Strictly Come Dancing star promises new series will be 'bigger than ever'

The glitzy BBC One show has been clouded by many scandals in recent years, with the much-loved programme finding itself at the centre of many internal investigations and public apologies.
However, one star of the show, is certain that times are about to change for the competition, with the professional dancer confirming that the upcoming 2025 series will be "bigger and better than ever."
Gorka Marquez, 34, who joined the cast in 2016 and is currently engaged to his 2017 celebrity partner, former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson, 40, and is adamant the tides are about to change for the show.
In a recent discussion with Hello, Gorka could not hide his excitement as he let slip further details about the new 2025 series.

He told the publication: "I feel like this year will be bigger and better than ever, Strictly is always bigger than ever, every year we make it bigger and better."
The pro further added: "I'm looking forward to it. I don't know much because everything is kept so secret. People think 'No, I don't believe you, you know everything.' I don't read [the rumoured lineup] I just don't read it."

Gorka and Gemma are proud parents to daughter Mia, five and Thiago, who is just age one. With both of them working around the clock juggling hectic careers and two small children, the Strictly star confessed there just isn't any extra time for him to digest any information about the show's suspected line up ahead of time.
He confirmed: "I don't even have time to read a book. I have two children, a new dog, a wife, a lot of work, a golden doodle named Benji and you know what, I don't want to read anything because I like the surprise. So the only time that I read about the cast is when they've been announced."

The busy father-of-two also confessed that he tended to turn to "Google or Wikipedia" for advice and celebrity knowledge once the famous cast had been confirmed.
Gorka recalled his first ever series and how he had struggled with not "knowing anyone" due to his Spanish heritage, with online sites becoming very useful to him in his professional capacity.
The professional dancer appeared to be full of hope for an unforgettable 2025 series and given the scandals surrounding the 2024 shows, who could blame him.
Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One and iPlayer at the end of 2025.

