Selena Gomez Says Comments on Her Weight Make Her a 'Tad Bitter': 'Nobody Cares About These Kinds of Things with Men'
Selena Gomez shared she gets 'a tad bitter' when her weight becomes a topic of conversation, because those comments are always directed at women — and "no one cares about these kinds of things with men."
The Only Murders in the Building star, 32, and her fiancé, producer Benny Blanco, 37, appeared on the March 24 episode of the On Purpose with Jay Shetty Podcast, where Gomez tackled the topic of body image, sharing 'this isn't news to anybody that obviously women have a lot more intense feelings from their appearance.'
She said, 'When I get prepared for an event, 90 percent of the time I'm just like, 'I just hope I can take the picture and sit down.' ' While Gomez said she tries not to look at Internet comments, 'So many different things that come up in my face, that I can't help but see … I fall victim to looking at at things.'

The Emilia Pérez star continued, 'It's the character that gets judged: It's the way I'm not white enough, I'm not Mexican enough … nobody cares about those kind of things with men.'
'My weight's a big one too,' she continued. 'Everyone just has something to say and it's really making me sad and — not even sad 'cause, I'm not a victim, everyone — I just think it's made me a tad bitter and I feel really guilty for saying that but it's true.'
As the "You Said You Were Sorry" singer has shared, the medication she takes for her chronic autoimmune disorder, lupus, can cause her weight to fluctuate. "I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they're what helps me," Gomez has said. 'Not a model, never will be. And I think they're awesome, mind you. I'm just definitely not that.'

She shared that she doesn't have any social media on her phone at the moment, telling Shetty, 'I'm human and sometimes I read things,' she said. 'But I do, most of the time, ignore everything. I don't have anything on my phone at that moment. So, there are ways to combat it.'
'I'm not in, like, 'I hate it.' I understand the power of what social media is,' she said. 'It's just tricky.'
