(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Police are finalising their investigation into a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender programme planned by PSM's youth wing after recording statements from two members yesterday. Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the individuals were questioned from 3.10pm to 4.30pm, and that a Huawei mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from one of them. 'A total of 38 questions were posed to them. However, both opted to respond in court,' Berita Harian quoted him as saying. The investigation is being conducted under Section 298A and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain previously said that the number of reports received on the event had risen from 21 to 188. Last week, religious affairs minister Na'im Mokhtar urged PSM to cancel its plans for the workshop, themed 'Pride Care: Queer Stories & Sexual Health Awareness'. Couple held for series of housebreakings, robberies since January

MELAKA: Police have arrested a couple suspected of involvement in seven housebreakings and robbery cases in Melaka and neighbouring states since January this year. In a separate development, he said a clothing dealer was arrested for allegedly firing a shot with an air pistol at Jalan Johor, Semabok, on June 8. "Following intelligence gathering and public tip-off, the 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Puchong, Selangor, on June 17. Police also seized a black bag, a silver-black air pistol bearing the inscription Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T., a speed loader, and 30 ball-bearing bullets. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until June 23 to assist in the investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code for mischief. The case is still under investigation, and he urged the public not to speculate, as it could interfere with the ongoing probe. – Bernama

Fatal Meru shooting: Cops probing secret society link

KLANG: Police are reviewing several closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings near the scene of yesterday's fatal shooting in Meru as part of their ongoing investigation into the case. Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S Vijaya Rao said while there is CCTV footage from the area, the recordings have so far not been helpful in identifying the suspect. "Some footage has already been reviewed, and other nearby CCTV recordings are still being examined," he said when contacted today. Vijaya said police have recorded several witness statements and will call in more people to assist in the investigation. He said possible secret society involvement is still under investigation. The shooting, which occurred around 3.37pm on Friday, left a 46-year-old man dead in the driver's seat of a four-wheel-drive vehicle outside a motorcycle shop in Lorong Mahang 1, Taman Meru Utama. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