My wedding reception was held upstairs at the Ivy. Back then, there was only one Ivy: our favourite spot in London, where — in the pre-soft-play days, when our disposable income wasn't funnelled directly into Bluey Inc — we'd had our favourite, joyous, boozy dinners. It was the only possible venue. But now, with an Ivy on every high street, it's like announcing we got married at a Zizzi. And here, with slight regret, I present another cautionary tale of overexpansion. I love Bubala. It opened in Spitalfields in 2019, offering a vibrant take on Middle Eastern food that was delicious, quietly vegetarian and deeply hip — not that I'm in any position to judge hipness, but various beard-oil users have assured me that it was. Its firstborn arrived in Soho a few years later, and this sequel proved even better. It was The Godfather Part II, Thor: Ragnarok, Miley Cyrus. Bubala 3 is a 15-minute trek from King's Cross station, located in the sprawling techtropolis, presumably to vary the lunch options for Google and Facebook employees. The walk gave me plenty of time to hype up the food to my husband, J. By the end of my pitch, he was practically jogging there. We were welcomed in by a brilliant Kiwi manager, but it's not quite the restaurant I know — it's cool and airy rather than cosy, all concrete, exposed plaster and towering arched windows. It would be hard to say the place had much personality, as if it's ready to be turned into a Wagamama or Côte at a moment's notice. Inside Bubala REBECCA HOPE You have the option of a £33 per person mezze sharing menu or choosing, as we did, from the twenty or so à la carte dishes. We picked about half of them. The falafels were 10/10. Just the right amount of give on the outside and fluff on the inside, all served on a tahini so white, smooth and creamy it should have an SPF number. Bread and hummus were also spot-on. The laffa, a scorched flatbread threatening to become a naan, tore with a sublime stretchiness and was the perfect mode of transport to shovel in the glossy hummus, pimped up with nutty burnt butter. 'See?' I said to J. But, alas, man cannot live on chickpeas alone. Charred halloumi was squidgy and succulent, the antithesis of the squeaky vulcanised rubber found at every barbecue. In Soho, it comes topped with a phenomenal chamomile honey. Here it's been punished with half a jar of marmalade. Sickly and dissonant, it tasted as though a label had been misread — even Paddington would have scraped off the stuff. The spanakopita looked fantastic — a chimera of the Greek staple with Turkish borek pastry — but was polystyrene dry; the fist of sesame-miso chutney on the side delicious but ultimately unable to perform CPR on its neighbour. Leeks came doused in a Mexican-themed gratinated béchamel of jalapeños and sheep's cheese, with a tangy amba (mango pickle, to save you a google) reminding us we've got one foot in the Middle East. But the leeks were unforgivably tough. The thoughtfully provided utility knife wasn't up to the job — I think I'd have needed a power tool. I will forgive them for calling hash brown cubes 'latkes', but I can't forgive them for the potato being grey. The carrot main was so underflavoured it could have been a side for a Sunday roast — I almost took a Covid test. The button mushrooms on the pickle plate were overly soft, slightly redolent of a Travelodge breakfast. The basbousa dessert, a warm semolina cake with pineapple and coconut, had intricate flavours but was stone cold in the middle. Unforced error after unforced error that made me keep apologising to J. Carrots, feta and apricot Maybe these were all teething problems — the restaurant has only been open a month. ('Ask your server about our daily wine specials!' screamed a box on the menu. I asked a server, who asked another server, who told us there were no wine specials.) Maybe we caught them on an off day. Or maybe this is a moment for Bubala to take a beat, hopefully before branches start to take hold across the country like knotweed. HUGE football star and manager 'to star on the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing'
Football icon Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is reportedly set to appear on the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing. The former Chelsea and Netherlands striker and ex-England coach, 53, is believed to have signed up to the BBC flagship show, according to The Sun. A source told the publication: 'Jimmy has a huge fanbase from his years playing in the Premier League and is a very likeable character. 'Show producers are always keen to book a retired footballer as it gets footie fans tuning into the series and becoming unlikely fans of the show. 'Jimmy has a competitive edge and is going to get his head in the game.' The father-of-four was a professional player with Leeds and Middlebrough for two decades before he retied in 2008. MailOnline has contacted representatives for Strictly Come Dancing for comment. The rumour comes weeks after Strictly bosses announced the professional lineup for this year's show and revealed there will be two brand new dancers joining. Dianne Buswell, who lifted the glitter ball in December with Chris McCausland, will be joining Nadiya Bychkova, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk and Jowita Przystal in returning to the dance floor this September. They will be joined by Johannes Radebe, Aljaž Škorjanec, Nancy Xu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas and Vito Coppola who will all take to the floor once more alongside two new stars, who will be announced closer to the time. Amy Dowden, who pulled out in the opening weeks of last year's show due to a foot injury, will also be back on Strictly for 2025, as will Carlos Gu and Kai Widdrington, who didn't have a celebrity partner last year. Despite rumours that he might be making a return after missing out on last year's series, Giovanni Pernice will not be heading back to the ballroom this time around. As well as the pros taking part in the competition itself, all of them will be taking to the floor each week in group routines. Following speculation surrounding whether she would axed from the long running series due to being in her 40s, Karen spoke about not being 'threatened' by younger competitors. Indeed, she said performing alongside new joiners makes her feel empowered and she is 'inspired' by the younger generation. It was alleged last year that a Strictly 'cull' of the professional dancers would see a change in the lineup, with Gorka Marquez rumoured not to be coming back for the upcoming season The World Latin Champion, who started dancing at the age of 12, landed a new role earlier this year on the judging panel for the Spanish version of Strictly. He's also been up and down the country performing with fellow pro dancer Karen on their Speakeasy tour. Gemma has admitted the time she finds most difficult as a mother is when Gorka is rehearsing for Strictly, saying his intense work schedule means he often isn't at their family home in Manchester. She said: 'He's never here. It's Strictly from July to December. If they get a partner, they're based where their partner is in the week. Obviously London at the weekend.' In recent years, the Strictly pro lineup has seen Italian dancers Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni be axed following complaints about their conduct in the training room. Giovanni faced bullying accusations from former celebrity partner Amanda Abbington while Graziano 'kicked' ex-Love Island star Zara McDermott during rehearsals. There were also reports of a 'mass cull' with producers keen to revamp the Strictly pro cast.
