ONOE a decisive step towards making democracy more effective: Sunil Bansal
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Sunil Bansal on Sunday reiterated the need for a nationwide consensus on the proposed 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE), calling it essential for rapid development of the country.
He said the ONOE concept is a decisive step towards making democracy more effective, cost-efficient and organised. Expressing these views while addressing youths at Rudraksh Convention Centre in Varanasi's Sigra area, the BJP leader asked them to promote the ONOE concept among the people in form of a campaign.
He said the ONOE was in national interest. He further said frequent elections hamper the development of the country. 'In the last 30 years, there has not been a single year without elections,' Bansal added.
'Due to this, the administrative machinery remains busy and it affects the work of good governance,' he said. Bansal emphasised that ONOE is not a new idea. 'From 1952 to 1967, Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections were held simultaneously,' he added.
The BJP leader said frequent elections are biggest obstacle to the goal of a developed India by 2047. On the Pahalgam terror attack, Bansal said India will never spare anyone who teases it. 'The country is watching how our brave Army gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. The entire nation is with the PM and the Indian Army,' he added.
Prof Bihari Lal Sharma, vice chancellor, Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, presided over the event. He said ONOE is necessary for sustainable development and effective governance of the country. Special guest Padma Bhushan Prof Devi Prasad Dwivedi, international athletes Priyanka Singh Patel and Renu Singh also expressed their views on the occasion.
Chief guest Sunil Bansal was welcomed by young entrepreneur Deepesh Vashisht and Dr Yash Pandey. Prof Bihari Lal Sharma was welcomed by national players Rahul Yadav and Rajat Jaiswal. The event was conducted by BJYM state general secretary Devendra Patel and the vote of thanks was given by Kashi region BJP youth wing chief Shailendra Maurya.

Addressing the conference organised by Hindu Munnani here on Sunday, he said each abode of Lord Murugan has a different message of love, knowledge, married life, victory over evil (soorasamharam) and peace. 'It is those in power who should decide as to in which form they want to see the Hindus,' he said. Hindus usually forgive people, who trouble them in a small way or big way. 'However, the Hindus are continuously facing trouble in their way of life. Political leaders, who come to power with the votes of Hindus, speak in derogatory language against the Hindus, as they believe that Hindus would never get united,' he added. 'Our children should be able to use holy ash on their foreheads and wear 'rudraksha mala' to schools. These troubles need such a conference,' he added. Jews, who are only 0.2% of the world population were fighting against four nations for their rights. However, when India fights against cross-border terrorism, it is criticised by political leaders, he said. BJP State president, Nainar Nagendran said that despite all hurdles created against the conduct of the conference it has turned out to be a grand success with lakhs of people turning up. Women were celebrated as mothers. However, a disorder crept into the Hindu society in the form of untouchability and discrimination and it led to the biggest fall of the Hindus. He said that the Hindus should realise that only unity among the Hindus would make the people stronger. The RSS believes that Untouchability was a sin and it should be uprooted to make the Hindus unite. 'It should begin from within,' he added. He also pointed out that the temples in thousands of villages should be opened to all community to offer prayers. Similarly, the cremation yard and waterbodies should be common to all. Hindu Munnani leader Bhaktavachalam said that while in the entire country, the Hindus worshipped God together, and whenever there was some trouble for the temple, they fight unitedly. However, in Tamil Nadu, people offer prayers separately. '(Hindus in) Tamil Nadu have bhakthi, but no shakthi,' he said. 'The objective of this conference is to make people of Tamil Nadu to worship together at least once in a month by reciting Kandha Sashti Kavasam,' he said.

Power Games An NCP minister was livid when he realised that a newly appointed chief officer of a prime municipal council in his constituency had taken charge without the consent of state's Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Department Minister Eknath Shinde. The appointment was through an officer in Shinde's office without informing the former CM. The NCP minister complained to Shinde on the cabinet day after the appointment was cancelled. Now the officer who went ahead without informing Shinde and is holding double charge at present is under radar.
