numbers, reportedly used to communicate with ISI operatives, have been recovered from the possession of both the accused. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators in this case, he said. Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Maninder Singh said that accused Gurpreet was recruited into the Army in 2016 and systematically exploited his official position to collect, store, and transmit classified military information via pen drives and discs. The espionage network was reportedly facilitated by an acquaintance identified as Arjan, a Dubai-based drug trafficker from Dhariwal, who introduced Gurpreet to ISI operatives five months ago, he said, while adding that since then, Gurpreet has actively engaged in the unauthorised collection and relay of sensitive military data to the ISI using pre-decided drop locations. The SSP said that in lieu of this espionage activity, Gurpreet was receiving monetary compensation through a complex financial network involving intermediary bank accounts of friends, relatives, and foreign associates to evade detection. In an intelligence-led operation, police teams have arrested Gurpreet and his associate Sahil, while they were attempting another handover of sensitive data, he said. The official said that further investigations are in progress to unravel the wider nexus and identify additional conspirators, both domestic and foreign-based. A case has been registered under sections 3, 5, and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Lopoke police station in Amritsar Rural.

NIA chargesheets key aide of BKI terrorist Landa and gangster Batala in Punjab terror conspiracy case
New Delhi [India], June 22 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted Jatinder Singh, a key aide of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Lakhbir Singh also known as Landa and dreaded gangster Pavittar Batala in a Punjab terror conspiracy case. Jatinder Singh alias Joti, hailing from Gurdaspur district of Punjab, was arrested by NIA from Mumbai on December 23, 2024 in the case, said NIA in a statement. NIA found during the investigation that Jatinder was involved in illegal procurement and supply of firearms from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab-based gangsters. He was facilitating the supply of weapons to ground operatives of Batala, a close associate of Designated Individual Terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa. Batala's foreign-based associates were coordinating Jatinder's operations in India. The weapons were being used by Batala's operatives in Punjab to promote BKI's criminal-terror activities. It was further found during NIA investigations that Jatinder used to procure illegal weapons from a known arms supplier, Baljeet Singh alias Rana Bhai, in Madhya Pradesh. Baljeet had already been arrested and chargesheeted by the NIA. The accused were using virtual numbers and encrypted applications to avoid detection by LEAs. NIA is investigating the role of Landa as well as designated terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda and their foreign-based accomplices in the conspiracy. On June 12, NIA searched 15 locations linked with the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror organisation in Punjab and Haryana. The places searched include Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Pathankot, Kapurthala and Rupnagar districts of Punjab and Sirsa in Haryana in connection with the January 2025 grenade attack at a police post in Amritsar district of Punjab, said the NIA in a statement. NIA said a host of incriminating materials, including mobiles and digital devices and documents, were seized during the searches, and are being examined for further clues to the terror syndicate of BKI. As part of its investigation, NIA, which took over the case in April 2025 and re-registered it as RC-09/2025/NIA/DLI, on June 12 searched the premises of accused and suspects linked to Mandeep as well as Sarwan Singh alias Bhola, currently based in USA, and his brother Mandeep Singh alias Makka.
